Just finished watching the movie! It has stunning visuals and beautiful music. I really appreciate Kylie's cover of the songs, she has such great talent! Can't believe this is her first dub, I hope she gets casted again for future works. Her career is promising!
“Lend Me Your Voice” was also beautiful and intimate, but …. Kylie’s cover of “Million Miles Away” about memories and loss, made me tear up. My Mom passed away from Alzheimer’s before Christmas. In the theater, when I heard Kylie’s gorgeous voice, she expressed everything I had been feeling. Kylie’s sweet, clear and gentle voice resonates strong notes of Celine Dion. Great great interview. This sublimely beautiful film needs to win some awards.
As strange as what I’m about to say might sound, it is actually very wise that Kylie stopped listening to the Japanese original soundtrack while preparing for the role of Belle. While being true to the original is important (and I think they proved themselves so with how close they followed the music), it wouldn’t be smart for the English actor to copy the Japanese actor so closely that they are exactly the same. Both girls are stunningly beautiful singers, but their styles are different enough that audiences will notice and won’t appreciate if one tries to replace the other. The covers are not meant to replace the original, but to complement them.
I so agree! I would say they should had instructed her NOT to watch the movie at all! She was stuck with the difficult task to live up to Kaho Nakamura. Kylie McNeill is obviously talented and would had performed even better if they did not (or she did not) put her (herself) in such a position. I have not seen the film in English, but people seem to love her performance, so she managed to pull it off. You cannot make a hint at negatively about Kylie without her fans defending her!
The fact that she emotionally invested herself in this and it's her FIRST voice over. Girl....good on you!! I know this isn't the end of you. Great interview! I am invested in seeing and hearing more of Kylie!
1:42 I fully respect and appreciate what Kylie said and DID there!!! That she didn’t want to subconsciously imitate Kaho’s voice but wanted to make the songs her own. I love the uniqueness and genuineness that Kylie gave Belle. English is my mother language so that’s why I love that I can listen to these songs in my own language (as well as watch the Dubbed movie!)
Belle's character designer is Jin Kim who is one of the animators for Walt Disney and has done character designs for movies like Alladin, Hercules, Tarzan, Tangled, Frozen, Moana and the recent Encanto. No wonder I first thought why this Belle looks so much like a Disney Character. Great job Mamoru Hosoda.
Kylie's voice is amazing, she has an angel voice and the lyrics of the dubbed songs are beautiful. I hope to hear it again in another movie or in a concert or wherever, and that more people know the talent of Kylie.
My favorite thing about this movie and the way it was done is that, because of Kylie and Kaho, it really truly genuinely feels like Suzu puts her whole HEART into her singing, and believe me when I say I wasn’t expecting this movie to have such a tight grip on my entire being but this has become my comfort movie despite the sheer raw amount of Pain it makes me feel-
I just saw Belle yesterday for my birthday. I fell in love with the film. And I am so glad I invested a moment of my life to watch it in theaters. Kylie has a great voice performance on top of being a good singer. She has a bright future ahead of her.
Saw the movie yesterday and I've already seen it subbed, but the dubbed was much more amazing for me. The stunning visuals and song translations seemed so beautiful and soulful which along with Kylie's singing I've got to give props to the writers for going the extra mile in translating the songs to english.
She said “I hope people come out of this inspired” dude she inspires me so much like I just giggled and burst into tears when she said that! Thank you!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
Great interview. The Belle dub blew my mind, her voice is so beautiful! Can't wait to hear her in more projects! I'm listening to the Belle soundtrack on repeat!
Kylie’s performance is wonderful, gentle and very touching in its innocence. Kaho’s voice though is incredible, as though it has been digitally altered, almost inhuman. But there’s a video in YT where she sings it impromptu and the voice is still the same, kind of like alien sounding and yet so beautiful.
Movie was beyond amazing. Went to see it twice. Kylie does have a wonderful singing voice. I can relate to the part about losing someone and this movie did cheered me up. Great job to everyone who made this movie possible.
Belle was such incredible flim I can't put it into words but wow. It was moving, emotions all over the place from tugging on heart strings to laughter, etc. I watch it couple of times (dubbed and subbed) already and I can not get enough of it! I'm looking forward down the road to own this masterpiece on streaming or Blu ray.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m in love with the music. The voice of Belle couldn’t have done better in my opinion, and I haven’t even watched the film. Well done Kylie!! Extremely well done!!!
Just got back from seeing it. So beautiful!! I made my friends stay through most of the credits just so I could hear that beautiful music a little longer!!!
I saw the film a few weeks ago & I gotta say that I was beyond impressed. This movie has some of the best music, visuals, and heart that I’ve seen in film in years!
To be honest, a part of me hopes this is the only "Anime" work she does, that way, we we can appreciate the "One Timer", and it makes it more special that way. (Hope that makes sense). I'm looking at anime from the past few years, and sometime it's the same voices, and it was great to get someone we haven't heard, and I'm ready for the next voice that I havent heard.
Official Fact:The character is voiced by Singer Kaho Nakamura in the film's original Japanese and by Kylie McNeill in its English dub, and both Musicians perform the songs that are given the Role,to play Belle in the anime!🌹
What Kylie said was so true. I have definitely lost people in my life, yes, but the loss that most impacted my life wasn't exactly a person. I became very sick and was disabled 8 years ago, and I could really feel Suzu's loss even though our losses were different. Especially when Bell/Belle is singing 'Gales of Song'. The lyrics and the emotions speak to me on such a deep level. And another thing Suzu and I have in common is that our losses both resulted in us losing her ability to sing, though mine is physical and hers is more a psychological block. I wish there was a U I could go to where I could suddenly sing again as well as be, well, me. The me I want to be. Still waiting for my own gales of song to come and guide me through the storm.
Everyone should know that Kylie McNeill was beautiful in this film and hopefully one day she might make something of herself I know you got this Kylie McNeill you got the makings of greatness in you your singing voice is beautiful and your performance as Suzu was brilliant and yes Kylie McNeill is awesome and those that say she ain’t then I guess it’s time to fight some justices especially the stupid leader Justin
I cannot wait get Belle on DVD and see the English language version! I'd love to hear Kylie McNeill's full singing performance and acting as well. Glad to hear she was encouraged to play her own version, rather than attempt an exact match. I hope Kylie and Kaho get to perform together in promoting the film or DVD or at an anime convention. With the make up and hair style, Kylie could probably pull off playing a live action version of Belle. Maybe a live action musical sequel with Kaho Nakamura as Suzu and Kylie McNeill as Belle?! Maybe Suzu trapped in U and Belle trying to help her escape back to the real world or the other way around? Kylie/Belle speaking English in Japan looking for now adult Kaho/Suzu to get back to her world? A Japanese and English film perhaps? OK, enough with my fan fiction ideas already...
I advise to watch both versions of the movie, if you can. I watched the original Japanese version last November on the plane ride thru Japan. Then again the English version when it was released in the US. I have to say, there’s a difference in the nuances of the language in both the acting and the singing performances. They’re both fantastic but the difference is worth a second viewing.
Darn right I got inspired by this movie this movie inspired me to just be myself hence where a funky fella like me can be myself to love the world of music
I watched this right when it came out, so I can't believe I didnt know about this interview until now! Definitely got me because I am an older brother. The story was already good, but the music and vocals have it an extra kick to my heart lol

