- Look inside buildings you might not have been in for years. Listen to memories of times gone by. See ways the town has changed over the years. Share a new perspective on the town we call home.
This documentary, filmed in and around Sowerby Bridge between December 2020 and February 2021 records local people’s perspectives on the town. Reflect on its past, how it is at present and ideas for how it can become even better in the future.
The themes and aspirations in this documentary will be used to shape a programme of events and activities which will take place between now and March 2024.
INTRODUCING OUR CULTURAL PROGRAMME
Filmed as the first activity organised by Sowerby Bridge Shines. A consortium of the towns cultural organisations set up in November 2020 to deliver the Cultural Programme for the Sowerby Bridge High Street Heritage Action Zone.
HIGH STREET HERITAGE ACTION ZONE
The goal is to breathe new life into the town. It brings money and support to help carry out improvements to historic buildings and public areas in the town centre, provide opportunities to unlock local talent and enterprise and create connections between the town’s heritage and the community.

Gutting to see the baths in that state, I learned to swim there :(

Same, we had to walk Dawn from sowerby new road school
I'm a British Asian (Indian) who was there this Saturday 28th; it looks that I might have missed some of the sights (angles); however I loved the bits I saw. Thank god I didn't walk up the hill back to Burnley Road to go back to Hebden where I got off & took a bus lower down to Halifax first. On the way walking down that hill however, it was amazing !! Well made and 'touching video'. Thanks
Nice walk back to hebbden on the canal it's magic
That hill is called Tuel lane, I grow up on it. Back in the day the bus to school was a t the top and there wasn't one that went up the hill. Run up that thing so much as a kid just looking at it now makes my knees hurt
I live here
lucky....
Turkish barbers takeaways vape shops is all sowerby bridge is these days . It was better 20 years ago
I left 20 years ago, honestly don't recognise any of the area anymore
Isn’t it pronounced ‘soarby’ ?
I think the wonderful places needs a money injection. Something to do be done with the amount of traffic using it as just a pass through. Way too much traffic. We need better shops. Traditional shop names. Waterstones. Wh smiths etc
When i lived there over 10yrs ago the council was looking at a bypass onto station road on through mearclough and connecting with wakefield road but i guess nothing happened about that, it would have meant less traffic through main street and would have made it more pedestrian friendly and could have lead to it becoming more of a tourist centre for visitors, as long has they spend some money and restore the beautiful old buildings.
my last name is sowerby
Cool!! it's old norse for sower land
The fact that everyone in this place is wearing masks and face shields totally turned me off. NO THANKS
Rhys, absolutely spot on
