Near the top of my bucket list - I'd have a blast riding through Big Sur PCH on my 2012 VStrom 650 ABS. Can't wait to see the rest of this part of the trip.

Which windshield did you buy, and is the wind buffeting okay at high speeds? Thanks!

In addition to the mentioned, an interesting option for a big ADV tourer might be HD Panamerica Special and Supertenere

Nice video, It always shocks me the low traffic is on HW1 in many sections, especially on the the North Coast. As the owner of a 2017 V-Strom 650 I understand the great job it does as a touring bike. I have thought about upgrading to a larger displacement adventure bike in the future. The bikes you listed are on my list too. I really want to see the new KTM 1290 Adventure S. At 5' 8" I look forward to the lower seat. I hoping the US gets them next year. Having seen and sat on a HD Pan American It's on my list of future bikes to test. For me the only reason to go bigger is to get my wife on my motorcycle trips. I feel the 650 is slightly under powered for 2-up riding.

Yes a more powerful bike will be more enjoyable and provide better safety in emergency situations. I don’t know if I consider 5’8” short but lowered versions of bikes tend to be left over and therefore discounted. The bmw GS/GSA 1250 and triumph tiger 900 GT come in lowered suspension versions. Other bikes to consider are the new Yamaha tracer GT, versys 1000, and bmw rt 1250. And yes I love the new adventure S, ktm does not get hit with a tariff like triumph and bmw in the US.

I know you previously talked about the 650 vs the 1000 and why you picked the 650, but my question is if given the choice on picking up a 2nd gen 1000 (2014-2019) or a 2017+ 650, which would you pick? Found some in my area for about the same price...
No intention on offroading, just around town, commuting, and freeway use. Got my DR650 for the offroad fun!

If you are 6 feet tall or over I recommend the dl1000 2016-2019. In 2016 the ecu was updated. You already have a 650 so unless you’re super short I would change it up and get the 1000.

Try checking if wifi/bt is off, that increases greatly batt life. Cheers.

Nice ride. Any chance you can name the musical artists at the end of your vids? And it's okay if you ramble on...it's why I like your videos.
