  • When many of us think back to the year 2000 we might remember it being the Y2K scare, however for us it was all about the launch of the Toyota Prius, the world’s first mass produced hybrid vehicle with global sales of over 15 million.
    Toyota Canada actually had a right hand drive Prius in 1999 and Graeme did not hesitate to go for a spin.

    My how far we've come in two decades with hybrid, and automotive technology in general. That 2000 Prius seemed so technologically advanced back then, but today, it seems rather crude. Because Toyota did not sell a lot of first generation Prius cars (because I think people were nervous about the new technology and the price), it didn't really get popular until the second gen 2004 Prius, which many people assume was actually the first one. They forget about the sedan body style first gen Prius. I had a 2006 Prius, loved it, such a different driving experience, kind of challenges you to drive as economically as possible. Loved the fuel economy!

      You’re totally right, it’s interesting to see how overlooked this generation of Prius is. Definitely not common in my part of Canada (back then and especially now lol)

      @@braedanhoward3288 I'm in Canada too, on the west coast, where green vehicles are pretty popular, and also lived in Montreal when the first gen Prius was introduced. Small and green cars are popular there too, but never saw many first gen Prius in either place, or really anywhere in Canada - then and especially now.

      I thought Prius was extremely popular when It released to the world market.

    Lol pray-us

      Yeah, it took a while for people to figure out the pronunciation. I used to hear pry-us a lot back then, now we've settled on pre-us.

    It’s not PRAY-US. It is Pree-ius. Can’t believe how ugly cars were back then.

      When a car is just produced their not sure how the names are pronounced lol. Just watch John Davis Motorweek 89 Camry V6 Review He Says Cam-Ray and on the 92 SE he says it correctly lol

      Yeah, I don't know where he got "Pray-us" from, the spelling doesn't really lead you to think that's how it's pronounced. I could see "Pry-us" though. But... "Celica" is pronounced "Cell-ee-kah" in most of the world, and "Cell-ik-ah" in the US, and I've heard "Cressida" pronounced "Creh-see-dah" sometimes though most people would say "Cress-ih-dah" so Toyota likes to create names with the letter "i" that are open to interpretation in regards to pronunciation. 😜😂

    Hi! Would I be able to use a few seconds of your footage for a video I’m working on about Toyota? I’m happy to credit you on-screen and link to your video in my description. Thanks, Cindy

    What a coincidence two of my favorite shows reviews show retro toyotas and both end up saying it pretty weird.

    Funny now the Prius is the highest stolen Catylac converters now, due to less deterioration on them from not using much gas motor

      What about rav 4 and corolla hybrid then?

    • @erniearruda8861
      @erniearruda8861 3 роки тому +2

      Probably also, but the news reports seen on tv is the Prius. But any hybrid the thieves will take. And also trucks, higher vans and suvs are easier to crawl underneath and do a quick cut.
