Well in Jaune's case, he was suspicious of the Cat by the time the Cat probably tried with him, his suspicion and drive to keep waiting for Team RWBY, plus his unhealthy connection to the paper pleasers probably protected him.
A pity that Team RWBY didn't learn THEIR lesson, with how their entire arc of grappling with their mistakes turned out to be nothing but an ignored epiphany.

When the Jabberwalker attacks in Chapter 5, they suddenly become a lot less cryptic and more direct in what they say. Not to mention they casually "repurpose" a fellow Afteran to fend off the Jabberwalker; granted, RWBY needed time, but in the heat of the moment it's easy to overlook that someone had their free will overridden by the Cat. And what's more, the Cat interrupts Ruby's meeting with the Blacksmith because she was trying to help her.
Imagine my laughing and enjoyment when Curious Neo couldnt pass the door. When CC saved Ruby from Herb's treatment I thought CC saved her but in the end Herb wanted to give confrontation she needed but it was more aggresive and direct than Blacksmith Lady's🤔
It just now occurred to me, I saw a video where so many people were complaining that Ruby's teammates weren't paying close attention to Ruby's depression in the comments, and I just now realized that in addition to the standard reasons why people close to you might not see how bad your depression might be, but the cat was also keeping the team off balance. He made them focus on him with the non-stop questions, acted like the perfect guide for them and then leaves without a trace, and led them to situations that constantly separated the team (the Herbalist, the ingredient search for the parfait, the punderstorm, etc). In addition to that, it actually struck me as odd that Ruby seemed a bit better when the team was squaring off against the Red Prince. She seemed far more sure of herself in that moment. Then the cat comes fully into the story.
RWBY's always been pretty good at foreshadowing these things. It is similar to Raven's reveal in Volume 5, they put in enough little hints but are never in your face about it, still leading to a surprise but when you look back you can easily go "it makes sense!"

I mean, it would be obvious Salem has some type of immortality given Ozpin has said he and Salem has been at odds for a very long time. Unfortunately everyone didn't really care to think properly.

It makes you wonder if Ruby would have been better off if the Cat didn't stop Herb. Sure in the moment it seemed bad, but we didn't know the full picture. For all we know this could have just been more therapy cut off before the trip could get to the core of Ruby's real problems.

That's not very weird at all unless you just don't watch much anime. There are lots of anime voice actors, for both Japanese and English dubs, who have voiced similar roles on multiple occasions. Plus, "RWBY" (aside from "Ice Queendom") isn't technically an anime in the first place. :P

I knew the cat up to something from the beginning. Since he is the RWBY version of the treasure cat from Alice in wonderland, I knew almost immediately that I don’t trust the cat.

I think personally the Curious Cat wasn't always bad: think the combination of a broken promise and also his curse of curiosity kind of ended up twisting him up inside, the curiosity turns into a NEED, an obsession about what lies beyond.
Considering Jaune must've met Alyx not long before, after, or at the same time as the cat, he wouldn't have time to really influence her enough for Jaune not to notice something was up, clearly she's always been a cruel dick and the Ever After only allowed her bad traits to worsen, she's gotten even worse after her intrusive thoughts gave her a pep talk through the mystical zaza and made her paranoid of everyone

Perhaps he was going to attack her the moment Lewis stepped through the doorway. I'm probably wrong, but I really feel like Ruby was a parallel to Alyx and Alyx was more misunderstood than outright wicked. Of course there isn't enough clarity around either the fairy tale or what actually happened, outside what Jaune said. I want to trust Jaune's judgment but it is always possible Curious had his own sinister machinations even at that time.

