By Allah's grace, I becam a Muslim almost 16 years ago, as a 12er Shia Muslim practicing the Jafari Madhab. However, I have great respect for my Sunni Muslim brothers and sisters. I have great respect for Shaykh Hamza Yusuf and will listen to his tapes to get the orthodox Sunni view. We can agree to disagree on our differences. True Sunni Muslims love Ahlul Bayt.

As-Salam Alaikum sister Aicha Belcaid. That is the saying of one Ayatullah. There have been and are multiple Ayatullahs, That is not what my Marja teaches. Intention is the key. There is so much misinformation about 12er Shia Muslims and what we believe that it becomes difficult to address everything. It has been 7 years or so since I recorded this video, and I have learned more about Islam and Muslims since then. I like true Sunni Muslims even more than I did back them. Yet, I am even more convinced now that I ought follow the Prophet and his family and the Jafari Madhab rather than the 4 Madhabs. Did you know both Abu Hanifa and Ibn Malik were students of the 6th Imam Jaffar As-Sadiq, the great grandson of the 3rd Imam Hussein? Yet, the Shafie Madhab is the closest to the Jafari Madhab, with the Maliki Madhab as a close 2nd. In classic times, Abu Hanifa and Hanafi sheikhs used to study with Mutazilite, Zaidi Shia, and 12er Shia Sheikhs? The Gap between Sunnis and Shias has widened since then, which is a shame, because we are all true Muslims!
By the way, the first three years I investigated Islam and Muslims, I read Sunni Muslim authors, including Sufis, and the first Quran translation I ever read was a Sunni translation. I studied the 4 Madhabs and still have those books. I have studied Muslim History from several sides (more than just Sunni and 12er Shia groups). Why were 11 of 12 Shia Muslim Imams, all Sayyeds, murdered, and 10 of them by order of the Caliphs?
Certainly I don't blame the Sunni Imams who have madhabs named for them for these murders, but fabrication of hadith by the Ummayad Dynasty of Caliphs is well known to both Sunni and Shia scholars.
Sister, as for my use of the term "true Sunnis", I use the term because classical Sunni Muslim scholars like Ibn Kathir were Ummayad sympathizers despite living in the the time of the Abbasid Caliphate, write against the 12 Imams. Ibn Kathir wrote that Hussein Ibn Ali ibn Muhammad, our 3rd Imam, the 2nd son of the murdered 4th Caliph Ali Ibn Talib, our 1st Imam, was rightly, yes rightly, beheaded by his father's weapon by Caliph Yazid ibn Muhawiya Ibn Abu Sufyan's soldiers! That is a very well known passage from Ibn Kathir. He is not a true Sunni Muslim like you are, sister, since he believed that Imam Hussein deserved to be beheaded. Wahabis like the Saudis are called Sunnis when they are make fiqh differently than Sunnis do. I do like Imam Ahmed Ibn Hanbal himself, but many of the Hanbali scholars who followed him caused trouble even before Wahabism began. I don't care if the Saudis are considered allies of the USA, I say that is only because of oil money and no other reason. The Saudis, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, the Taliban, the modern Boca Haram ... all these groups are NOT true Sunnis and all are trying to exterminate Shia Muslims.
As for Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, I have nothing but respect for him. I have watched many of his videos and bought one of his books. I agree with him that the Sunni-Shia controversy is an old one, and while my investigation of Islam and Muslim groups led me to become a Muslim as a 12er Shia Muslim, I believe true Sunnis are my brothers and sisters. But still, I need to come out on one side, and 12er Shia Muslim Aqeedah and Fiqh make the most sense for me.
I believe Allah (SWT) is perfect. The 2nd Root of Religion for 12er Shia Muslims is Divine Justice. Therefore, I believe Allah is always just and never unjust because he is perfect. Even good Sunni scholars, who believe Allah is perfect, will say Allah doesn't have to always be just, but that is like saying He is not always perfect. On spiritual and philosophical grounds I cannot accept their view. Allah provides infallible scriptures, correct? For this reason, I believe Prophets and Messengers are protected by Allah and that protection allows them to be pure and infallible, so we can follow their example and their teaching and the scripture we get from them. If someone claims to be a messenger, but might not be pure and might not be infallible, how can I even trust he will give me Allah's message exactly as it was meant to be given? How can I follow their example if they might sin because they are not pure? They are Prophets and Messengers empowered by Allah, not by themselves, so they would not be pure and infallible with Allah's protection. Now, who rightly interprets Allah's scripture when the Messenger is no longer with us? Those who know. These people, can they make sins and teach heresy? How can I trust them if they are not pure and infallible? Dear Sister, if you can prove to me using Sunni books that all Sahaba were pure and infallible, and that the compilers or the 6 or 7 Sahih hadith books (7 if we include the Muwatta of Ibn Malik) were all pure and infallible, then I will be a Sunni Muslim and follow the Shafie Madhab. I can tell you there will be a problem immediately, because the 4 Imams for whom the Sunni Madhabs are named wrote terrible things about each other. Further, the 6 or 7 Sahih ahadith books have hadith that directly contradict each other. That is why I personally had to become a 12er Shia Muslim. Our 4 classic books of hadith are not considered to all be Sahih. The hadith are of different grades. Later books are compilations of the hadith considered to be authentic. However, the ONLY Shia Muslim hadith book that is considered 100% reliable is the As-Sahifa As-Sajjadiyyah of our 4th Imam Ali Zainul Abideen, the only male survivor of the battle of Karbala, who was later murdered by a Caliph. His prayer book and his Treatise on Rights, which are also used by some Sunnis who are Sufis, is considered fully authentic. The Nahjul Balagha of Imam Ali the 4th Calipj is a close 2nd, though a few things in that book are considered suspect. Those two books are followed by several other later compilations.
I don't expect you to become a 12er Shia Muslim just because of what I wrote. I was raised a Christian and attended a Bible School, and did my own research after that. Even after I read the Quran and was pleasantly surprised, and then read Al-Ghazali and Rumi and Sunni books on hadith science and Aqeedah, then looked at what the 12er Shia Muslims had to say, it took me 6 months to actually give Shahada after I was convinced Islam was true. I know Christians who took longer, and some who try to be both Christian and Muslim, or stay Christian and study Muslim books also. But sister, you are already a Muslim, so you don't have to convert/revert to anything. If you do come to a place where you want to follow the two weighty things left by the Prophet: The Quran and his family, as a hadith in Sahih Muslim states, then you should become a 12er Shia Muslim. But sister, you are already a Muslim, and I believe good Sunni Muslims are Moomineen and Moomineena.
12 Patriarchs of Jacob/Israel. 12 Princes of Ishmael. 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ. 12 Imams of Muhammad. Blessings of Allah and Peace be upon all of them!
      Masalama dear sister.

