Look, I live on the heart of wales line, and I know for sure that Shrewsbury is one of my favourite stations in the United Kingdom. Thank you for putting effort into videos like this :D
The train at platform 4b is the 11:30 Transport for Wales service to Holyhead. Calling at: Gobowen Chirck Ruabon Wrexham General Chester Flint Prestatyn Rhyl Colwyn Bay Llandudno Junction Bangor Bodorgan (x) Ty Croes (x) Rhosneigr (x) and Holyhead. Platform 4b for the 11:30 Transport for Wales service to Holyhead.
0:53 In all honesty, a better idea is not to tell people where they are allowed to smoke, to perhaps deter people from bothering with the habit at all. If it was up to me, the announcement would be "Please do not smoke while you are in the station premises".
I find it really odd how deep Ruth’s voice is now compared to how it used to be; especially in comparison with Anne who sounds no different to how she was in 2002 😂😂
I love it when she's going down when saying Transport for Wales. She says it like this TRANSPORT FOR WAles service to... She also sounds like my mums friend! She's says it in a way where she sounds like she's in a rush! Is that just me?
Graphics never get old. "4b" sounds like Corby. They pieced all announcements together from clips so it isn't too smooth. Holyhead should be HOLYhead! They don't bother to say the number of cars. Silly and Funny Welsh names. Where's the Welsh itself? It's good you caught the "Phwlheli and Aberwystwyth" announcement. Replacement bus service to Machyntlleth
Glad you like the graphics! Shrewsbury is English announcements only as the town isn't in Wales. With how the new clips are inserted, Ruth's original recordings are from around 1998 so have been in use for a long time. Many of the other voices across the network have similar issues now too as their voices have changed over the years.
Ruth was originally running on a SEMA system when it was first rolled out in the late 90s, which was then merged with ATOS in the early 2000s I believe. Apparently it took her three days in Nottingham to record all the phrases! I’m not 100% sure when Eryl was rolled out as many of the stations in Wales were operated by other TOCs (Phil was announcing at Cardiff Central until 2003) but he probably would’ve been at a few.
Everytime I hear her say 'West Midlands Railway' I think she is trying to do an impression of Rodger. Nice announcements as always!
I wonder if she had 'London Northwestern Railway' recorded in the same session... WMT need to get some bi-modes to Shrewsbury so we can find out!

Great announcements. Love how she pronounces all the welsh station names
I love how fed up she sounds when she says “west midlands railway”

Anne sounds a bit posher and to me, Ruth's voice has got deeper but her Bow Street recording is quite good.
Who doesn't think Ruth says TFW like TRANSPORT FOR WAles
