I was thinking 'Ugly American' --- and then it was said around the 10 minute mark. Will Portugal be overrun by the very thing I, in the U.S., want to leave behind?

Yep, our worry too! Sorry but I have no desire to be around (ex pats) immigrants from my own country when the US is burning to the ground. I don't trust they're not extreme like so many Americans are

I have read about horror stories of expats bought property in a small village and things started happe ing, they didnt know why, things exculated, to the extent that the expat family finally decided to leave because the villiagers made it clear that foreigners were not welcome. The expat family contacted police, they did nothing and even started harassing the family by stopping them repeatedly. Theexpat family started to worry about their safety and that of children. Farm animals were poisoned, property, car, etc vandalized, Apparently every foreigner who bought in that area were run out of the area prior to this family buying there. Does expat Portugal have any advice for ppl in these situations?

when are property prices going to return to normal? Right now there is no comparison of what you get comparing apples to apples when you look at other countries in Europe. A water view same size property in southern Italy in a same size town or city is 100K-150K Euro less than anywhere in Portugal except for out in the middle of nowhere in central Portugal. What gives?

The idea that you give priority to the elderly or those with children is not unique to Portugal. Perhaps American is the unusual country in terms of for caring or lack of for others.
