No, it's a shitty camera for that price, with 600 dollars you can buy a very good second hand camera DSLR that's fast, good and doesn't need a tripod to take steady pictures. The P900 is crap, even an iPhone is faster and better at pictures than the P900, all you have is the zoom, anything else it's just stupid... for a camera that looks like the way P900 does, with that zoom and all it should take at least steady pictures....
I saw your photos on flickr. It is hard to believe they were taken with the P900. Amazing what a quality those pictures have. They are much better then a lot of dslr camera's. Well with this kind of quality my choice is made.
Have to agree about the eye piece. I really love the camera and been using mine for over a year now. its made bird watching a dream. Not had any problem once got used to camera for taking photos of flying birds. Did have problems at first but practice makes perfect! I like the battery charging from cable as while uploading photos it is charged and ready to go.
I think so. In some cases when camera is steady its as if standing next to subject. With me usually a bird as with all cameras you have to practice at first it was a pain then gradually got used to it now love using it
Bird watching? Missing eye cup? Poor view finder? Excuse me, but are we getting so stupid and hypocrite about us? This camera is designed for BABES WATCHING, YES!!! On the beach, across the city apartments buildings and terraces as well as parks, yes. Why the swiveling screen if not to lubriciously peep our subjects without pointing it directly at them looking like a cheap pervert? Want to watch birds? Buy a National Geographic CD or go to IMAX or just watch the Discovery Channel. You'll NEVER get their results, only frustrations. Sex sells ANY product; from cars to internet. WHAT..? Internet is to get info & knowledge, you say? Well, if it was only for that the net will be as empty as your local municipal library. I'm gonna get me this camera, yes Sir!!
I agree inclusion of an external battery charger and spare battery should have been in the basic p900 package but was included in deluxe packages. Nikon needs a dual external battery charger/usb power supply. No hood or eye cup not a big deal since I use a hat when I need shade. Setting the stabilization to active and reducing image compression to 4 has improved image quality. I was never able to focus my manual film camera in low light with 500 mm lens so was excited to get good images in autofocus with the p900 (not great but good enough). Like the gps tagging.
WOW what a picky review. I own a P900 and I have found that it does everything that I bought it for. I did find a 67mm lens hood on ebay and it cost me virtually nothing. I also use my 67mm filters on the camera without any problems. People have said to me that they don't like the P900 because you can't put any filters on. If it has a thread like the P900 you can. I've taken action gold shots ( single click ) as opposed to the sports setting and as far as nature shots go I have some absolutly beautiful shots of animals. The landscape shots are to be believed. I have had many cameras in my life and each camera has been bought for a special need. These days if you just want to get family shots or holiday shots, use your phone but if you have a special need for a camera, there are plenty out there.
I have one of these camera and I love the zoom on it. However, it has a Lens Error where the lens will not move. I just sent it off for Warranty Repair so we will see how that works out. I do not know how anything happened since I was so careful with it. I just hope it gets fully fixed under repair and it gets returned soon.

