Great interview. It’s exciting to see the Dodgers have a group of ascendant position players. The Dodgers might have 4 position players make at least one MLB Top 100 lists including: Rushing, DePaula, Hope, and Freeland.
They need to release Barnes, bring Rushing up and have him catching more to spell Smith when he goes into those 0 - 16 slumps. Dalton is gonna be a special player and they better not trade him.
If I was a starting pitcher. 6 man rotation sounds good. You can rest your arm and still get pay the same. Plus, you get to pitch with some of the top pitchers in the league. Learn from them, and in the near future, you'll be the Ace of the team.
You'd also be less likey to get injured and everyone would be ready for the post season. To pick who would be pitching during the playoffs would be a problem, but a good one to have I guess.
Since you mentioned learning from veteran pitchers, that’s the argument for San Diego. Darvish is apparently a pitching savant who enjoys studying and teaching. Many think, despite all the money he’s made, will be a grip coach when his career is done. Mentor-mentee relationships cannot be forced and if one exists, as has been reported, between Darvish and Sasaki that has to be considered a major factor. Anyone fortunate enough to have benefitted from excellent mentorship can relate.
little tokyo, sawtelle and torrance. all the good japanese spots are in LA. in torrance some places i go to regularly the waiters exclusively speak japanese and i respond with hand signs and basic english 😂 he wont be homesick for sure. foods are great. in san diego they will force sasaki to eat taco
Yeah but the fish tacos in SD are pretty damn good. My grandmother only spoke Japanese and one afternoon one of my cousins made a taco salad for lunch. My grandmother remarked to my mom in Japanese, it was good but where was the octopus? My mom of course burst out laughing because tako in Japanese is octopus 🐙.
So today is the 6th. So if he is posted today, the back end of the 45 days will already have passed the 15th Jan. It will be interesting to see if Marines will post him after 15 Dec or before. Probably after because if he is posted before, then there is a slim chance he signs for 2024 pool. Nobody has answered this but I feel like there must be some advantage in terms of service time if Sasaki were to sign in 2024 pool vs 2025 pool. Like is there any difference between Ko Ching-Hsien and Emil Morales? One is signed Jan, the other in June. Or if Sasaki signed for same pool in December. Would their initial contract end at the same time? Certainly Ko contract cannot end mid season. Would Sasaki contract end 1 year after? This is important because the next contract cannot end mid be for big money.
1. Adapting to new league 2. Developing talent 3. Get paid the same anyway 4. The best city for asian/japanese 5. The best and the biggest fan base that wont forget about their player contribution. 6. Lesser pressure to be a hero to save their franchise and potential competing every year. What else not to choose dodgers ? Pitcher will injure and there is 1 club that stacking pitchers to help lessen their pitchers burden. So there is only 1 choice and that is the dodgers
Sasaki did receive I believe, $2 million from the powerful Japanese marketing firm, Dentsu, when he turned pro in Japan. I imagine this company will or has been lining up potential advertising and sponsorship deals and has been identifying which US markets would provide the best opportunities for greater coverage in the U.S. as well as adding other potential deals. So, it's not like sasaki is broke or will be starting from scratch as far as advertising and marketing deals in Japan and in the U.S. I imagine Dentsu will be the lead agency representing sasaki in that regard. As for where sasaki will go, it is ALL speculation on the part of league executives, pundits, and bloggers. Just as it was with ohtani and yamamoto, they keep their decision making very close to the chest and don't leak a word. Remember, ohtani's agent asked that teams refrain from commenting during ohtani's free agency courting and Dodgers fans reasonably freaked when Roberts couldn't keep his trap shut. So, privacy is a big thing for high profile stars from Japan when it comes to negotiations or in this case, free agency. All we know, through his agent is, that geography will not be the deciding factor in his decision. Ohtani made clear he wanted to be on a west coast team which eliminated half the league. That is why I believe, unless sasaki's camp provides more information once he is posted as to which factors are important, this process may be lengthy because every team will think they have a shot.
