Our Project Mini Cooper S F56 gets Bilstein B16 Coilovers

- No good project is complete without a suspension upgrade, and after upping the power with a remap the little Mini desperately needed something better to keep it composed out on the twisty roads.
We chose the Bilstein B16, a common theme among our project cars, as for us it strikes the right balance between compliance and performance, Ideally suited to UK roads. The adjustability in ride height also meant we could finally get the car sitting lower to the ground, BMW chose to have the car look like it's on stilts from the factory, so a healthy amount of lowering was much needed to improve the cars stance.
In this video Imran gives you a detailed analysis of the car with the standard suspension, and then again with the Bilstein B16's fitted.

great job with these videos, not only entertain but pretty useful for mini users, Thanks, guys!
Great coverage Imran
Love the video, love the car. I have the same exact car left hand drive.
Love the car. Thank you for such informative content.
You drive like the boss. I want a mini.
Only a quick question, you sure you have run flats? Only 18” are run flats..’jcw alloys’ and your alloys are 17” only know because I have one. Great videos, keep up the good work.
My 14 F56 MCS came with those 17's and Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Run Flats. Looks like they are on Michelin Run Flats here.
Yeah but, the B16 kit has two adjustments on all 4 corners - the ride height, and the shock damping. I didn't hear what their shock damping setting was? The lowest setting is called 'comfort' by Billstein. Was that setting tried to compare to the stock struts?
Great video.
I know this car is long gone, but it sounds like it (only) needed lighter wheels, better tires and some stiffer/adjustable sway bars (plus the diff). Doing coilivers for just looks w/o corner balancing is dumb in my book. That's the point of coilovers; to raise lower corners of the car to give optimal weight balance for the track/driving environment. (adjustable) Coilovers are cool, but misused 98% of the time.
Looking forward to seeing how you guys develop the car, you guys definitely need a down pipe and a intercooler to really get some power out of the f56.
Already in the works 👍👍
Can I ask, as wanting to upgrade my front lights as just a bulp. Noticed your was led? Anywhere I can get this
How is that F56 making that noise, is it an exhaust upgrade, air filter or what?
Why put 205 skinny tires not 215
Great video guys. Do you know if there a way to lower a Mini Cooper with the stock adjustable suspension? Love the adjustable suspension but not so much the high look of the car.
Jeremy Funnell yes. You just need lowering springs.
Lowering springs would be the only option, normally we'd suggest the KW HAS kit but they don't make it for the Mini sadly.
I have this same set for my car (an F55 with stock 510 wheels) .. getting ready for install. I didn't see any wheel spacers used. From what I've read "wheel spacers may be required". No one I reach out to seems to have a real answer here. Are wheel spacers required?
From memory we didn't use any.
B16 is the same as B14?
How do you like these bilstein's? Im considering getting then
We were a fan of them
@@EvolveAutomotivegood to hear. They are relatively affordable aswell
Sick
How many clicks from soft did you have the suspension setup in this video? Was there room for a softer setting?
We keep them fairly central, as they are setup from Bilstein, believe we go one click softer on the front, but you could definitely soften them up more.
Hi how low did you go??
If I might ask a question, is the colour of the project MINI Thunder Grey, or Moonwalk Grey ? Thanks!
Thunder Grey
Any reason why the choice of Bilstein coilovers over the KW v2 coilovers? The JCW pro coilovers are basically built by KW.
From past experience we find the Bilsteins to be a bit more suitable for UK roads, and we've had the B16's on many cars before including our M2 GTS, and find they suit what we do with the cars.
Would you know if the GP2 came with the same coils from factory?
Wouldn't be the same as this is an F56 and the GP2 was an R56.
Evolve Automotive Thank you .
Did you add front camber plates to the mini? Do you have measurements how low you set the coilovers?
We kept the stock top mounts so no camber adjustment. We set the adjusters roughly 20-30mm from the bottom. It’s not that low but when set all the way down the car just doesn’t handle well.
Thank you for that input
Any developments planned for the M140i?
Until we crack the ECU we can't do much development really. JB4 is a good option if you have one and are wanting more power now. The Eventuri for it is good too.
Man how old is this vid??? I don't remember the last time it rained 😂😂
Hahaha half the video is probably two months old, rest of it is this week. Scheduling kept getting in the way to finish it!
Not going to lie editing the first part made reminisce about those cooler days 😂
Should try buddy club
"The setup is pretty good actually", then goes to spend 1600 on coilovers
When a car is good out of the box, you need to spend more to improve it!
