    Hey Tara! I just discovered your channel through this video after a long and frustrating night trying to get my tested formulation to work on a large batch. I'm also self-taught in this fascinating new world, only a few days into it, so understanding these building blocks of chemistry is super helpful!
    If I might add, I think this video would have been a great place to discuss the effects of crossing the CMC (e.g., by having more solubilizer than needed for the amount of oils) and how to mitigate potential downsides such as cloudy emulsions (spoiler alert, not by adding more emulsifiers! haha).
    Also, your disclaimer was great. Allow me to say, despite not defining yourself as a professional, your humbleness and passion for your craft alone would make me choose your products over those from large companies any day. It's a pleasure to listen to you as well! Both the video and audio were great. I'm definitely subscribed!

    ❤ I have a problem I can’t figure out! I used your sugar scrub recipe, but the oils always separate and come to the top. Can’t tips? The recipe: 1.5g cetyl alcohol, 15g emulsifying wax, 51g oils (20g almond oil, 21g coconut oil, 5g jojoba oil, 5g white willow bark extract) 1.5g optiphen, .75g vitamin E, 1.5 fragrance and 75g of sugar! Any feedback would be sooo appreciated! Thank you in advance!

    Tara, 1st of all Thank You! I had been watching Vids, Reading Posts, etc on making Skin Care Products (hydrous body butters & also face creams) for over 1½ yrs (made a few batches) & Could Not grasp Concepts of How to Formulate (until I found your Channel) nor did I know about Making Products Less Greasy & More Lightweight by substituting Oil Portions with Other Very Effective Ingredients (ie C12-15, Coco Caprylate, etc) so Again Thank You.

    Thank you very much for your channel i learnt alot from it❤️❤️❤️i have a question how do i know when to use ionic or nonionic emulsifier?
    I love the way you explain in your videos ❤️❤️❤️

    • @TaraLeee
      @TaraLeee  11 місяців тому +1

      When it comes to creating an emulsion you can typically use any type, but it can vary depending on what other Ingredients you are using and how you want the product to feel and what your products final PH is.
      Btms 50 is cationic so it will condition the skin. It will make a more velvety feeling lotion. It isn’t compatible with anionic ingrdients though, so it will destabilize with those types of ingredients.
      Non ionic emulsifiers are probably the easiest since they don’t have ions and you won’t have to worry as much about stability. Emulsifying wax NF is non ionic.
      Then there is ritamulse SCG/ eco mulse which is anionic and this may destabilize, just like any emulsifier might. And you also can’t use it with cationic ingredients unless that cationic ingredient specifies that it’s is okay. For example honeyquat is cationic but you can use it with anionics.
      I’m planning an emulsifier video 😁