Man, I know it has a very small sensor, but your moon pic (on your link) is amazing!
Bit of a fast review , but clear , I've got the Panasonic DC fz82, 60x zoom , 18 mpx , but you charge that up through the side if the camera too , but there's no problem with that , I prefer it .
That was a great review - informative and detailed and covers a couple things that are critically important. And little to no useless UA-camr information. Thanks.
I have had mine for about a week I have to agree with you about the eye cup, I wear a hat with a bill that helps with viewfinder. I do wish it had a ISO control on the camera body. So far I really like the camera it is a lot of fun. I got some great shots of the super moon. Actually I got the camera to do bird shots.
The EVF in my P900 suddenly appears much smaller. It appears to display information fine, but now seems smaller, and I can clearly see the large frame around it when I look in. I've tried adjusting the dipoter setting (which works fine for focus) but no change in EVF size. I've also tried removing battery, full reset,as well as some gentle tapping. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggested resolution? Is there a hidden setting somewhere?
Good camera, I only wish it could shoot stars and milkyway, but the open shutter time is very limited on this camera. If it could be used for astrophotography it would be a MINT. Still this is a camera i must have my hands on.
Hi! The video is old, sorry. But i'm thinking if getting a camera with a good zoom, but i'd also use it as a "normal" camera (not just for the zoom). I can't decide between the Nikon Coolpix P900 and the Canon SX70 HS. Does it really matter in the quality that the SX70 has a bit more megapixels? Which one do you recommend more? Or any other cameras with zoom but a bit better specs? Thank you!
Reds Rhetoric captured the International Space Station with this camera. Im not sure if you know the speed of the ISS but its incredibly fast. The ISS is moving at a speed of 4.76 miles/s. Just throwing this out there that he did capture the ISS moving at that speed with this camera actually very well.
IMHO, the low refresh rate of the 'Live-view' viewfinder and the lack of manual focusing ability are by far, the biggest faults of this camera. It makes tracking distant objects moving against a background all but impossible!
Was just looking at this particular model today. Thanks for the review. Would appreciate it if you would suggest something better out there that is comparable in price and optical ability?
very nice pictures. So over all you think a good buy or do the annoyances out way the zoom. I think pretty much people want this thing for the zoom no? Also does it take good micro shot? close up of bugs and things? Here is it August 8, 2017, I just do not know if I should wait for the next generation captain? Can not even find a used one for sale at a good price so these must be in demand, never see a sale on Amazon either.
The zoom is the real reason to get this. A lens of comparable quality on a mirrorless would cost you over 1k and be too unwieldy to even hold it in your hand. It's a good camera for parents who want to shoot photos/video of their kids on a stage, graduations, and any scene where you're going to be setback quite a bit from the scene.
I bought this NIKON P 900 when it first came into the market end of April 2015. Now I have some problems with the zooming. It is now not that clear sharp images when I zoom to the near end. Recently , another problem appears. I cannot transfer pics/videos to my computer . The cable seems or the head for the cable appears faulty. I need to send to the workshop next week.
Kennie MusicLovers pretty scary for poor ppl like me.if I buy this camera for 600 dollars which is it's price nowadays than I can't dream of spending 200 dollars more on repair in year or so
The downside is that this camera is not available in any store in Montreal. I found one Best Buy that had it but it was the demo version and not for sale.
bestbuy.com is the USA version. bestbuy.ca is the Canadian version and they don't have it. I typed p900 and it finds it but it says "sold out online" and for the local version, it isn't clear.
Is this camera only good if you want to zoom in on everything? I'm really wanting it but need one that can take normal pictures also like pictures around the Christmas tree or sitting at a table for a birthday party.
Love my family ,the camera is great close range ,i would recomend it strongly for what you get for your money.i have a page on facebook UKKM PHOTOGRAPHY if you would like to have a look at some of the albums ,I take photos these days of mainly birds but also do lots of other stuff, it will give you a good idea of the range of pics you could take, just a thought before you bought one
sheeple ,,theres a vid somewhere on here with some info ,its not out yet ,i believe they are licensing the lens or some shit like that,i want the 1000 badly
Look for one that clips in using the camera's 67mm filter threads -- goes on/comes off quickly -- rather than one that threads on laboriously. (there's a trick to getting the clip hood to stay on securely but it works well once you get the hang of it) You can google "clip lens hood 67mm" to begin checking out who is selling what. Wide range of prices. No need to overpay.
I had to add a UV filter.....then a cheap lens hood from eBay will fit. It will vignette around the edges when shooting at 24mm......but, I rarely use this camera for shooting close! I just zoom it out a touch and then it's fine from there out.
It is certainly a beautiful camera, but it is so heavy.... I have the P610 and it is also a beautiful camera... too bad they made this one heavy. why would anyone use an eye cup when you have the LCD screen ... I've gotten professional quality photos and I have never used an eye viewer... in fact I feel like I am not getting the full shot when I have tried.
The LCD is really hard to see in bright sunlight, that said, I found the view finder works just fine in those conditions even without an eye cup. Also my lens hood was less than 20 bucks.
okleydokley YES you idiot... I am physically handicapped and that's why the 900 is a little too heavy for me... have a little conscience and don't assume someone can do everything you can.
not external HotSoe for external flash and not 4K video resolution so a zoom so powerfull is the only thing good about this camera - Nikon is so back with present tecnologie and I'm so angry for that - if you have not an hot shoe fore external flash well you can't use it in studio .
Well, I have a Nikon P510 I have been using a lot over the last 5 years and it's still working just fine. I think you would need to be unlucky or careless to have one die on you in 2 years.
I can't believe you think USB battery charging by cable is a minus. That's the biggest upgrade to camera's in years. Plus you don't even have to take the camera off the tripod to get to the battery. Battery chargers on Ebay are cheap and so are the batteries. Dude, their are cameras for different photo shoots, this one is for zooming. HAHAHA
too fast that is. the eye peice is hd but not the film thats been taken my pictures arent clear at far distence theirs so much more to learn about making pictures clear
For future reference, you can go to settings and slow the video making him easy to understand.. I typically speed videos up so I can get through videos faster getting more from my youtube "education" lol
Like i said, easier to take pictures with my phone than with this camera. I have an old Canon, it takes pictures a lot faster and clearer than P900. Even with just a bit of zoom you have to keep the camera really steady, pretty annoying for today knowing that even an iphone 5 doesn't need a tripod to take a steady picture. I mean for a camera of this caliber it's a must! i bought it i used a bit but i took it back, people say it's cheap for what it offers, i think it's too expensive for what it offers, you only have the zoom, anything else is mediocre
An iphone 5 doesn't need a tripod because as with all phones, the lens is wide angle. Attach any wide angle lens to any DSLR camera like a Sigma 8-16mm, you don't need a tripod, unless you are doing long exposures of 30 seconds plus. Something that cannot be done using an iphone. When you start using long focal lengths, a lot of lenses like the Tamron 70-300 SP has image stabilisation, which is handy at the 300mm focal length. Anything with a zoom you will always have shake. The longer the zoom, the more camera shake you will have. Liike you said with your Canon camera, your pictures are a lot better, that's because you are using a lens that doesn't have as much glass or lens elements as this lens does (P900). You tend to find lenses like a 18-300 will have not as good image quality as say a lens like a 70-300. The sensor is quite small (6.2mm x 4.6mm) on the P900. This doesn't help with low light. As with your Canon, if it's a crop sensor APS-C (22.5mm x 15.0mm) it's a lot bigger, so you will get better image quality, especially in low light. I would use this P900 over an iphone any day :-)
Bruh, it's a $600 camera. You can't expect too much for that price. It's a damn good camera for that price.
I'm Just Here Bro
It's a crap camera you can buy way better than that for that amount
No, it's a shitty camera for that price, with 600 dollars you can buy a very good second hand camera DSLR that's fast, good and doesn't need a tripod to take steady pictures. $870 Canadian after tax
I got mine 4 days ago , and I luuve it!!!