اAHLUL-BAYT IN THE LIGHT OF QURAN
Prophet Muhammad (SW) showed his Ahlul-Bayat on the following two occasions:-
    (a) When the purification clause "Verily Allah intends to keep off from you uncleanness, O you
Ahlul Bayt and keep you pure at the apex of purity" (انَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُذۡهِبَ عَنڪُمُ ٱلرِّجۡسَ أَهۡلَ ٱلۡبَيۡتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمۡ تَطۡهِيرََ )" of verse 33 of Surah Ahzaab was revealed. The occasion, time and place of revelation of subject part of Verse 33 of Surah Ahzaab is narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) as told to him by Hazrat Fatima (SA). One day when Lady Fatima (SA) was in the house of Hazrat Ummay Salma (RA) the wife of the prophet, the Prophet (SW) told her that He was feeling weakness, therefore, she covered Him with a yamni shawl. Soon after Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) entered the house and joined the Prophet. Subsequently Imam Hassan (AS), Lady Fatima (SA) and Hazrat Ali (AS) also joined the prophet under the shawl. Later, on Hazrat Ummay Salma's request to join the group also, however, the Prophet told her to remain at her place and that she was at peace. At this juncture Hazrat Jibrail (AS) revealed subject part of Verse 33 (Refer to any Sihah-e-Sitta Book). The purification clause of Verse 33 of Surah Ahzaab "Verily Allah intends to keep off from you uncleanness, O you Ahlul-Bayt and keep you pure at the apex of purity" was placed at subject place in Quran as different parts of the revelations were placed at appropriate place in Quran under Prophet Muhammad (SW) instructions e.g. the first verse “ اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ”
was placed in Surah Al-Alaq the 96th Surah and on second revelation the verses were placed in 68th Surah Al-Qalam of Quran. It should be noted that the arrangement of Quran is not in the order of the verses as they were revealed. Moreover, the purification clause starts with the word إِنَّمَا that is encircling word (kalmay hasar-حصر) used in Arabic language to restrict or encircle the implication of the text meaning to that matter only which follows إِنَّمَا. Therefore, what is stated before the wordإِنَّمَا is excluded and what is stated after إِنَّمَا doesn’t apply to the text about wives of the prophet before the word إِنَّمَا in subject verse. As such, the evidence shows that only those under the blanket are included in Ahlul-Bayat and not the wives of the Prophet as advocated by many scholars.
    (b) When the deliberations on the birth of Hazrat Eysa (AS) with the Christians of Najran in 9th Hijra did not succeed, Allah commanded in Verse 61 of Surah Aal-e-Imran asking each party to bring their sons, women and men (Nafoos) for invoking Allah's CURSE on the liars (mobyhlah مباہلہ). At that time among others the Prophet had 9 wives and His son Ibrahim was alive but the Prophet took Hazrat Ali (AS), Lady Fatima (SA), Imam Hassan and Hussain (AS) ONLY for mobyhlah. Seeing subject personalities the Christians chief priest Abdul Masih refused to do mobyhlah and accepted to pay nominal tax (Jazia). Allah declared subject incidence as account of truth (Surah Aal-Imran Verse-62). Mobahilah was the contest of truth (sadaqat-صداقت) and Prophet took only those personalities who were considered highly truthful ]sadeeq ((صدیق superlative degree of sadiqصادق) )] in this contest of truth. The Prophet said that my Ahlul-Bayt are like the boat of Hazrat Nuh (AS), who so ever came on board would gain salvation and one who remains astray will drown and perish. He also said, “I am leaving two weighty things: Quran and my itrat-Ahlul Bayt, they will remain enjoined till they meet me at the pool of Kawthar on the Day of Judgment. One who remains associated with them surely will not go astray and one who remains away will perish”. Moreover, He said, Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain (Sihah-e- Sitta).

