Russ parrish is as professional as they come...he hardly ever makes the tiniest mistakes. His technique is bullet proof. Somebody should find that War and Peace album and post that on youtube...he did that with Jeff Pilson after pilson left Dokken. Russ sets the bar high...he is flawless and proficient in alot of styles. Very inspiring to any rock oriented guitar player.
Russ Parish is an awesome player, you can hear him really nail some of eddie's feel which is most important to me, i actually played with the atomic punks at the Key club for a VH contest(i was one of the winners btw ;D) ,they are some of the nicest people i've met, definatley the best van halen cover band out there, period.
@brunompbruno Spanish Fly is in there as well as the intro to Little Guitars. 1:28 - 2:37 is Spanish Fly. 4:44 - 5:00 is part of the intro to Little Guitars.
This guy does a damn good job of playing a multiple compialation of many of Eddie's best solos and tripped out guitar techniques that he has used over a multitude of songs from albums startin with Van Halen 1 and on! You rock--keep up the good work! If any of you were true Van Halen fans you wouldn't have to question anyone about what this guy is playin' at all--I know where he's comin from, but I was around from before VH1 began-- ;0). --Mark V (A real Van Halen fan to the end!)
Ednerd and Guitarwannabee are 2 fine EVH players. Russ is a professional, and the is no point comparing professionals to non-professionals. A place for everything and everything in its place.
I read an interview with Ralph Saenz that EVH requested the Atomic Punks not release a CD (there are at least 20 uncopyrighted songs that Van Halen never released on any albums). There's a song "BULLETHEAD" that the Atomic Punks re-recorded. It almost sounds exactly like the original live recording. Satchboggy used it as a backing track for one of his videos. On another note, there are proshot DLR videos on youtube from 1999 & 2004 that feature Brian Young on guitar. Seach and you will find!
I agree also. Ed's style: tone, feeling, improvisation, and technique combined are one of a kind. His riffs and solos were always tweaked slightly from one show to the next. It's really interesting to listen to all the concert clips from '76 & '77. Great stuff!
Yes! And I'm LOVING their two records. That is what I was talking about: doing something personal, even if it's a parody. And Russ/Satchel totally deserves the fame he's getting in guitar-geeks world :)
The segment at 5:02-5:30 was inspired by Jeff Watson. Brian Young played this entire solo nearly note-for-note in the late '90s through 2001. Russ was the Punks bass player before taking over Brian's position. Brian went on to play with David Lee Roth's band on a few tours.
The guitarist Russ Parrish is a professional musician who isn't obsessed with EVH and never was. Being in a VH tribute band helped pay the bills. From 1993-1994 he was in Rob Halford's band FIGHT. You might be interested in the "War of Words" CD -imagine Judas Priest meets Pantera. Russ was in Punks for five years and has been an instructor at GIT. He and the singer (Ralph) are in an LA based parody band Steel Panther, formerly Danger Kitty, Metal Shop, and Metal Skool.
WOw... that's probably the best cover band i've ever seen... emphasis on SEEN, when i first saw this i thought it was actually them. Eddie doesnt make faces or anything weird when he plays guitar though, he just kinda smiles :D
No live version of Eruption, Spanish Fly, Cathedral, Mean Street, or Little Guitars performed by EVH or anyone else has ever been note for note with the exact timing of the original recordings. In fact, EVH plays spontaneously most of the time - usually his live solos are noticably different than the recorded versions. Unfortuantely, the camcorder microphone was insufficient in reproducing the actual guitar tone.
Admittedly - Ed wasn't in top form during much of the 2007-2008 tour, but he improved dramatically after March/April rehab. Videos from the May 30th show in Chicago are worth checking out - possibly his best night of the tour. I almost gave up on him, but his most recent performances are promising. Maybe they'll record a new album.
You're right. Russ has an original style as documented forever on the 1993Fight "War Of Words" CD. Both Russ and Al Estrada are guitar wizards. Riffage is a rockin' CD. Al has an original style as well, but If I had to choose two guitarists - Al sounds more like a hybrid of George Lynch meets Joe Satriani. Russ is more of Paul Gilbert meets Marty Friedman.
My guess is late 80s/early 90s. Check out videos of Paul Gilbert's band "The Electric Fence." Russ joined Fight in 1992. It's doubtful he had a falling out with the Punks or Moving Pictures, especially since Ralph is the singer in Metal Skool. Supporting a family while traveling to Las Vegas and/or the Midwest every month isn't easy. Russ has a group called "The Thornbirds." Original Projects and/or day jobs might be more lucrative and stable than working in tribute bands.
@schismc Yeah... I like this way, I think the 100% exact reproduction of the studio versions sounds like a "limitade" guitar playing. Create over the original patterns make the guitarrist more 'human', sounds cool too...
when was Russ at GIT? Why did he leave the Punks? Does he have a solo project going or just a falling out with Ralph and the guys? Russ had a Rush tribute a while back that I saw. They were pretty darn good. I wish he'd play more songs in MetalSkool and do less banter, becaue he's a great player. I stopped going to shows, though, because you can only hear so many jokes about getting laid by groupies...talent, on the other hand, never gets old.
The point of cover bands, is they bring great music to people who want to be entertained. Check out The Australian Pink Floyd sometime ; ). This guy is fantastic on guitar. It's all about enjoyment and a great night out. ; )

This is how past legends stay alive. I hope satchel is still slaying that axe.

