The Dark Forest

In the film a section of the Dark Forest search music and the first rendition of Voldemort’s Evil are dialed out as Hagrid discovers the unicorn blood (0:43-1:40). The music continues as written when the scene transitions to follow Harry and Draco through the blue tinted forest and continues throughout the rest of the sequence. Perhaps Voldemort’s Evil was thought to come in too early with the first rendtion, the film makers wanting to save the appearance of the theme for the actual encounter and not giving away the following scene in the music.

Definitely the scariest excursion into the forest in any of the HP movies and probably one of Harry's most dangerous visits, what with Voldemort wandering around.

I couldn’t agree more... I mean you gotta admit there was a lot of crazy things going on in the first film with this scene the way you can see that hooded figure lurking in the darkness, werewolves howling, corpse of a unicorn with its blood. It’s just uhh something that easily can contain that much nightmare fuel.
Year 1 (Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone): Harry encounters Voldemort sucking blood from a dead unicorn and Firenze the Centaur.
Year 2 (Chamber of Secrets): Harry encounters Aragog and his sons & daughters.
Year 3 (Prisoner of Azkaban): Harry encounters the Dementors.
Year 4 (Goblet of Fire): Harry encounters fire breathing dragons.

The track is actually called "The Blue Forest" on John Williams' official score sheets and on it's track listing on the Recording Sessions Album. I wonder if it has anything to do with the colouring and lighting of the scene which as you've said is very blue in its tint, literally making it a "Blue Forest"? :)

I must say that the Forbidden Forest was way spookier in the earlier films, than it ended up becoming throughout into the later films. I honestly think that years 1-4 were just the best imo they just give you that magical feeling, though I think that the scenery was outstandingly perfect in the 1st 2 they were just so colorful... Chris Columbus is the best director for the franchise the way he captured the tone perfectly, I think if he at least did PoA and GoF, like with the dementors in Year 3, the part where Harry gets chased into the Forbidden Forest by Lupin in his werewolf form, and Sirius Black almost getting his soul devoured by the dementors it probably would’ve been like I scene in a horror movie... though I think Alfonso Cuaron and Mike Newell did a decent job with 3 & 4 in their own ways, but starting with Year 5, it’s director David Yates that I don’t really care for what he did to the rest of the franchise.
