Tata did took some time for getting a automatic gearbox, and their decision to offer it in a 1.2 NA petrol...it would be fine if anyone won't need performance, but need good economy, Altroz DCA will be a good choice, let's wait when Tata offer a turbo petrol with DCA combo....
Machine learning, electronic interface in gear box etc etc is fine. It's time now to improve the engine performance and refinement which gives the reliable longevity engine.
How is engine performance or smoothness related to reliability? You are comparing apples to oranges. Sure the NA engine might not give you chills but it sure is reliable. Tbh people who want performance would never opt this engine for them Polo tsi or Altroz Iturbo are there.
refinement is bad but people have already driven these engine more than 3lkh kms and its hell of a reliable unit compare to any 1.2 on offer(not talking about performance or refinement)
It should be compared with Baleno AMT, Jazz CVT, I 20 CVT, Micra CVT etc and not with Polo DCT or I 20 turbo dct which have a completely different profile including pricing and fuel economy. Seen in this company it may not do too badly.
Well explained all technical features with its pros and cons. New DCA in a 3 cylinder 1.2 ltr N. A engine with less power output is not much exciting for a prospective buyer, aspirational in his needs and requirements.
It's an outsourced gearbox from a European company (Belgium based) called "Punch Powertrain". God forbid if any customer encounters any issue with this gearbox later it will be interesting to see how will Tata manage to fix it as they usually don't have the capable technical staff. And let's not just assume its reliability just because it's wet clutch, only time will tell. Altroz DCA has service internal every 6 months / 7,500 km (1 year / 10,000 km is the norm today) that shows how "confident" Tata is on Altroz DCA long term reliability.
I think the reason they didn't offer it with the Turbo version is because it would have become too expensive and users would have just bought Nexon or some other car at that price point instead of a hatchback.
90% drivers are normal drivers who drive relaxed n not required that high end performance which came with high pricing less efficiency and more wear n tear for engine and out of budget n more costly maintenance.

Well cuz it's not a sports car. Its for a small family which have practicality and more of a city car. That's the reason GR Yaris, civic type r, Mazda miata mx5, Abarth 124 spider etc would never come to India.

Tata has played it very smart. Majority of the buyers in sub 10 lakhs price bracket (on road ) have only experienced AMT or CVT transmission, neither of which are any good in the real world. Even with a slightly average engine , offering the taste of a proper Dual Clutch automatic will definitely increase their market share.

Just Drive Honda CVTs with their diesel engine...its smoother than any other automatics out there. Also drive Nissan Magnite CVT Turbo petrol...its smooth as silk, rubber band effect is non existent in sports mode, it feels like a Torque Converter. AMTs are bad and I agree with you on that point.

We bought Tata Altroz XZ+ DCA (O) on 17th April from Arya Tata, Sector-14, Gurgaon. Within two months, we have faced issue with the AC and the engine. The AC stops working on standby mode and sometimes, while the car is driven. Recent problem which is a grave issue is the car halts out of the blue and it does not start. The first time this happened, we had to wait for almost two hours on a main road for someone from Tata to come and resolve the issue. Nothing was resolved in our first free servicing which was discovered in the test drive. We brought the car again on 25th June which is yesterday so that the AC and the major problem of the engine/battery problem gets resolved. However, today evening after all the formalities, when we started the car to take it back home, it was worse. The car started for two seconds to come back to a halt. We tried thrice and then, we had to call the staff. Our experience with this Tata Car and After-sales Services have been so disappointing that we utterly regret buying an automobile of an Indian Brand. We had a Honda City ZX (Bronze Pearl colour) and we have had an amazing experience with the car for almost 14 years. With the Tata Altroz, we are having wastage of time, money, efforts and I don't know how much of the defects will be resolved and how much problem we have to face after the Warranty Period is over.
Wait a minute... So Baleno AMT is almost 4 seconds faster than Altroz DCT?!... they should've given DCA with the diesel or iTurbo at least as an option... still a good effort from Tata, i hope they add this to various other models.

Tata is experimenting by installing it's DCA in the Altroz normal petrol now.. it's performance & reliability will lead to the gearbox being used in Altroz Turbo & Nexon!.. I'm very happy it's a wet clutch unit which makes it reliable against VW/ Skoda/ Hyundai/ Kia Dry Clutch unreliable/ overheating DCT/ DSG which I never recommend to anyone!..