I am beginning to like this sheikh Hamza a lot. Because he is into Islam deeply and not just superficially and I respect that. He is amazing because he is an Irish American whose family goes all they way down to Revolutionary wars against the British.
Somebody up there must have liked him a lot to have guided him and of course he has good genes/blood too.
I wonder if Sheikh knows about the deceptions of these so-called Ahle Kitab ppl who had moved to Arabia just to kill the Seal of the Prophets (they knew of his coming from their books) and destroy his religion (this is why they joined the idolatries and atheists/polytheists and provoked them against the monotheist religion (doesn't make sense but...) )
and when they couldn't do it (Because of Imam Ali and others with true faith) they came from within (Munafigh) then after Prophet's death tried to destroy the Prophet's family by attacking His house (with fire) and killing his expecting daughter and her son in process then they tried to distort Quran but when they couldn't do it they shuffled the verses out of order of revelation.... Anyway All divisions in all religions come from that 1 single and evil source.(They destroyed Christianity and invented Catholicism. They divided Islam into 4 branches and then more, up to 72) Why no Moslem today ask why there are so many sects in Islam while the Prophet SA brought 1 religion and 1 book and 1 faith? Also why no one asks why Prophet Muhammad SA is the Last of the Prophets while we now live in this so-called "modern" world and need a lot of guidance?! The prophet sawa predicted this and said his Umma with do exactly as bani israil after him and Islam will be divided into 72 sects, all will be in Fire except 1!
Now who do you follow? Ahlul Bayt the source of Prophet or the agents of yahudi leaders? The choice is clear to me. This is why I and ppl like me don't need another prophet to guide us. The prophet's successor is with us! We may not be able to see him but he sees us and God-willing some lucky day soon he shall re-appear!

