The trouble with Disney’s obsession with the Imperial period is that, for all its innumerable flaws, Revenge of The Sith does an incredible job of eliminating loose ends.
The scene where Vader tells Obi-Wan, 'You didn't kill Anakin, I did,' I saw that as a brief moment where Anakin broke through to tell his old master not to regret his past actions & to keep moving forward. That despite everything that happened, in the end it was ultimately Anakin's choice to walk the path he did, & HE is the only one to blame.
I was excited about Kenobi because it was adapting "The Last of the Jedi" book series that started with "The Desperate Mission". Star Wars content doesn't always need to progress the universe or plot forward the way the MCU does, it sometimes just tells stories. In this case it's a story about Kenobi coming to grips with the loss of his people, his best friend, his entire world; the series definitely had some contrivances but overall I thought it was very good in communicating the point and is my favorite piece of Star Wars content since the Clone Wars show. Considering the books kept Star Wars alive for years between movies, there were clearly stories people liked. If they continue adapting them with the care they deserve I think we'll finally have good Star Wars again some day.
I enjoy this series for the what it is. The flashback with Anakin and Obi-wan sparring was a highlight for me. Seeing their ep 2 outfits and lightsabers is a delight. But, they need to hire a better Camera guy the shaky cam is horrible in a lot of shots.
21:15 this is why in prefer the Lego Star Wars version of Rise of Skywalker it made that movie at least bearable for me. Top moment had to be Ben calling out the Knights of Ren for sneaking around, because they were useless in that movie and Anakin and Yoda telling Rey they both hate sand.
The funniest take with the Grand Inquisitor and Reva thing I've seen is the other Inquisitors and the Grand Inquisitor doing an Impractical Jokers skit with Vader on Reva.
Obi Wan was weird to me because it was a collection of things I've seen before, retooled to star Obi Wan. Swimming into the fortress to break in was done in Fallen Order, Vader's mask being damaged and letting out a small glimpse of Anakin was done in Rebels when he fought Ahsoka, etc. I like it, but I couldn't help but think I've seen this stuff before.
This show was the Merriam-Webster definition of mixed bag. The more they try to fill in the gaps with main story characters, the more they risk fracturing or outright shattering Canon. They don't shatter anything here, but they sure do bend the heck out of it.
Glad to see the Talkcast Podshow back after a lengthy one-month absence, and with Kenobi to boot. Though I’m hoping that you and Scott can do an episode on Ms. Marvel once it’s finished, since it’s honestly surprising great imo.
Reva was very confusing but i think what they were going for at the end was she was pissed when she found out there was a kid being protected by Obi-wan. why should this kid be protected and my friends were killed? Maybe that's it? No idea, but thats what i got from it. I only think that because she asked kenobi "where were you when vader was kiling us?"
*Community to Reva:* “I was hoping for Kenobi. Why are you here?” That being said, Reva being like what Vader used to be was fun. She was like a competent Team Rocket. Just wish McGregor got a bit more screen time.
I love these talkcasts. You guys always talk about stuff that I kind of "felt" but couldn't quite articulate. And this time I actually finished the content in question before the related show came out! Usually I wait like 3 weeks to watch movies so I wait until after I've seen it so I can just go through the spoilers parts as well. Regarding this, it really was kind of hard to get past the "literally none of this can matter". It wasn't bad to watch, but it felt so pointless. In a MASSIVE extended universe with borderline endless potential, why would you write a show where you can't be too creative or interesting?
There were a couple of nuggets in this show that were nice, and at least I don't feel robbed of my time for watching it, but this show is probably the last show that I watch just because it's Star Wars. They've burned too much of my trust, and frankly, I don't need it. There is plenty of Star Wars out there. And to be honest, there is a good Kenobi story out there. It's a Legends book called Kenobi about Kenobi adjusting to his new status quo and getting used to not being a big bad jedi while dealing with a relatively minor issue involving tuskens, a corrupt business man, and a town that's stuck between it.

The exchange between Obi Wan and Anakin at the end was easily one of the best things to come from Disney’s Star Wars. Id much rather have a mediocre show/movie with awesome moments than one that was consistently just ok throughout.
I would have agreed... If Obi Wan didn't just leave him there. The logical conclusion was to off Anakin right there because of how dangerous he is, and the emotional solution to just leave him there doesn't function, because both of them end up agreeing that Anakin is dead and only Darth Vader remains. It's a case of the writers desperately wanting a scene to happen despite it being impossible, and pulling through anyway by breaking the story. It's wonderfully acted Ewan and Hayden deserve all the praise for that scene, but I blame the writers for choosing such a lazy route.
IMO: The Tusken Raider arc that Boba Fett had, should have been Kenobi's. This series should have been about him reflecting on raising Anakin and the Clone Wars, while losing faith in the force as he sees how terrible the people of Tattooine have it, and watches the degradation of the Galaxy under the rule of the Empire, while being powerless to do anything about it. Then as he's wondering into the desert, to bury the pair of lightsabers he's been hiding, a sand storm comes and he gets lost and blacks out, and wakes up basically where Boba Fett wakes up, tied up in a Tusken camp. Have him go through the whole arc Boba did, but have parts where Obi Wan is becoming truely horrified about Anakin, and how he's fallen, after meeting, humanizing and becoming a part of the Tusken tribe. This would give more weight to Obi Wan ttuely believe Anakan is gone, and only Vadar remains.
I will say, as much as I liked physically seeing Liam Neeson again, that busts actual canon wide open. Quigon can't show up physically, he didn't finish learning how to when he was alive. He could send his voice to people, but that's about it, barring his appearance on the planet of Mortis, but that place was all sorts of crazy in the first place. So then that means he finished his training AFTER DEATH. That, combined with TROS, tells me one thing: Jedis shouldn't stay alive, that just makes them weaker.
@@Max-zg6ld You're right, Obi-Wan did say that, but he also didn't reappear right there and tear Vader a new one. Obiwan and Anakin is what people wanted and so of course the show runners shoved baby Leia and Luke into this as well as a new character that no one cared for. Why are show runners so allergic to just giving the people what they want?
Because you can't make a whole 6-episode show out of just Anakin and Obi Wan, unfortunately. There just isn't enough plot between those two characters alone to fill out like 5-6 hours of storytelling. At the very least you need some kind of B-plot if only to justify the runtime.