Having seen the final ep, why the Brothers made the Cat and what the Cat USED TO BE like before they went mad... Nah. The Brothers just abandoned the Cat because the Brothers were negligent, childish dicks who didn't think anything through and who (rather like RWBY in the last several volumes) didn't take any responsibility for their mistakes which led them to repeat them.
I'm guessing the cat is like salems soul or mortality when gods cursed her to live forever. It's stuck in ever after as way to keep her cursed. That's my opinion. Also you see when cat gets angry eyes go all black an d white like grim.
I know it was right before jaune revealed to us not to trust the cat, but he didn't seem to care at all or mention the bird guy he forced to help him fight the jabberwalkers who got eaten, but neither did team rwby so y'know
Feeding on the fear and insecurities of someone's mind especially when the mind in question is about to break because of everything that has happened so far since you have got to remember that being a hero comes with a lot of risks like even if you want to save everyone, you can't as that is a lot to take in on a person and right now, Ruby is feeling the full force of that reality check throughout this entire volume.
I know they're in different universes, but if the cat wants to know everything, I can totally imagine him trying to steal the Krabby Patty formula. That would be hilarious.
if u kinda think about it.. ozpin and the curious cat both have similar powers.. as in like the whole reincarnation thing.. only thing is that curious cat needs a host and possesses while being alive.. while ozpin needs a host and possesses while being dead..
The Cat is, for me, one of the most wholly sympathetic villains the show has churned out, and I think it helps that the Cat has a MUCH lower rap sheet than the show's other big hitters: the Cat didn't commit multiple genocides or kill their own children in a hissy fit that wasn't directed at them, nor did they create the Hound; the Cat wasn't a total psychopathic bitch who kills people's loved ones right in front of them purely for jollies. The Cat only committed a handful of attempted murders, three body-jackings or attempted body-jackings, psychological manipulation, and one successful "crime of passion" homicide (Alyx), and that's all. Certainly a smaller rap sheet than the other villains, including Neo. :P Which for me, makes the Cat a lot more sympathetic, because they haven't committed so many wanton and evil acts that would outweight or whittle down the pity and sympathy that their tragedy earns them.
It would have been very interesting to see CC get to Remnant and become the true threat. Wanting to get revenge on his creators, those false god brothers. Usurping Salem’s rule and perhaps use Djinn to get more knowledge (1 question remains). Forcing Salem to join forces with Team Ruby. Perhaps reconcile with Ozpin and eventually they both pass on together. Leaving Oscar to be his own person again.
There aren't any questions left. Jinn said she had two left when Ruby first called her out; one was used to learn about Salem and Ozpin's origins, and Cinder used the other to know what Ruby's plan to save Atlas/Mantle was.
Die a hero or live long enough to be the villain. To be the fair, the God Brother started this mess and Alyx pushed the Cat over the edge. Subjectively speaking, "good guy", good people, or even hero do sh*tty things that justify the villain being a villain. People praise heroes, but if the hero is responsible for creating the very villain that they stopped, doesn't the make the hero the actual culprit for starting this whole chain of events and the villain a victim of the hero?
Another thing to note is that the cat was the most scared of the jabbawalker since team RWBY were always ready to throw hands when one showed up, only fearing it when the cat explains it's all too effectively erase you Given how much fear he showed for them as well as karma for forcing others to die to them it was clear that he'd die to them eventually
Also the Cat interrupted Herbs work at the exact right moment. The conversation between Ruby and her past self was likely going to progress into Ruby having a better idea of who she is and what she wanted to become, even if it wasn’t a huntress. Granted her process would’ve taken longer because of her despair. But at the moment the Cat jumped in, she was at the lowest point of the conversation.

