  • I had 20+ years old family videos recorded on ancient mis-aligned Sony camcorder which I do not own anymore. I adjusted roller guides on another camcorder to get good picture and sound and archive the videos.

Hi there! Out of the blue, a vertical line on the left side of my Sony DSR pd170 screen has shown up with cut in sound every single second

I am unable to help here as I have not worked on this model. I would start with checking connection between screen and pcb. Next I would go through service manual to find out about parts responsible for image and power supply to the screen and if they relate in any way to sound path.

    Thank you!
My video8 device may have the same problem.

Thank you for the video, I have Vido8 deck to alight.
Did you adjusted both IN and OUT rollers to the same height or just IN roller ?
What was you process of adjusting ?
    Thank you

Make the tilt angle of the tape consistent with the video head. Height needs to be different on both sides.

It was hit and miss process. I started with 'in' roller to obtain sound and a picture. I tried to set its position in the middle between points where there was loss of signal. Then I played with the 'out' roller to get best image possible. Then again in roller, out roller until I was happy. I hope it makes sense.

@@zadzwon112 Thank you! Did you screw in tiny retaining screw every time you adjusted the roller? Because I see that in my case rollers spin on their own under the force of tape.

@@InsideOutElectronics I suggest not to touch the retaining screws. It is still possible to make adjustments easily with them in their original position/tension.The only situation to make this screws loose is when you want to remove the guide completely.