Love this amazing camera.. at this price..
Hwo buy it l have it

congratulations, you are the first guy that said something about the camera EVF in all reviews I watched . It help me a lot in my decision. Thanks

You do realize that this is a very inexpensive camera for what it is.
D Hollister I couldn't agree more
I photographed the Kingfisher that I am using as my icon with it
His complaint points are addressable on cameras >$1000 more.
I think I can pick up a $5 lens hood and suffer.
BUT, i find that the zoom on the Nikonp900 doesn't reach its max without becoming blurry.
Theres no RAW, true, if thats what you mean by 'not a photography camera'
D Hollister
Now it's not
I bought it and it's crap
All you get is a zoom
The pictures are low quality and hard to stabilise them
I just recently got this camera i agree with what you said a good review of it.
I own a P900....and your Review is Super Listenner Friendly & Extremely acurate !! :)
Considering the price, some of your Flickr pix are very impressive - you even managed to catch a flying saucer!
Your photos with the Nikon P900 inspires me to be a photographer. Your photos look pretty good.
WOW what a picky review. I own a P900 and I have found that it does everything that I bought it for. I did find a 67mm lens hood on ebay and it cost me virtually nothing. Can you tell me how the battery charges? Does it have an external adapter or it can only be charged by keeping battery inside the camera?
I have one of these camera and I love the zoom on it. However, it has a Lens Error where the lens will not move. I just sent it off for Warranty Repair so we will see how that works out. Thanks
It needed a better manual focus , especially at 2000mm. Still I got awesome photos off it.
This camera is basically a powerful telescope that take pictures/videos. Not met to be your one and only for perfect pictures just an extra.
Wow, great sample pics
I have had mine for about a week I have to agree with you about the eye cup, I wear a hat with a bill that helps with viewfinder. I do wish it had a ISO control on the camera body. Is the camera good for taking portraits or just normal pictures? It seems that all it's good for is the zoom. Thanks for any info.
Rodney Perry how is the vr?
thanks for speaking fast nice review
Seems like an eye cup would be a pretty easy DIY.
Nikon P900 coolpix, The Zoom is excellent.
I like this camera