satchel is just one of the m ost underated guitar players WOW
overrated*
+Rock&Roll 5150 ?
+Rock&Roll 5150 Not overrated at all. Slash is overrated
Svilen Denchev Lmao, my ass. Learn a thing or two about writing music before you go and say something stupid like that.
@@orgasmicdave Slash is overrated and gay
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
Rock on sir!!!
Although an intrepetation still the best eruption cover I heared so far on YT....
Satchel !! killing!!...... now back to my acoustic guitar .
That's just.. beautiful!
Wow, he really has EVH's style down really well. I really like some of the improvisation going on during this solo.
I love how Michael/Ralph looks EXACTLY now as he did then the same xD
I agree eddie does have the perfect balance of speed, technique and melody alll rolled into 1.
Thats why hes the legend he is.
@brunompbruno
Spanish Fly is in there as well as the intro to Little Guitars. 1:28 - 2:37 is Spanish Fly.
4:44 - 5:00 is part of the intro to Little Guitars.
Nice. Sneaking the intro to Mean Street in there was full on. Great sound Russ.
Great playing....!!!
His precision is incredible
great jjob man, played it realllll really clean!
Russ is probably the best VH cover dude on the planet. GIT instructor and one hell of a talent

That's bad ass. I love it when he straightens his wig out...awsome!

so good, this an awesome video. great playing!
satchel can play every single riff from van halen. i think it is his favorite band or at least guitar player
that was fucking amazing. he made it look so effortless.
awesome stuff
yes that's Russ Parrish, from Steel Panther. Also played with Rob Halford's band Fight.
awesome shred!!!
Snif, snif!!!. You make me crying. I love you Eddie, come back soon please!!!.
that’s not eddie you’re watching
Flawless
"Great job" is an understatement.
SENSACIONAL👏👏👏👏👏👏
fuckinnggggg great!!!! saludos desde colombia!!!!!!!!

This is a sweet Eddie impression! That guys wig kicks ass!
DLR saw them play & hired Russ (Wig & All) to tour with him.
why the fuck didn't he tour with him then?
amazing what you can see in a sound check

Does anybody else think that this guy looks EXACTLY like Link from Good Mythical Morning? ( The face of course, not the hair)
EliteWarrior007 yes
Wow ... quite some skill :D awesome
Saw this dude a couple times, blew my fuckin head off. Dude is sick
If you look closely at the bridge pickup during the two-handed licks, you can see tops of magnets like Ed's early '80s Frankenstrat.
Best EVH COVER EVAR!
Russatchel - I love you!

I love when he adjusts his hair, lol those damn day jobs. Awesome playing.
Yes. He's currently in an LA based parody band Steel Panther with the singer (Ralph Saenz).
Yes, the singer is Michael Starr (Ralph Saenz).
@Rocknrollguitars27 It's "Little Guitars (intro)" from Diver Down \m/
:O
This is awesome dudes!!
Russ Parrish has an original style - check out the first Fight CD: "War of Words"
Dunno what people are complaining about - this is incredible.
WOw... that's probably the best cover band i've ever seen... emphasis on SEEN, when i first saw this i thought it was actually them.
Eddie doesnt make faces or anything weird when he plays guitar though, he just kinda smiles :D
@Jimmyboy131
I know that one but I was talking about the part where he's playing an open high E and also doing hammer-ons on the 6th string
@Winged974 No its the Atomic Punks, Micheal's band before Steel Panther.
Fuck yeah steel panther comin thru doing my goal of Spanish fly electric guitar style
Part of 3:20 - 4:40 is from Ed's 1978 live solo in Fresno, CA.
Look at Russ now in a Van Halen cover band when he used to be in "Fight" with the metal god, making some of the best metal of the early 90's!
@012jack012 2:40 - 3:20 is the intro to Mean Street.
WTF GREEEEEEAT SOLO!!!!!
you have to admit this is an aWESOME Eddie cover
Wayne Guitars are awesome.
This video deserves a title slightly more discriptive than "Eruption / Spanish Fly".
impressive grind
Holy Shit! This guy can really play EVH!!!
That was a true cover. He got EVH in his veins.
No live version of Eruption, Spanish Fly, Cathedral, Mean Street, or Little Guitars performed by EVH or anyone else has ever been note for note with the exact timing of the original recordings. Good humor With the wig tip to the fans at 1:25 😎✨
On the other hand it also deserves more views.
Awesome!
Totally fucking AWESOME!!!!
\m/
I remember when Eddie first brought out this style. Sounded so different. Now ten year olds are playing this.
Yes. Interesting why the name "Satchel" was chosen instead of "Briefcase" or "Duffelbag." Maybe a similarity to "Satch" - Joe Satriani?
steel panther woooot, these guys are awesome
satchel!
What a fucking beast.
congrats man. steel panther!
too sick

that guy was fucking awsome
Playing a Wayne charvel guitar and using peavey 5150 amp

that was incredible! he must be eddies long lost twin brother!
Who is this "Russ"? All I see is satchel in some funny overalls :D
XD I think its Satchels long lost, or perhaps lesser known brother. Anyway "Russ" totally shreds!
Read the info, and listen to the singer a the beginning.
@schismc Yeah... I like this way, I think the 100% exact reproduction of the studio versions sounds like a "limitade" guitar playing. Create over the original patterns make the guitarrist more 'human', sounds cool too...
talented and funny as well
fuckin epic. sick solo
wow early Steel Panther :)
didn't know satchel could play Halen stuff like that xD
i wish eddie played like that now
OMG "Yeaaaah!!" 3:10
Yes - Metal Shop, Metal Skool, Steel Panther, or whatever the band is called these days.
when was Russ at GIT? Why did he leave the Punks? Does he have a solo project going or just a falling out with Ralph and the guys?

Fuck the Geography test, I wanna watch this!
How did you do on the test?
God only knows, it was a helluva lot of time ago. :D
Hey, maybe Van Halen inspired you!
