    I have the same generator. The hardest part is changing the two spark plugs.
    Thanks Don

    Brian, good to see you back making this video. I would add that it is good to run the generator regularly (once a month) at full load for about an hour to keep moisture out of the generator windings.....and keeps all the parts exercised. Hope to see more good stuff like this from you.

    Very good video, Brian. You covered a number of things that I haven't seen covered in similar videos. Liked the chest cam, too - it served its purpose well.

      Thanks Mat! I adjusted the valves a bit and installed new spark plugs as well. Made a world of difference in operation.

    Good video you might check around to find a fuel rated sealant for the threads on that fuel filter that might keep it from backing off

      Excellent point! Permatex Permashield is a good option for that.
      Honestly, I don’t think I got it quite tight enough when I last changed it.
      Thanks for watching!

    Nice video Brian... I had to double check you on the screwing in of the dipstick and of course you are right on. !! Thank you 👍👍 ps... sure have missed you guys.

      👍Onan did have an issue where they installed the wrong dipstick which would cause users to overfill with oil. This would cause a repeated uncommanded shutdowns due to excess pressure in the crankcase. I’ve experienced this, thus the reason why I keep the oil level at half or just above on the dipstick.

    Great content. A couple questions for you. Does your Onan muffler vent down? Since you have a gas coach I’m sure it gets it’s fuel from your coach’s gas tank. If you’re rig is low on gas, will the generator turn off so you’re not stranded without fuel? I’m in the process of purchasing an Onan 5500 propane generatorfor my 5th wheel, so I’m trying to learn everything I can about them. They’re expensive right now and somewhat hard to find without a several month wait. Thanks!

      Hello!
      The exhaust pipe vents horizontal under the rear cap.
      Our coach does shut the generator if the fuel tank is 1/4 full or less.
      The 5500 generators are very reliable. Just keep them well maintained.

    A deep socket might work on tightening that filter

    Brian,
    Do you ever have to add oil in the year between changes ? Also just out of curiosity, what is the longest time you have ever run your Onan?
    Thank in advance and I appreciate the informative video

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Jerry! I typically don’t add any oil between changes. The lowest oil level in 100 hours of operation was about 1/4 the way into the safe zone. I’m guessing that was about 1/2 quart or less.
      The longest we’ve operated the generator continuously was probably 5 hours or so.
      Thanks for watching!

      Like you, about three hours is my longest run time as well. That may change this next week as we will be boondocking in the Phoenix area. Upper 80’s and lower 90’s predicted. I have read accounts where folks have run over 24 hours. I don’t expect anywhere like that but may get close to 4 or 5. We’ll see.
      Thanks again

    You made a comment that the park prohibits all generator use. Is that something that is common?

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  2 роки тому

      Hi Dave and Laura. It is pretty common, especially in parks with full hookups. California is implementing a ban of all portable generators as well.

      @@LyfUninterrupted THX - how do they handle power outages?

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  2 роки тому +1

      Most parks would most certainly allow usage in prolonged emergency situations. One could argue the point if power is needed during short duration power outages.
