Your “what if” thoughts on HE in V3 are fun to hear. The excitement of autocannon potential & driving up veteran bonus made you both smile. Could smoke become usable? What about scatter dice? Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Clearly speculating on HE - but the reference says "indirectly, which, whilst sacrificing accuracy, whilst ranging in, renders cover obsolete." Not cover saves, "cover". When firing indirect. Taking veteran crews for an FT-17 costs 7 points and helps with that 1-man turret rule and reserve.
HE doesn’t ignore cover. Indirect fire ignores cover. You have to read the description on the new Alpini weapons teams very carefully, but it specifically says that “Howitzers are powerful weapons capable of firing High Explosive rounds either directly through sights, or indirectly, which, whilst sacrificing accuracy whilst ranging in, renders any cover obsolete.” This clearly indicates that cover is only ignored by indirect fire.
Not being an experienced player still trying to figure out the second edition, what I'm hearing is that this is a step in the right direction and hopefully the fourth edition will address the shortcomings of the 3rd? Meanwhile, instead of cavalry, motorcycles, Gurkhas, and a clueless lieutenant I need three or four veteran 155 mm SP guns. Sorry, not trying to be difficult, just witty. And, you know, for the algorithm (whatever that means). I really do enjoy the videos, and I have learned a bit from them. Cheers.
Olympic Ambitions! We can do that!^^ Played a Game of "V2.5" last Week. You hit easier. Soldiers die, but far less. You get pins easier...but Rally is now stronger. I would say this as a Player and GAME MAKER: People do PLAY. V2 somehow made it feel really cool. But you didn't really hit that well, you had to go down alot. I love realism and Complexity, especially in this setting. But I would say this: The Game is now for more Accesible and it plays really smooth. You are not getting Punished as hard as in V2. I would say It will not take away from the Game. Lets Hope V3 will be really good. Alot of people in my Local Playgroup Joining for V3, from 40k and other Systems.
Expecting 'Down' to grant a cover save rather than halving hits. We know that their will be a lot of 'optional' rules, Indirect Fire misses scattering may be included there.
The attacker will still need to calculate their enemies' cover save, for the 'instinctual math required to set expectations', so the responsibility of dice calculations 'split' between attacker and defender that Warlord is trying to sell is a moot point.
Would hate to see the sort of static gun lines at games making BAV3 nothing of the dynamic game it has become. Big guns on the table are "wrong" anyways due to the ranges they possessed... But got to sell models....
The V3 platoon mechanics being much more all or nothing I think mitigates that somewhat - in V2, a majority of lists brought a solitary light howitzer but in V3 you're bringing a whole battery which makes it more of a Brecourt Manor defence or "ZiS-3 guns firing over open sights" assault type of battle

Saying that developers haven't thought the probabilities through is a bit much. I would imagine that was the first step they did.

There is no way I am not taking 8 howitzers.
Auto cannon armed tanks/a-c could be very powerful 🤔

Time to buy some more Zis 3's!
URA! Im already waiting for a M1937 B4 heavy howitzer, it looks amazing!
Where was it revealed HE ignores cover? I Don't remember seeing that.
Its not stated directly, but its implied from the shooting rules
A 10 man squad with an LMG does 13 shots, unless the LMG is shooting at -1 for not using a loader.
@@ME-hm7zm 4 shots for the LMG + 8 rifleshots ( there is the LMG shooter and his loader) makes it 12 shots.

@@frodo34x People are also forgetting that engineer and recce platoons have a lot of potential. Along with the heavy weapons and tank platoons
