Let me fix that commenters dont add any value
It's literally pulling from a top 100 albums list and Gaye is #1 it doesn't get any harder
I think it’s pulling from the damn Rolling Stones one
Lololol
The only albums I’d consider above it are maybe Black Messiah or TPAB

"One of my favorite bobs". I'm never calling a Bob Dylan recod anything else.
this would've been a 10 minute video if he continued.
He shouldve stopped at blonde

@@Dondraper87104💀💀 please listen to more music
@@MUSE1795 Marvin Gaye Is far from the best soul artist ( Gil Scott heron, otis Redding, sade, d'angelo and stevie wonder are all better) and as much as I love what's going on its as if people just think its better by default because its a "classic" album sorry Blonde has so much more to say and makes a far more powerful statement.
@@michaelvick262 great album but it isn't better than blonde.
Purple Rain is a serious contender
Tbh purple rain is like a 7/10
@@paulncindyhome*10
It is definitely better personally
@@paulncindyhomegreat album. But yeah. I don’t know about 7 but it isn’t a 10 by any means.
@@RobRoeder53ow is it “not by any means”?
Songs In The Key of Life was the only record on this filter capable of defeating Marvin Gaye
THANK YOU
Not 100% if it's on the filter, know it's on the original list, but imo Electric Ladyland > What's Going On. Could argue for Highway 61 Revisited too
I thought the same but they’re both so great that it's really a toss-up.
@@dylandarcy1150agree on that Electric Ladyland is THE BEST Jimi Hendrix. love that album to bits
I would maybe consider abbey road as well, but abbey road, songs in the key of life and what’s going on are maybe my three favourite albums of all time.
I can't listen to Inner City Blues without getting emotional. Such a resonant album to this day.
Absolutely! That, Mercy, Mercy Me(The Ecology) and Wholy Holy - as well as Aretha’s version - are my favorites from that album.
some really good albums here in prince, hendrix, and frank; whats going on is just too good. certainly in my top ten ever
🤣
Where… are we going
Purple Rain and Blonde on Blonde are legit contenders.
Legit life changing albums
@@bradleyl0488 he said blonde on blonde lol. unless you just said that as a shortened version of the name.
my first listen to Blonde On Blonde in 2019, when i was just starting to listen to actual music after making a spotify account, changed my life and perspective on music forever. i cannot overstate how much i love that album.
The only thing I would say about Blonde on Blonde is that I think 4th time around is the only really special song on side 3. But it still has more good songs than any of the other albums here
@@_Singularity_ yea blonde on blonde is amazing but side 3 is a bit iffy. and when i say that i don't even mean it's bad - it's still great, it just sort of pales in comparison to the rest of the album. that's why some days blood on the tracks is my album of choice from him.
When it landed on "What's goin on?" I was like "GG"
Frank Ocean fans coming to state the worst opinion that Blonde is better
I mean objectively what’s going on is the better and more influential record, but blond is personally one of my favorite albums of all time so I would pick frank over Marvin Gaye in a heartbeat.
Yeah, like it's not better than What's Going On. Blond is a longer album and has some filler
@@David-yk5tq what filler? The only song I can really think of as filler is close to you and maybe good guy or be yourself, but those are interludes so they don’t really count.even then close to you is still an amazing song and the interludes do a good job of helping with the flow of the album.
i like it more, doesn't mean it's better. chill
@@liluminati9791 I never said it was better,I actually said the opposite.
Jagged Little Pill goes crazy
yeah but it’s not old so it can’t be better
I’m joking btw
Really does. She’s an amazing artist. I see why so many look to her as their influence.
Its a pretty heavy and emotional album
Jagged Little Pill is an absolute classic
Having to choose between what's going on and purple rain is enough to make your head explode 🤯
I'd give up instantly lmao
BLONDE ON BLONDE CONFIRMED 10 WE DID IT BLONDEHEADS
WOOOOOOO 🎉
He never said it was better
we been knowing b.o.b. was a 10, every album in that trilogy is tho
Hard one, but I still prefer Purple Rain. However PR, What’s going on and Blonde on Blonde are 10/10 so it’s like choosing which parrent you love more.
No To Pimp a Butterfly or Death Grips😢 he gives up.
I'll be honest, Darkness on the Edge of Town shouldn't have been ignored like that. I get that this all depends on taste, but that album is just as much of a contender as Blonde on Blonde and Purple Rain.
Agreed
It was the album that made me start paying attention to lyrics in songs
I came here to say this! Darkness is seminal Springsteen and a big contender for my favourite album of all time
@@LiamStainsby94 Oh yeah, it's one of my personal favorites ever! I know a list like this should try to be semi-objective, but I would personally pick Darkness any day of the week here.