I have not seen the English dubbed version of Belle, but I have listened to some of English version songs. Kylie McNeill seems to sing a lot different than Kaho Nakamura. I think Kylie sings the opening song "U" very well, but I prefer Kaho's voice over all. It must had been difficult to translate the songs to English and get somewhat of a match. I am not sure if I could handle watching Belle with it looking like a poorly dubbed Bruce Lee or Godzilla movie. Kylie truly has a beautiful voice, but I think Kaho is way superior. It's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison. At times from what I have heard on UA-cam Kylie compares to Tori Amos rather than Kaho Nakamura. Kylie sounds like a singing angel on Earth, but Kaho sounds like an angel singing in Heaven.
I watched it a lot because of how beautiful it is those who say this movie ain’t then I’m gonna fight some justices Let’s fight some justices Belle: DAVID NO DONT DO IT Rahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Justice soldiers: oh crap Rahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh chops heads off Class dismissed
Basically if I was a character in this movie I probably be a bullied kid considering the dragon is relatable to me hard to believe that Jin Kim worked on this film considering he worked on my favorite Disney films like Tarzan hard to believe this film would later influence my Jack Williams virtual reality cinematic universe and my idea of making a modern adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame films I hope to make one day I’ll probably make films inspired by Mamoru Hosoda considering he’s one of my favorite Japanese filmmakers along with Hayao Miyazaki and they’re both imaginatively creative particularly the films that I watch that are relatable to me are Tarzan Brother Bear and Belle considering they’re very creative and imaginative but let’s be honest all hand drawn Disney films and Mamoru Hosoda films are creative
Remind me a story of Beauty and the Beast🌹 expect this is a anime version done by Japanese writers and directors which inspire by the fairy tales of Beauty and the Beast🌹.Although there a few things that I'm disappointed🤔 about this movie because when I first watched the trailer and waiting for months on the story I would have though that Belle/Suzu becoming popular in U with her singing that the Dragon would appear at her concrt to kidnapped her to have to himself, I also though that the identity of the Dragon would be Suzu's father since they're distant after her mother passed away or Suszu's childhood friend Shinobu who always watched over her. If I was the writer of this movie I would have made the story very interesting.
Wow that be a twist heck I’m hoping one day to make a tv show loosely based on the film called James and Suzu and Keis adventures in U which is basically influenced by my childhood shows Babar and Rupert pretty interesting idea of your story though so hopefully animators in the us might make a film like Belle considering the storytelling in this film sparked my imagination and creativity so I would love to see your rewrite of Belle and your right I think the dragon should have been her father or shinobu just depends on who the dragon is in my opinion the dragon can be anyone you know

I just saw this last night with my daughter. We were both in awe. Her voice is absolutely beautiful. My favorite movie of the year so far
I took my niece, grandmothers 👵, and boyfriend. My niece enjoyed the movie 🎥. The music 🎶 was great 👍

Kaho was really good, but Kylie... Was way better! Honestly, kylie is the best singer I have ever heard and I have listened to a lot of singers.
I think If I lost my mom, I would lose my ability to sing.
Watch the movie! Whatch again!
SAME! Doing that next week!
