According to Canva, you cannot use any elements to create a logo for your business. However, as long as you create a unique one by combining basic shapes and text, it should be fine. Please refer to Canva's guidelines while doing so. A quick excerpt from their website: "Non-exclusive logos cannot be trademarked. This was a good video until the end- if you can’t trademark the logo, what can you even use it for? This is like a tutorial for logo design practice but not how to actually make a usable one yourself.

Hi goodafternoon maam Thank you so much for sharing this CANVA TUTORIAL VIDEOS, I always watch to learn more about your teachings because I want to learn perfectly how to use canva features for my personal bussiness. Thank you so much and see you again
Oh my gosh I'm so oooo excited to get started. I'm trying to create a logo for my business selling mushrooms. It's called MOMS Mushrooms and stands for Michigan Organic Mushroom Supplier. Question for you. Do you think I should drop the word Mushroom and just go with MOMS in all caps?
Hey! No, you can’t use any of the elements to create a logo apart from creating something original with basic shapes and fonts. A logo with elements would not be eligible for a trademark since you don’t own the copyright to all the individual elements. (Please remember that I’m not a lawyer and it’s best to contact a licensed professional and the Canva support to clarify any doubts.)
I want to know how I can trademark my logos from Canva? You said that "I can't trademark stock elements", so is there any way that I can do that? I would imagine that there are more people trying to get a business going with this platform rather than there being a majority of dabblers with no entrepreneurial direction?
Hi Natalia, I am so enthralled with your videos, that I have been binge watching while recuperating from cancer treatment complications for the past two weeks. I am having so much fun, I feel like a child with a new toy. I want to create a logo for our Latin Band using our guitars as inspirations for Business Cards. Any ideas? I am a little hesitant due to the legality issues, as others have expressed.
Hi, I'm planning to make an account in fiverr. But I'm a new user of canva. What do you suggest, should I go for it or not. Is the market saturated enough that I won't be able to find clients?
Hi Rubab! I always say go for it ✨ As long as you have a good strategy, constantly improve your skills, solve problems and know what your clients want, then there will always be a place for new freelancers or businesses. All the best!
i like you design.but how to erase my shape in word Aina.i m always put shape then put my name but the shape still there because i m using phone.not laptop
I'm SO confused about the legality of using canva images in logos. Everyone seems to be doing it, but it specifically says on their user agreement: use any of the Stock Media as part of a trade-mark, design-mark, trade-name, business name, service mark, or logo is prohibited. Isn't creating your brand like the whole point of using Canva though?
The thing is, many people use the logos unofficially on non-commercial projects or design logos within Canva by combining generic elements to create new interesting shapes or play around with the fonts this way. The second one makes it an original logo and doesn't break the rules. But I completely understand your point and that's why I said you cannot trademark any logos created in Canva. I've decided to create my logo off the platform altogether for that particular reason.
I’ve changed it to white to emphasize that I’m downloading without the background and because previously you had to have white color set for the background to work as a transparent png. When it comes to other colors, it’s always good to have variants of your logo to work for different color combinations and use cases.
Lovely video, thank you. I saved my logo as an svg file. When I go to my downloads, its says Chrome HTML Document. I dont know what to do. I can not use it. I was wanting to use my logo on business cards, my website, and as my laptop background. The PNG version didnt look good as a background. Please help.
You’re very welcome Dawn and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it! The reason it shows as a Chrome HTML document is because that’s the default program that can open the svg vector logo on your device. An SVG file is great for using it on a website but I’d say for other designs like business cards a PNG can be more useful. That being said, you can easily upload your SVG logo to your website and drag the file into Canva as well to design with it. Canva will recognize the vector as an image and you can design business cards or a laptop background with it. May I ask why the PNG version doesn’t look good? If it’s the quality, it’s most likely because the original design size is too small. Usually making the original design much bigger and then downloading again solves the issue.
@@NataliaKalinska I was able to get the png file on my background. The problem is when I try to change the color of by background the logo is inside a white box. I want the entire background to be one color. I tried clicking transparent on Canva thinking that it would make that white box see through, but it just makes it black. Regarding the svg file, when i click on it, it opens another window with other options to use to open the file. I dont know what to do.
So if elements can’t be used in a brand how can find something that can be used legally? Is this option best for temporary promotions that change over time? I am trying to create a logo for my music and create album art for my upcoming singles. Thanks