(Allah wishes only to remove Ar-Rijs from you, O members of the family, and to purify you with a thorough purification.) This is a clear statement that the wives of the Prophet are included among the members of his family (Ahl Al-Bayt) here, because they are the reason why this Ayah was revealed.
The context in which this verse occurs makes it manifest that the word ahl al-bait (people of the house) here implies the wives of the Holy Prophet (upon whom be Allah's peace), because the address begins with: "O wives of the Prophet," and they are the addressees in the whole discourse preceding it as well as following it. Moreover, the word ahl al-bait in Arabic is used precisely in the sense in which the word "household" is used in English, which includes both a man's wife and children. No one would exclude the wife from the "household." The Qur'an itself has used this word at two other places besides this, and at both the wife is included in its sense, rather as the most important member of the family. In Surah Hud, when the angels give the Prophet Abraham the good news of the birth of a son, his wife exclaims: "Shall I bear a child now when I have grown too old, and this husband of mine has also become old?" The angels say: What! Are you surprised at Allah's decree, O people of Abraham's household? Allah's mercy and blessings are upon you."
In Surah Al-Qasas, when the Prophet Moses reaches the Pharaoh's house as a suckling, and the Pharaoh's wife is in search of a suitable nurse for the child, the Prophet Moses' sister says, "Shall I tell you of a household whose people will bring him up for you and look after him well?" Thus, the Arabic idiom and the usage of the Qur'an and the context of this verse, 'all point clearly to the fact that the Holy Prophet's wives are Ahle Bayt.
That is why according to lbn 'Abbas and 'Urwah bin Zubair and `Ikrimah, the word ahl al-bait in this verse (Surah Al Ahzaab verses 32 and 33) implies the wives of the Holy Prophet. [Tafsir Ibn Abi hatim]
The Prophet is closer to the believers than their selves, and his wives are (as) their mothers. [Quran 33:6]

The fact is that I never generalized. Rather, I referred in my original comment to my own sunni frame of reference, as opposed to yourself.
As an attendee I clarify my previous statement as it is clear you have no understanding for it: Sunnism incorporates ahl-bayt, you simply have to understand it before preaching it.

Shaykh you are very close. You're mentioning all the ayats in Quran about Ahlulbayt. Have you ever tried to connect these facts with the Shias belief according to the hadith of Kisa' that these ayats specifically in the aya tat'heer that Allah only aims those under Prophet (saw)'s cloak who are namely Fatima (as), Imam Ali (as) and Imam Hassan and Hussain (as) and 9 of Imam Hussain's (as) descendants last of them being Imam Mahdi? You are denying infallibility of Shia Imams as "gholou" while the aya tat'heer you've mentioned is the proof of their infallibility.

Loving of ahlubaith is a good thing. But among ahlubaith there is a section who exploit their ahlubaith status. Muslim need to cautious regarding that. Mir jafer who betrayed India to british was from ahlubaith. Kerala bidath activity started with sanaulla thangal. Hashemetes who sided with British was reason of collapse of khilafat and creation of Israel. Biggest rape scandal ajmer rape case was conducted by khadimsof ajmer sheriff. It is time to draw what is privillage of ahlubaith and their restriction. Or else entire Muslim community going to pay hefty price.

read the history of Islam, and what has Ahly Bayt suffered for last 1400 years. reading would be suffice to you, as a proof. I have so much evidence in my mosques, where I go, I hear and watch what people say, and Imams, go to islamic sunni forums, and except of praising Yazid and Muawiya, I dont see any respect and love for Ahly Bayt. What you and your peers do, I dont care. . Just read comments here on youtube on videos of Habib Ali Jifri, Ninowy, Yakoubi, and you will see what I mean.

Judging Islam by the bad muslims is the same as judging Shia by the practices of some. For once, discuss the Nahjul al Balagha Hamza. Or are you able to read it? I would love to appreciate your work but you are prosletyzing up the wrong family tree. There is a very important event that you have never addressed and probably are unable to. If it is the case that the Shia are incorrect then explain why it is that the one person that spent his ENTIRE life in the presence of the prophet (Ali ibn Abi Taleb, peace upon the Commander of the Faithful) is not mentioned in Bohkhari? Or Fatima! Peace be upon one of the only four women of Paradise (not Aisha, pbuh who fought the Ahl Bayt and the hounds howled at her in Hawab and she knew it!). Yet you do not know. You indulge in a serious amount of superstition by saying you know these sillly things. Stop already.
