I remember Holger teaching a group of us to build one many years ago in Devon I went on to build my own some years later using the knowledge Holger gave us

I built a half sized one and carried it on the roof of my narrow boat for many years, it was great for exploring places that the big boat wouldn't fit!

Brilliant , thanks for posting this , I'm building a skin on frame kayak at-home it's a cool journey, I've been involved with building foyle punts with the man shed in moville it's definitely a rewarding experience

What did you use for tar. It looks like it destroyed every shirt and pair of trousers in Ireland

No way to build that way under the tropics where I live , because the tar will melt and the tarp will rot !! For my kayak I use a sort of nylon covered with anti UV varnish !! It's the only way I found to resist propical sun and humidity without rotting or "burning" !!

There's an Irish lad in Spain building curraghs on UA-cam somewhere he used a rubber based coating to overcome the temperature of the local water
