For all our overseas friends who haven't had Caifan before: 菜饭 Caifan, also known as 'Economic Rice' or 'Mixed Rice', is a common meal to have in hawker centres in Singapore. It allows you to choose a variety of dishes to accompany a plate of plain rice. There is no menu as the dishes change daily, so you simply point at whatever dishes we want when ordering, and the Caifan stall owners aka Uncle or Auntie, will add it onto your plate for you.

Great harmonies by both Ben and Annette!! Ben likes to use a choir style like arrangement in his music which is refreshing in mandopop. Chorus is catchy and easy to sing to, and the last chorus change in lyrics is so clever and maintains user interest in the song from start to end. hope more ppl will listen!

I think this is why they can film in the Esplanade. But that is probably about it. Anyway notice their Ep 1 also says "supported by", but Ep 2 only says "Special thanks to..." I suppose NAC does not want to be too closely associated with the subject matter in Ep 2. 😁
I once ate cai fan for a whole month straight at my workplace cause it had the fastest queue. One day the uncle asked me why I kept coming back to eat the same thing. I told him it was cause I liked their cooking the best. From then on he gave me way more food than my $2.70 was worth 😄 and could even remember my order each time. Uncle u (and your sweet and sour pork) da best.

Oh my word, this is BRILLIANCE!!!! Definitely adding this to my favourite local songs list! Cai fan was something I really missed when I was living overseas and would eat the expensive version at a mall food court to satisfy any unquenchable cravings. This is truly an essence of Singapore to artfully distilled into a great song!
There are things that we can learn from this song to avoid caifan anxiety: 1. Don’t daydream or play with your phone while queuing 2. Start to keep a lookout of the dishes when you are the 3rd person in queue. (2nd will be too late because sometimes the cook will come out to serve as well and you will still be caught off guard) 3.Everyone is equal in the eyes of aunties and uncles. Do not get yourself enchanted and lose track of your order.

It is stressful really with the, 来，要什么。还有？ 还有？ and the ppl behind you giving the noticeable aura telling you to speed up. Speed up. Speed up. Everytime I got my caifan in my hand, I breathe a sign of relief.
The trick at the Cai Fan stall is to order the expensive Fish dish first, this shows the Auntie / Uncle / Ah Boy you are boss. Then you get all the time in the world to choose the other two Veggie dishes.