What’s Going On above Purple Rain was a really interesting take considering Melon considers them both 10s

No one loves all their 10s equally and it wouldn’t be right to only ever have 1 10 either.
Purple Rain has some bad tracks

You got lucky with Blonde on Blonde
Maybe the one with the 4 British guys walking across a zebra crossing as a album cover...
blonde on blonde wayyy better

Probably my favorite non hip hop album of all time. Marvin Gaye is EVERYTHING!

Abbey Road maybe?
Blonde on Blonde tops it. One of the most important of all time, a lyrical opus.

Blonde on Blonde is a fantastic album, but imagine if we got Positively 4th Street on there too

Second best to me after Blood on the tracks

i would’ve tapped out at “Are You Experienced” the music on there feels like an extension of my being
AYE has a direct influence on every rock(sub genre) album since its release, and honestly probably influence is prevalent on most albums outside of rock as well. Jimi is one of the 3 most influential guitar players ever. Plus one of the greatest drummers ever and my personal favorite Mitch Mitchell
The comment section is filled with people saying they love "whars going on" its so great and influential to hip hop and rnb but i would bet a high majority of them cant name one song other than the album title. I would like to know what they hear that sounds like they were influenced by Gay
Glad you said it, "Are You Experienced" takes the cake for me
It’s ranked #1 for a reason. I feel like thriller could give it a run for it’s money but the entire What’s going on is amazing. From the lyrics, story telling, vocals and instrumentation.
there’s skips on thriller

Darkness On The Edge Of Town is better than What’s Going On (i don’t make that comment lightly though)
Not even close to Marvin

You missed it with that Prince album.. that was the only one I think that could’ve beat it.
Ehhhh
I’d take straight outta chompton, just so iconic

I think Purple Rain might take the cake just for the titular song. Amazing on every level.
Blonde on Blonde is better everyone agrees

i love how he says "absolutely not" like some suggested the alanis morrisette album was better than whats going on

“Picket lines and picket signs don’t punish me with brutality” crazy how lines from a half century old song are still completely relevant today. Marvin is the goat
blonde on blonde 100% better
The neverending album challenge
I woulda stopped at Bob, but it’s close

Hes waiting for tpab
I have albums that I *personally* enjoy more casually but I’m genuinely struggling as I’m trying to think of a better album than “what’s going on”
Blonde on Blonde.... is better.... by like every metric and its not close
Straight outta Compton was it for me!!

Purple Rain for me, depending on the mood.
Lol, trash mayonnaise-smudged opinions galore in here
Barely a top three Bruce Springfield record, I would put Nebraska and Born in the USA over it honestly
@@maxiamarilla5020 Nebraska maybe because of song writing and raw sound. Born in the USA is a top album but I can’t put it above darkness

Lost me at Jagged Little Pill. Fanatano still mad Alanis wrote You Aughta Know about him
Surprised he didn't pick Purple Rain
Bro got a better album on the first try but ok
Be honest: you put on "What's Going On" to hear 3 songs: the title track, "Mercy Mercy Me", and "Innercity Blues". The rest is just meh, or else a rehash of those three. Very overrated album.

Flying High In The Friendly Sky.
what’s going on is more legendary and is probably a top 5 album of all time but i really think blonde is close purely because of how creative and abstract it is between the theme and the sonic pallette. i’d still say what’s going on but i’d have to think for a second
Are you experienced is better
I think Purple Rain should’ve won
For *THE MELON* to pit this album above Purple Rain (an album ha gave a 10), i had to check it out, and...
It's an absolute banger.
anthony is only gaye for marvin
If only Bladee popped up🙄🙄🙄🙄
It's basically impossible to rival What's Going On. It's on the level of like Sgt. Pepper but filtered through the context of the African American experience, that's how bold, experimental and important that album is.
If only tpab was on the list
Id probably put Are You Experienced on first out of personal taste but yeah fair enough
In the court of the crimson king to me would be the impossible one
Purple rain was the answer
The absolutely not on Jagged Little Pill kinda hurt
Literally. I love the album
Too bad you didn’t get axis that woulda stopped it fr
"I give up"🙄💅
He said he want some Marvin Gaye
What’s Going On is really great, real SOULFUL vocals. I love Frank Ocean but that one song from Marvin Gaye alone eats up Blonde. If it was his Channel Orange album, I’d just might put that over Marvin.
The adlibs in What’s Going On is superior 🙌🏽
Pet Sounds is better imo
I fixed it by pausing it on Song In the Key Of Life
