I love this in depth explanation and lesson. I’m trying to learn my favorite songs by ear and it’s helping me get into theory. Much more enjoyable experience this time
He is very good!
I love watching folk teach guitar. Everyone knows something someone else does not.
Thanks, Shawn.
Yeah Timmy that is right. I have had students of mine show me licks before. The master can learn from the student.
pro tip : watch series at flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Brady Talon Yup, I have been watching on Flixzone for years myself =)
@Brady Talon yea, been watching on flixzone for since december myself :)
Good stuff man, I watched this and your drop d tutorial as well, Will really help my band to make songs!
Sorry for the delayed response but I love your comment because that is the reason I do it.
Thank You!!! I recently started playing some Native American Style Flute in Eminor and other keys so this has been helpful. I like that F#minor flat 5th. I need to try that. I subscribed. I will check out some of your other videos. Thank you for the free lesson Shawn!!!
My pleasure Virginia, thanks for watching.
Thank you so much!
This is a gem! Thanks for sharing
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
I wasn't sure I was going to watch, your vid appeared in my feed as a suggestion, but I saw the Schecter guitars I had to watch! I have the Solo 2 Apocalypse and the Omen 6, I am a big Schecter Guitar Fan. Then, I watched the video and felt I needed to also thank you for the information and chord suggestions, it was informative and precise and I now have it as a reference in my library. Thank You! Great Video!
Replies like this make my day. For the most part my Les Pauls and Strats are sitting on the self because I love my Schecters. I have a Red Reign with stainless steel frets I play more than any of my other guitars.
OMG thank you. This was the most helpful video for my new song I am writing.
Thanks so much for that comment. It means a lot to me and the reason why I do this. Keep up the great work.
Dude I like your Schecter guitars. Thanks, you cleared up some of my questions. I totally understand now.
Thanks for watching. I am doing a beginner series right now but you might like my next video for guys who are better players like you. I am going to show how to use chromatic notes in a solo in a couple days.
Thanks man!
My pleasure, thanks for watching.
Thank you !! Good lesson !! (i have the same Schecter Red Reign with the Sustainiac in my collection ! I liked the roman numeral inlays !)
The Red Reign is now my go to guitar and I own many guitars. Thanks for your comment.
This is useful, trying to work out chords for e blues. Don't like g chord, all I know is power chords and d sus 2, though I know 2 positions of this chord.
The major G chord actually works well in blues in the key of E. Try hitting your E minor chord while placing your 4th and 3rd fingers on strings one and two (G 5) at the same time for that Hendrix feel.
The last part sounded like Beatles ,
I’m trying to mix my chords up , you moved to the 12 bar and it changed the sound so quick.
I’m learning SLOWLY.
I apologize if I talked too fast I am trying to fix that, LOL. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and thanks for watching.
Awesome video. I became interested in the E minor key once I realized that Metallica has a lot of songs in this key!
I am impressed that they have so many songs in the key of E minor that sound different. Love those guys.
All sounded too happy... What would be so more melancholy coming of age theme. Progression?? Thanks
I don’t know how to figure out the low Am he’s playing on the low string.

Yup looks like 27 years of hair growth! God bless
The last time I had short hair was 1984. I have had trims now and then. Here is a video a few years back at it's longest.

Come as you are-Nirvana sounds like it’s in this key. Is this true?
Sorry for the delayed response but I think when I tried playing that once it is in Drop D.
tq
My pleasure, in the next couple days I will post a video on Eminor 3 octave scale alternative.
It will be of very helpful for me.
@@pynskhemborlyngdoh2316 I will contact you when I release it.
@@pynskhemborlyngdoh2316 Sorry for the delay ua-cam.com/video/fJVtqqjJ_DA/v-deo.html
Now I just got to figure out how to make those chords... yeah, yeah, I know throw more money at it....
Sorry for the delayed response but something I tell my students "If I followed you around all I day I can find 20-30 minutes of wasted time a day". Imagine if you worked one riff or chord progression 20 minutes a day while also doing your regular practice? Thanks for your comment, I love comments like yours.
@@ShawnStaplesFreeGuitarLessons I usually practice an hour or 2 a day, but the only thing I struggle with his chords because no one tells you where to put your fingertips on the fretboard you have to do the 14th Philharmonic position of the subharmonic total negativity of The Partridge Family or whatever that theory crap is.
Everyone online today sells a course to decode Theory where they do an incredibly piss-poor job of it. It's something we're stuck with right now while fly-by-night instructors online are trying to sell courses that include that lingo in order to convince people "Wow this instructors educated he knows what he's talking about" then pay for the course and then hear the same bullshit over and over...
@@DJMerck That is why my lessons here are free. I have nothing to sell you and will not waste your time trying to. Thanks for your comment.
his little finger is giving me anxiety
Good one, Not only do I have a long pinky finger but it is really strong after years of training it. LOL.
Dave mustaine
horrible guitar sound
Yeah that $4,000 Friedman head modified by Dave Friedman himself is horrible. Maybe you can tell me what amp you are using so I can go buy one and have good tone like you.