Pictures are beautiful. Was There any post production work done to the images? Noticed you hardly shot beyond ISO 400. Mostly
Was just looking at this particular model today. Thanks for the review.
Would appreciate it if you would suggest something better out there that is comparable in price and optical ability?
Great pictures my man . Hey , not all of us are made for this ;) .
What camera would you prefer to this one?
Thanks for the review. Very nice photos too.
Will it take 16:9 aspect ratio shots?

How does the P900 shot pictures or take video in the day in bright light ?
it can have a lens hood

All good now, thanks, some of the photos are sound!
talk, talk, talk.......
look at the images it makes...!!!
The downside is that this camera is not available in any store in Montreal. I found one Best Buy that had it but it was the demo version and not for sale.
Not even from BestBuy.com?
bestbuy.com is the USA version. bestbuy.ca is the Canadian version and they don't have it. I typed p900 and it finds it but it says "sold out online" and for the local version, it isn't clear.

I have a blue in color square in viewfinder of my p900 Nikon is that normal? thanks
There is an nikon external charger with the camera 🤔 maybe you got a parallel imported camera 🤔
Is this camera only good if you want to zoom in on everything? I'm really wanting it but need one that can take normal pictures also like pictures around the Christmas tree or sitting at a table for a birthday party.

Can you run this camera with the power cable pluged in like camcorders?
GAME OF DRONES ive tried. Yes you can.
Cant see flicker link
You recommended getting a lens hood. Are there any you would recommend that don't interfere with the lens retracting when you turn it off?
Look for one that clips in using the camera's 67mm filter threads -- goes on/comes off quickly -- rather than one that threads on laboriously. (there's a trick to getting the clip hood to stay on securely but it works well once you get the hang of it) You can google "clip lens hood 67mm" to begin checking out who is selling what.
Also my lens hood was less than 20 bucks.
what? are you disabled?
Any lighter and the higher zoom range would be unusable.
okleydokley YES you idiot... I am physically handicapped and that's why the 900 is a little too heavy for me... have a little conscience and don't assume someone can do everything you can.
zztophatzztophat hmmm never had a problem in sunlight with the LCD screen
BeHisLikeness
Heavy? Are you dumb? It's a light camera you fool.
Can it be attached to external mic
It's lacking both a mic-in and headphone-out
No
I have never attempted . But you can try with a usb-to-barrel converter cable . Watch this video .

Please! can i connect it to PC or LCD for Live Tethering.
Fadi Mustafa yes you can... via micro hdmi cable

Tony Zecchinelli you can use Slave mode if you are using in studio
Bridge camera like this one I heard that don't last very long like 2 years dead boom!
In two years of use at $600 or less......I'm sure you'll be after the next greatest thing by then! (I always am.)
Ah thank-you
Well, I have a Nikon P510 I have been using a lot over the last 5 years and it's still working just fine. I think you would need to be unlucky or careless to have one die on you in 2 years.

I bought it but never happy with image Quality for everyday photos. Image sensor is very small. Only good with shooting moon, nothing else😂😂😂😂
Sent my P900 back as image quality at the long range is poor so whats the point

Did the same took my money back this camera is crap
Mine is sharp so is not crap but as usual with these type of cameras you have to find a good copy of the lens.
Gerry mac ...digital zoom is bad on ANY camera. No matter the cost. Real photographers won’t use digital zoom. Only optical.
this thing is basically a telescope ! 🔭 , except, it. can. capture. and. record.

I would use this P900 over an iphone any day :-)
Thanks