I read a comment like mine and went to search for the font I am using in one design. Looks like I have to buy the right to use it which looks to possibly be about 60 bucks. Not sure if that’s lifetime use or what. A follow up question would be which fonts are free and legal to use for your brand!?
I have finished designing my logos of canvas free version and downloaded them as png formate but I couldn't use them on any other websites "it shows there are an error in your images". plus there are watermarks that impossible to remove from the images . what I can do? anyway, I don't think canva is a good option for designing logos as a business, am I right?
I’m not sure what the error is about so I’d reach out to the Canva support team. When it comes to the watermarks, it means you’ve used Pro elements which you need to pay for if you don’t have Canva Pro. I’ve talked from the Canva team since recording this video so I highly recommend you read the pinned comment under this video. Basically, you can’t use any free or Pro elements if you’re creating a logo unless they are basic shapes like circles, rectangles, lines etc. If you’re very crafty, you can combine them into an original logo, but I do agree now, definitely not the best app to use for professional logo design. Much better to go for Adobe Illustrator.
Good tutorial, but I wouldn't really be able to actually trademark it as mine because of the element used. Is there a way to make original logos or templates?
Only by stacking and combining generic shapes like circles, rectangles, lines etc. If you have a graphic tablet, you could also use the new draw tool, but it’s not a perfect function yet. Basically, it’s really tough to create original logos in Canva as of now. I think it really lacks the tools that are needed for this kind of work.
As long as you create a unique one, it should be fine. But please refer to Canva's guidelines while doing so. A quick excerpt from their website: "Non-exclusive logos cannot be trademarked. If you intend to trademark your logo, use only elements that you’ve created yourself or commissioned directly. Hi Natalia. I love your Canva tutorials and they have gotten me into graphic design. So, I have a question. Is the logo you designed in the vid considered legal for use/trademark/copyright? If not, would you have to use something else or alternatively do some really heavy modification on the used element? I am just confused on the whole legaility thing since I see stuff using Canva pics and elements all the time on freelance sites.
Hi Joseph, I'm so happy you're enjoying the videos! 🙌 You wouldn't be able to trademark the logo in this video because of the element used. If you were to use it for a business or trademark it, this element could not be a part of the design in any capacity. You'd have use a unique element that you designed or combine some generic shapes like circles, rectangles etc. to form a completely unique symbol. I have yet to receive a response from Canva about the legality of using and creating logos in Canva, but there is a bit in their license that says: "A trademark has to be a unique symbol. For that reason, you can't use Free or Pro content as part of a trademark, design mark, trade name, business name, service mark, or logo. Our logo templates are for inspiration - a starting point for your own unique design."
There are a few things you can do! 🙌 First of all, make sure to always start with a high resolution and since you're having issues with blurry downloads, I'd go much higher than in this video. If you have a Pro account, you can always use a Resize option or increase the Size (x2, x3 etc.) while downloading. If this doesn't seem to be the problem, please make sure to always download the designs as PNG files which are higher quality than JPGs. If you still have issues with blurriness, I'd export the image as PDF Print (the highest quality!) and then convert it into a PNG file using a free online converter like pdf2png or convertio. Hope it helps, Melanie!
Is the transparent background necessary? What's the point of making it colored if you have to change it to transparent? Instead of the pink you chose why not just make it white then? This is so confusing lol.
Logos don’t exist in a vacuum and are usually accompanied by other branding elements, colors included. That’s why I went for some variety to present the logo in the context. However, if you’re placing a logo on a website, in emails, on products, even on social media post, it’s better to have the transparent background version to incorporate it into designs more easily. This way, it doesn’t compete with the surroundings. Even when a website for this logo is pink, I’d still opt for the transparency. But I need to take that into consideration when designing, hence the light, dark and transparent versions. I hope that clarifies things for you!

I live in the UK so the British spelling is what I’m used to! But I agree, spellchecking could be a useful feature in Canva.
But customer want 5000*50000 pixel image, is this available in canva?
Unfortunately not, I believe it’s up to 6000px on a longer edge!
Obrigado!
De nada, Maryo! I'm so glad you've enjoyed it 😊
I create a logo using canva on my phone but I can't use it any of photos

When you have your design on your phone, you can go to another design within Canva, click the plus sign on your phone, then swipe left until you get to folders. Then choose All your Designs and select the logo design. This adds this design to your new image. Not sure if that's what you're looking for!
ok i will do it.. thanks dear