Not to mention that, when you think about it, the Cat being abandoned by the Brothers and not understanding why is like a real cat being abandoned by their owner and not understanding why. ("They act like they love you, and they act like they'll be there forever, and then one day they'll pack all their stuff and move away AND TAKE THEIR LOVE WITH THEM! [...] They leave her... wondering... what she did wrong." - Mittens, Bolt) Yeah, I felt a lot more sorry for the Cat than I did for the horrible, mass-murdering narcissists that Team RWBY have turned into since they left Beacon.
Same. Although with how unsympathetic Team RWBY became after their ignored epiphany in this volume, I don't think I'd mind anymore if the Cat DID kill them, sparing Remnant from having to suffer any more of Team RWBY's kingdom-destroying, people-dividing, tautological-templaring incompetence.
Disclaimer: I'm not a religious nut trying to convert you all to my religious views (I can't stand those people!). I'm just using it to make this comparison. So Don't take it the wrong way. A thought just occurred to me. What if the Curious Cat is the RWBY equivalent of The Devil? I know what you're going to say 'Doesn't the God of Darkness take that title?' That is somewhat true, but here's the thing despite creating the Grimm and other things, The God of Darkness is pretty much neutral, only acting out when offended or provoked. The Curious Cat however is actively going out leading people astray, gaslighting them, manipulating them, and wearing them down, so he can possess them. He also shows some distain for the Gods for living him. Even when he possesses Neo at the end of the episode, it is akin to demonic possession in some cultures and media. Another food for thought, Lucifer wasn't a God before he became The Devil. He was an angel, and angels were created by God. The Gods created The Curious Cat. God cursed Lucifer The Gods cursed The Curious Cat The Gods (Mainly the God of Light) Cursed Ozpin. Come to think of it, The Curious Cat could be akin to The Anti-Christ as well.
Yeah, that's called a Satanic Archetype. I think Salem and the Curious Cat are the main Devils of Remnant. I think a few 'RWBY' characters fit this archetype, but I always thought the God of Darkness was the LEAST Satanic, for the reasons you described - for me, he's more like Hades from Greek mythology, or yin-yang embodied in a pair of deities, or the modern pop-cultural idea of the Anti-God. Salem was a once-beautiful member of a people who the Gods created before the current human race, and she led a rebellion against the Gods out of arrogance and suffered the consequences - she even literally FALLS from the heavens when the God of Light teleports her to his domain's pools to curse her with immortality. She lost her beauty, transformed into the black-and-red themed supreme ruler of legions of all evil monsters in Remnant (Grimm). She manipulates humans into selling their lives away to her service by convincing them she can give them what she wants, she's been in an eternal war against the Big Good for the fate of the world (I guess you could say Ozma/Ozpin is Jesus, or alternatively Ozma is "what if Jesus didn't return to his father's side and stayed down here with us?"). I also think the Cat qualifies as a Satanic archetype for the reasons you described, and more. Like the Devil, the Cat was created before humanity, and resents us much like an older sibling feeling cast aside by their parents favouring the new baby (I know the Cat's feelings are a LOT more complex and tragic than a childhood spat, but the analogy's still there). The Cat has been locked away in another realm (one which is "down" from Remnant as well, with how humans from Remnant get into the Ever After by "falling" from the interdimensional space that Ambrosius opened the portals through), since the dawn of time, and they want to escape; even if the Cat is only trapped due to the Brothers being negligent fucks rather than because the Brothers deliberately imprisoned the Cat. The Cat is also light-themed, like Lucifer the Light Bringer/the fallen archangel in modern pop culture. The Cat takes fair and unseemly form to deceive the humans they gaslight, then once the cat's out of the bag (HA!) they take on a more monstrous form. However, unlike the Devil and Salem, who were both cursed by their divine makers and fell AFTER they lashed out in hubris, the Cat was created flawed and then abandoned, due to a lack of forethought on their makers' part. In my mind, the Cat is much more a victim of the Brothers' mistakes.
While RT is a coporation I would rather see crash burn and die in horrible suffering with all the employee mistreatment they've got going on I can't appreciate enough the work CRWBY and all the animators have been putting in. The voice acting is better then ever and Ruby's character arc is (painfully) relatable. At this point I wish the RWBY team could just break away from the shitplace that is RT and do their own thing independently
V9 started out good, but then those last two episodes completely TORCHED all the progress the volume was making towards redeeming the show. The animation and soundtrack remain among the show's few redeeming qualities to the end, though.
The volume for me started out GREAT and came very close to redeeming 'RWBY'... but then in the last two episodes, they torched and ruined EVERYTHING. :( One thing I can honestly say is that I'm not gonna watch V10 after this failure - I might up the plot on the wiki after it airs, but that's it.

I'm guessing the cat is like salems soul or mortality when gods cursed her to live forever. It's stuck in ever after as way to keep her cursed. That's my opinion. Also you see when cat gets angry eyes go all black an d white like grim.

Feeding on the fear and insecurities of someone's mind especially when the mind in question is about to break because of everything that has happened so far since you have got to remember that being a hero comes with a lot of risks like even if you want to save everyone, you can't as that is a lot to take in on a person and right now, Ruby is feeling the full force of that reality check throughout this entire volume.

The bigger foreshadowing for me was him being voiced by Robbie Daymond. As a Persona 5 and guilty gear enjoyer, that already made me distrust him

The Cat is, for me, one of the most wholly sympathetic villains the show has churned out, and I think it helps that the Cat has a MUCH lower rap sheet than the show's other big hitters: the Cat didn't commit multiple genocides or kill their own children in a hissy fit that wasn't directed at them, nor did they create the Hound; the Cat wasn't a total psychopathic bitch who kills people's loved ones right in front of them purely for jollies. The Cat only committed a handful of attempted murders, three body-jackings or attempted body-jackings, psychological manipulation, and one successful "crime of passion" homicide (Alyx), and that's all. Certainly a smaller rap sheet than the other villains, including Neo. :P Which for me, makes the Cat a lot more sympathetic, because they haven't committed so many wanton and evil acts that would outweight or whittle down the pity and sympathy that their tragedy earns them.

It would have been very interesting to see CC get to Remnant and become the true threat. Wanting to get revenge on his creators, those false god brothers. Usurping Salem’s rule and perhaps use Djinn to get more knowledge (1 question remains). Forcing Salem to join forces with Team Ruby. Perhaps reconcile with Ozpin and eventually they both pass on together. Leaving Oscar to be his own person again.
There aren't any questions left. Jinn said she had two left when Ruby first called her out; one was used to learn about Salem and Ozpin's origins, and Cinder used the other to know what Ruby's plan to save Atlas/Mantle was.
I was kinda sad about how it ended. I had hoped he could be a good guy.