The key word is in the last sentence of this comment. Every team will THINK they have chance. In reality it is highly possible he made up his mind years ago. In fact he wanted to come last year when Yamamoto came but his team refused to post him and this caused tension between them to the point they agreed to post him this year. It’s his team’s choice WHEN he gets posted because THEY get the posting proceeds. The decision to post January 15 benefits them. He is foregoing a fat contract by coming 2 years early. We also know he’s competitive. He pitched a perfect game and 8 perfect innings for a team that never wins anything. He’s tired of that. He wants to win. He will go where he has the best opportunity to win during his 6 years before hitting free agency.
If Roki was planning on going to another team, I would think his agent wouldn’t really address the issue. Why would he? He can just sit and watch as Roki goes to another team and that would shut them up. I think he addressed it because Roki made up his mind to go to the Dodgers. Plus, if Roki is coming early, leaving a lot of money on the table, I would think he would care about his health the most because he’s taking all the risk. And if so, why wouldn’t he choose the Dodgers who are setting themselves up with 6 man rotation and has abundance of resources?
I think the Dodgers also present him with the most lucrative outside marketing opportunities because they already have 2 Japanese players that are using marketing outside of their baseball contracts there.
@@randallmarsh1187 Supposedly, Senga made more money than Yamamoto from endorsements last season. Wonder if that’s because Senga has been in mlb longer so he’s had more opportunities and/or are most companies offering endorsements to the Dodgers mainly focused on Ohtani?
@@asianbeowulf4276 - I’m not sure where you’ve gotten your information about endorsements, but I do know that Yamamoto (only) received $5M in 2024 endorsements. I can’t find any info on Senga.
@@jsa790 Because Japan has a league? so does the DR and other Latin countries, I am still. not following your logic on that one. TO DATE - There is no difference in international players (from Asian and Latin countries). All in the same pool structure. And teams aren't supposed to have handshake deals. But if teams do and nothing is enforced by the MLB then it is not an enforceable rule. And a handshake deal with Roki is no different than a handshake deal with another international player. And since Skenes is not an international player your logic does not apply to what the rules are and how they are enforced to date.
manfred already said it would enforced. the pool structure is irrelevant, that’s just the monetary aspect. you need to focus on the posting system. there are strong measures in the posting system to prevent tampering.
@@gramfarmer IIRC there’s a closely-negotiated, highly-structured agreement specifically governing posting, timelines, etc. between MLB & the Japanese league (NPB?). I don’t know if that’s true with other foreign leagues.
The league aspect of NPB is important because it’s tampering. If you have a handshake deal with a 12 year old, that maybe questionable ethical practices, but it’s not tampering. Conversely, teams cannot have a handshake agreement with Kyle Tucker a year before he becomes a free agent because it’s tampering.
Off topic. Snell needs to develop a pitch to induce more grounders and double play balls to reduce his pitch counts . Betts second baseman glove looked a little too small in the fingers area last year. He might need to add a couple inches to the leather at the finger tips . I'd rest all the guys that took on the biggest load last year in the late season especially to begin the 25 season. And periodically with the entire roster I'd give them steady two, three week breaks intemittently throughout the seasons whether the season is ongoing or between seasons . And I'd increase intermittent rest periods in individual cases to a month ,months, year, or longer, to stimulate healing and recalibration in flaws mechanically, or learning to relearning knowledge of how to pitch ,and redeveloping new techniques. Based on a case by case analysis. I'd want to delay the start of Shohei's, Mookie's, and Freddie's opening debut for two months if possible. At least a month or 1.5 months Along with Smith too because of their importance offensively and shouldering the heaviest loads. With the extra month of play compounded with the added stress factors, leaves LA at a disadvantage heading into the 2025 season. They really need an extra 1.5 -2.0 months off as extra offseason time to recuperate after pulling an extra month of duty at such a late stage in the season. The bullpen has a few areas where the high innings relief options need a later start to the season based on workloads and pitching 50-60 innings or more . Most of the players won't be needed to delay starting on opening day because they started late in August like Edman. Others had sufficient rest periods on the IL until after the all star break. But during every season they should all recieve long intermittent resting periods for recovery and reset through recalibration physically ,mentally, and or spiritually. This is the latest science. This has never been implemented in baseball history previously. A minimum of a week or two weeks especially is recommended to keep all the players fresher and rotate them periodically for better metabolic function. Army Mike has spoken.