I'd much rather find myself in a not so fast and exciting 5 star safety rated car than a fast and exhilarating 3 star rated car. Those looking for an enthusiasts car should go with i20s, polos and balenos. Those who need a comfortable, safe and economical car for daily usage that's also spacious enough for a family should consider Tata and Mahindra products.

my newly purchased Altroz DCA from autovikas dealer in faridabad is lacking oil From Day 1 from DCA transmission. This is the first batch of Altroz DCA and we are used by TATA Motors as Beta Testers of their half baked product. I want some other AT car without this DCA gearbox.

Tata is manufacturing vehicle for mass people and getting their market share increased from single digit to 13-14% now. They will target to climb up with more sales numbers only. With current increase in sales i feel they will not look for performance cars to serve only enthusiastic. For enthusiastic we have certain brands. Most of the comments are for turbo engine. As we know it is said in media that 85% sales is with NA engine. So Tata choosed engine first and then looked for automatic transmission. Hopefully they will use same transmission for all cars above altroz budget, which is Nexon, harrier and safari. I feel they will come out from Hyundai sourced transmission used in harrier and safari. Like other companies all budget models will have AMT transmission and DCA will be on higher models.

You can trust Tamo's oldies to screw up what could otherwise be a fine car. Be it Altroz NA engine or Punch which is so overpriced. Altroz turbo is toned down version of Nexon and so is Tigor EV. These decisions are beyond me.
Tata lagging behind a lot in terms of engines. Their engines are not as good as Mahindras. It’s high time they correct this or else they’ll loose the momentum they gained till now. In fact their engines are sub par in all cars when compared to their every rival.

Not all 3-cylinder engines are as bad as Tata's. For instance, take Maruti Alto 800cc is a 3 pot one too but refined. You won't find any great difference in refinement between this 800cc engine and their 1L or 1.2L 4-cylinder engines.
Any technology of gearbox won't work for tata until tata decides to remove their generator type petrol engines . Very underpowered engine with lots of judder is what tata packs underneath their bonnet.
I have Altroz Turbo and I love its power.. Feels safe inside. As a first car and driving I am very happy on the buy. 😊

VW DQ200 DSG is indeed the best in the business. Business for VW because so many gearbox failure issues with only gearbox replacement as a solution.

What Tata needs for that 1.2 is better tuning and variable valve timing system for better top end power. Atleast target 95hp from that engine.

Ik DCT is the best auto transmission but Is it okay to compare Altroz DCA with Kiger CVT or Magnite CVT? Which could be smoother ?
100% CVT is smoother than DCT
NA engine is returning just 8.2kmpl (as read on odometer).. What if it is equipped with a turbocharger too! 5kmpl for a hatchback!!! Tough to beat 🔥🔥

None. Wait for nexon dca or altroz turbo dca. Or buy the i20 N line. Or buy the altroz turbo manual
You can trust Tamo's oldies to screw up what could otherwise be a fine car. Be it Altroz NA engine or Punch which is so overpriced. Altroz turbo is toned down version of Nexon and so is Tigor EV. These decisions are beyond me.

Tata lagging behind a lot in terms of engines. Their engines are not as good as Mahindras. It’s high time they correct this or else they’ll loose the momentum they gained till now. In fact their engines are sub par in all cars when compared to their every rival.

🚘🚘🚘Tata and other manufacturers should go for 4 cylinder engines instead of 3 cylinder and turbo.. Bcoz, we can get good refinement, durability and power in 4 cylinder models... 🚕🚕
Not all 3-cylinder engines are as bad as Tata's. For instance, take Maruti Alto 800cc is a 3 pot one too but refined. You won't find any great difference in refinement between this 800cc engine and their 1L or 1.2L 4-cylinder engines.

Tata has done a lot of R&D before bringing altroz Dca and the result is good. Well done. Segment will get hotter with the launch of Citroen C3 dct.

Any technology of gearbox won't work for tata until tata decides to remove their generator type petrol engines . Very underpowered engine with lots of judder is what tata packs underneath their bonnet.
