  • Whitsun was always an important occasion in the industrial towns of Northern England. The religious holiday coincided with the annual "Wakes' week when the factories, mills and mines would close for the annual holidays, . In the past few decades, the traditional Marches of witness have largely disappeared but in the Pennine villages bordering Lancashire and Yorkshire the tradition continues.
In 2018 a film crew from BrassPas.tv recorded the morning procession in the beautiful village of Delph. The original film was shown live across the world on the day as part of Whit Friday Quick March Contests coverage. Because of the COVID 19 pandemic, no marches will take place this year. The producers went back and re-edited the original footage, and that film shows a ceremony that embraces the whole community. The film is narrated by British Bandsman editor, Mark Good.
This film is dedicated to all the people who work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure these traditions are upheld, with the hope all these traditional events can return to the calendar in 2021.
