It really would be so fun and GREAT for baseball to matchup Darvish/Sasaki vs Shohei/Yamamoto in this already huge Padres Dodgers rivalry for the foreseeable future. It would lock Japanese tvs in for 324 games a season watching both teams instead of just 162 every year for one dodgers team.
RE the pitcher and hitter being on the same team for an inning, wouldn't the pitcher just intentionally walk or hit every single batter for as long as possible? Just grooving 52 mph slowballs into the most padded up hitters you've ever seen ad infinitum seems like the most foolproof strategy.
If he isn't able to come this year, then he isn't able to play with Ohtani without inducing a huge bidding war that keeps him away from his ideal location. If he ends up with LA, I can see that being a reason he is coming here now. If he ends up elsewhere, I'd be curious why he didn't wait for a better opportunity to cash in.
I’d assume it’s to play with Darvish. He can sign with LA 6 years from now in free agency and ohtani and Yamamoto will still be there. Hell murakami might too
@ryu-ken even better. It's better for the game right now if he doesn't go there for a large discount. Perhaps he wants to make sure everyone, not just the richest teams can afford him .. which is admirable.
Great interview!

@@ryu-kenyu darvish might not be around next 2-3 years. The Padres might salary dump him soon
