    Thanks!! We are going to be driving to Andorra in early September. Now planning on taking this route vs tunnel.

    I have been up there a couple times, indeed the sight from the top of Port d'Envalira is really beautiful, but the last part between El Pas and the summit is very dangerous due to its steep grades, tight hairpins and often heavy traffic...
    There is also a large gravel path starting up there, that can take you even further up through Coll Blanc (2500m) and then to the summit of Pic Blanc (2650m), but by foot only. It is not hard and does not require equipment, but due to the altitude it is quite exhausting...
    Since I come from France the ascent is very long, more than 30 kms, and in fact it's a double ascent as you also climb Col de Puymorens (1915m) along the way.
    Fun fact, due to the altitude it's built at, El Pas de la Casa is one of the highest cities in Europe if not the highest, and the coldest one in Andorra (don't even think about wearing shorts here, as even in summer temperatures barely reach 20 degrees during sunny afternoons, and can drop as low as 5-6 degrees by night and early in the morning, not to mention it's very windy xD)

    How fast are you actually driving ?? - it seems to me to be way more than the 30 km the signs allow for ??

    • @RoadsofEuropeverreme
      @RoadsofEuropeverreme  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, if I remember correctly this video was sped up about 2.5x. You can drive 30 on the hairpins and 90 on the straights. I don't remember driving faster than that since I would have cooked the brakes.

      @@RoadsofEuropeverreme Thanks for answering :-)
      It' sounds like here in the French part of the Pyrenees - even I don't remember the intermissions of 30 km/h :-)
      it's just that it looked aweful fast when you was driving.
      But I suppose it always looks faster when other people are driving :-)
      I can sneak up to 60 km/h when going good, that's all - never 90 :-)
      AND it's harder going downwards than upwards, right ??

    • @RoadsofEuropeverreme
      @RoadsofEuropeverreme  3 роки тому

      Nowadays I don't speed videos that much, especially those featuring winding roads. Port d'Envalira has wide straights where you can easily reach 90 km/h but you must watch your speed downhill because slowing down takes longer.

      Hi, the video is sped up between 2.5 and 3x and this is why it sounds like this. I was driving an ordinary car.

      You can drive via France but there's even more traffic. Take C-25 via Manresa and Vic.

      I'm driving a "normal" car (Opel Astra 1.6). Sound is a bit weird because the video is sped up, and in this case there's a low-pass filter because we were talking inside the car and I didn't want it to be heard :)

    You can drive at 2802m of altitude in the Alps. Go to Cime de la Bonnette-Restefond. The beginning of the climb is in Jausiers (France).

    Plenty of higher passes in French Alps. Less touristy and commercial. Beautiful nature. You can do more then one in a day if you want . Also coll Angel between France and Italy. Stelvio in Italy is also beautiful. Very touristy but unique.

    Siempre me habian dicho que era un puerto jodido y tal... Lo he hecho varias veces y la verdad, no tiene nada... Son todas las curvas iguales y se puede ir bastante rapido. Antes de hacerlo me esperaba algo como el rat penat de port ginesta a olivella, y que va... De hecho las cuestas no es que sean nada del otro mundo. Es mas, diria que al salir de Encamp hay mas pendiente

      Hay muchas horquillas pero la carretera es muy ancha. El único problema es que debido a la altitud es frecuente encontrar nieve.

    La vez que pasé por ahí me hizo gracia que la subida de ese puerto está limitada a 90 km/h, cuando en absolutamente todo el país el límite es 60 km/h.

    • @RoadsofEuropeverreme
      @RoadsofEuropeverreme  6 років тому

      Efectivamente en la inmensa mayoría de carreteras andorranas el límite de velocidad es como mucho 60 km/h, excepto en el túnel d'Envalira (70) y en el túnel de las Dos Valires (80), además del mencionado puerto.
