First, thanks for the tour mate, I haven't been in Batley town centre for a LONG time, but I can tell from the video it's unrecognisable from when I was thre 40 years ago. Favourite memories: the magnificent Library; hustle & bustle of the Market; dropping off film for developing at the chemist near the market or next to Woolies; Woolies for the Top 40 records and the PickNMix; Hillards; Howden's newsagents for my custom car and bodybuilding mags (still got most of them!); Whaley's optician's (I can still smell the nice cleaning fluids), and of course eating ice cream in the memorial park after a hard day's shopping.😊
Had my left ear pierced there about 1980!.. And my Mum bought me a lovely watch from there a few years later for my 19th birthday but sadly lost it in a fight outside the Exclusiv nightclub. It was mental back then - Lots of fights when the pubs were throwing out! But also happy, memorable days too!
I had a Saturday job at that Woolworths in 1983... Just before I left school. Such a shame Woolworths went out of business and equally such a shame Batley and Dewsbury have totally gone to the dogs... Half the shops boarded up now. Tragic... I haven't lived there since mid 90's but a shadow of its former self.... Also Skippers Jewellers... Had my left ear pierced there about 1980!.. And my Mum bought me a lovely watch from there a few years later for my 19th birthday but sadly lost it in a fight outside the Xclusiv nightclub. It was mental back then - Lots of fights when the pubs were throwing out! But also happy, memorable days too!

Wow brilliant memories. I'm glad I jogged some of them for you 👍🏻
Think you might be a bit older than me, but I do remember most of what you mentioned. I’m as old as decimal money!
Oh my word! Skippers Jewellers has gone. I remember that being there when I was a kid.
A lot of it has gone unfortunately

Yes I did say that in a later video. I haven't done homework since 1985 but at least my grammar was correct...

Remember Hillards well. Weekly shop there and the Star Wars models bought there. 👍🏻