To be the fair, the God Brother started this mess and Alyx pushed the Cat over the edge. Subjectively speaking, "good guy", good people, or even hero do sh*tty things that justify the villain being a villain.
People praise heroes, but if the hero is responsible for creating the very villain that they stopped, doesn't the make the hero the actual culprit for starting this whole chain of events and the villain a victim of the hero?

Also the Cat interrupted Herbs work at the exact right moment. The conversation between Ruby and her past self was likely going to progress into Ruby having a better idea of who she is and what she wanted to become, even if it wasn’t a huntress. Granted her process would’ve taken longer because of her despair.
But at the moment the Cat jumped in, she was at the lowest point of the conversation.

Same. Although with how unsympathetic Team RWBY became after their ignored epiphany in this volume, I don't think I'd mind anymore if the Cat DID kill them, sparing Remnant from having to suffer any more of Team RWBY's kingdom-destroying, people-dividing, tautological-templaring incompetence.

A thought just occurred to me. What if the Curious Cat is the RWBY equivalent of The Devil? I know what you're going to say 'Doesn't the God of Darkness take that title?'
That is somewhat true, but here's the thing despite creating the Grimm and other things, The God of Darkness is pretty much neutral, only acting out when offended or provoked.
The Curious Cat however is actively going out leading people astray, gaslighting them, manipulating them, and wearing them down, so he can possess them. He also shows some distain for the Gods for living him.
Even when he possesses Neo at the end of the episode, it is akin to demonic possession in some cultures and media.
Another food for thought, Lucifer wasn't a God before he became The Devil. He was an angel, and angels were created by God.

Yeah, that's called a Satanic Archetype. I think Salem and the Curious Cat are the main Devils of Remnant.
I think a few 'RWBY' characters fit this archetype, but I always thought the God of Darkness was the LEAST Satanic, for the reasons you described - for me, he's more like Hades from Greek mythology, or yin-yang embodied in a pair of deities, or the modern pop-cultural idea of the Anti-God.
Salem was a once-beautiful member of a people who the Gods created before the current human race, and she led a rebellion against the Gods out of arrogance and suffered the consequences - she even literally FALLS from the heavens when the God of Light teleports her to his domain's pools to curse her with immortality. She lost her beauty, transformed into the black-and-red themed supreme ruler of legions of all evil monsters in Remnant (Grimm). She manipulates humans into selling their lives away to her service by convincing them she can give them what she wants, she's been in an eternal war against the Big Good for the fate of the world (I guess you could say Ozma/Ozpin is Jesus, or alternatively Ozma is "what if Jesus didn't return to his father's side and stayed down here with us?").
I also think the Cat qualifies as a Satanic archetype for the reasons you described, and more. Like the Devil, the Cat was created before humanity, and resents us much like an older sibling feeling cast aside by their parents favouring the new baby (I know the Cat's feelings are a LOT more complex and tragic than a childhood spat, but the analogy's still there). The Cat has been locked away in another realm (one which is "down" from Remnant as well, with how humans from Remnant get into the Ever After by "falling" from the interdimensional space that Ambrosius opened the portals through), since the dawn of time, and they want to escape; even if the Cat is only trapped due to the Brothers being negligent fucks rather than because the Brothers deliberately imprisoned the Cat. The Cat is also light-themed, like Lucifer the Light Bringer/the fallen archangel in modern pop culture. The Cat takes fair and unseemly form to deceive the humans they gaslight, then once the cat's out of the bag (HA!) they take on a more monstrous form. However, unlike the Devil and Salem, who were both cursed by their divine makers and fell AFTER they lashed out in hubris, the Cat was created flawed and then abandoned, due to a lack of forethought on their makers' part. In my mind, the Cat is much more a victim of the Brothers' mistakes.
I still don't consider that as them trying to wear her down.

While RT is a coporation I would rather see crash burn and die in horrible suffering with all the employee mistreatment they've got going on I can't appreciate enough the work CRWBY and all the animators have been putting in. The voice acting is better then ever and Ruby's character arc is (painfully) relatable.
At this point I wish the RWBY team could just break away from the shitplace that is RT and do their own thing independently
V9 started out good, but then those last two episodes completely TORCHED all the progress the volume was making towards redeeming the show.
The animation and soundtrack remain among the show's few redeeming qualities to the end, though.
This volume sucked, RT have ran this show into the ground.

The volume for me started out GREAT and came very close to redeeming 'RWBY'... but then in the last two episodes, they torched and ruined EVERYTHING. :(
One thing I can honestly say is that I'm not gonna watch V10 after this failure - I might up the plot on the wiki after it airs, but that's it.
