These are great long distance cruisers. If you keep the vehicle close to stock, you can definitely get EPA or slightly better MPG. The problems is that people have this image of rugged off-road/overland vehicle and start to add bumpers, winches, roof racks, fuel tanks, etc... Then it becomes a dog and fuel economy tanks to the 9-11 mpg range. Same with the Land Cruiser 200/LX570. Drive it stock or add better A/T tires. It will perform just fine. The LC 200/LX570 (~700# heavier than LC 100/LX470 plus a couple of extra gears in the transmission) can definitely get 18-19 mpg on the highway as well with stock size A/T tires. Stock tires (285) on the LC 200 are wider (265) than the LC 100 as well.
You’re absolutely right! As long as you keep your foot out of it and don’t go big on tires, you can get decent few mileage for the size of vehicle that it is !

Just purchased a 1999 LX470 with 147k for $1,000. Needed a battery and the tires were old. Like your find, my LX was a multi millionaire’s elderly mother’s 2nd vehicle. It was garage kept its entire life. Everything was maintained by Lexus and in amazing shape. Even the drivers seat is in great shape since she used a 4” foam mat in order to operate, which kept the seat new.
I have this EXACT same car... A 2000 LX 470 with 245,000 miles. I love the thing, BUT it has only ever been serviced at the dealership and it has had $65,000+ in maintenance and repairs over the course of its life. The routine maintenance and parts failures average about $300-400 per month. Couple that with 11-13 MPG on premium fuel, and you've got a very expensive jalopy. Now, I love the thing and its still sitting in my driveway despite being replaced by a 2022 4Runner TRD PRO, but not recommended for someone without the ability to shell out a lot for repairs, maintenance and running costs. Not something I would recommend to any young person without disposable income.
Why did you go to someone other than the stealership? I have a 2001 Sequoia with 263k, it rarely ever gives me trouble. I see Toyota’s and Lexus vehicles with the 4.7/5.7 V8 going 300k+ pretty frequently and I don’t think a lot of these vehicles were even maintained very well either….

It's build under specific criteria set by the United Nations to last at least 25 years or 500,000 miles with minimum maintenance...... the UN is the #1 buyer of the Toyota Landcruiser/Lexus LX470.....
Just picked up an 06 with 212k miles. No rust anywhere (Southern Truck) Only having to replace arm rest leather. It needs timing belt changed and hood repainted. Other than that, it’s solid. I am a car guy in my 50s and may have just purchased my last one. Looking forward to putting another 200k on this thing!
Great buy Mike! No rust is the most valuable thing that you can get out of one of these! Like I said earlier, you're going to easily get another 200k out of it! If you really take care of it you're going to get another 300k! Congrats!
Same situation here! bought an 04 with 202k at the time... Michigan truck but very limited rust. Previous owner replaced the hydraulic ride height system with LC suspension which I love. It doesn't ride as plush as stock, but I have much more faith in this lasting me another 200k... same age range here as well :) I am replacing catalytic converters in the next coule of weeks which will clear my CEL and then i'm done for a while. Mine is called Sand Dollar Pearl and the paint is phenomenal!

Man.. You got yourself something that's going to last a VERY long time! LX570 are a gem and are probably one of the best models made! They hold incredible value too! Congrats L Bro! You're winning!
I already have the 03 GX470 and a 05 2wd 4th Gen 4Runner. I’m thinking of getting this or the GX460 just watching prices like a hawk right now at time I’m torn between LX/LC or the Prado/GX. The GX slightly more nimble character in tight spaces has been a savior for me. You can say I have a addiction to Yota/Lexus 00’s era.
HAHA At least you're addicted to a quality vehicle! And it all depends on what you plan to do with the vehicle. I would say that the perfect daily driver with incredible off-road capability is the GX. They handle nice.. A little bit quicker and because of the lighter body the fuel mileage is a tad better. LX is just a tank! But you won't lose with either that you buy! I wish you the best.. and Thanks For Watching!
Buick had the first brake traction system in 1971. Range Rovers had the first traction control system on a 4x4 in 1992. Lots of cars use the Electronic Braking Differential today.
It’s basically a Land Crusher decked out with leather and wood. What’s not to like/love? I’ve been trying to convince my daughter and her husband to pick up a Lexus 4x4, because they hold up and don’t break down that often, so what if the gas mileage blows, that’s the price of admission to a tough truck.
Wonderful video and let me say that I own a 200 series land cruiser. The 200 series and the 100 series and of course the Lexus variant are the greatest vehicles that money can buy. There I said it. This is the one that I am really been desiring to own. I have found some very nice premium examples out there. They ride like a dream. They off road they are luxuries and they last and last and last. It needs to be in my Garage its that or the newest LX600
I like your reviews. Well done. That being said there are many, dare I say all manufacturers, that make similar traction control systems where some are better than others (Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Ford). As good as these systems are, nothing beats the actual locker which unfortunately Toyota went away from in 2000 till 2008
Yes, you're definitely right. Nearly every modern car with AWD has that feature or has torque vectoring. But, I meant at that time the car was made (2002). I think only Land Rover and maybe Mercedes had that. Not too sure though. I'll do some research!

i had Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series which is the same car basically. It was a great vehicle, but with 4.7 V8 Gasoline engine and ATR tyres i got 11mpg.
Oh no! lol Man, that's a hard one to think back on! But at least you had the chance to experience a great car! 06' was a great year! Smooth Transmission!
That's a beauty. And, what a deal on the price. I've always loved those vehicles, but I'd be worried about the cost of scheduled maintenance. I bought a used LS 400 back in the early 2000s and every trip to the dealer was costly.
You're right with that Karl. Lexus service is very expensive! I would say that you definitely want to be somewhat mechanically inclined... like knowing how to change your own starter or alternator. If you know that then the only thing you'll have to bring it in for is the timing belt. If you do that they'll last forever! Thanks again for watching Karl!
You're looking in the right direction! The great thing about these is that you can use these a plush daily driver... extreme off-road vehicle... or both! Plus they hold incredible value!
I am certain my 1999 Mercedes ML with ESP works the way you describe to limit wheel spin and deliver traction to the other wheel(s). The LX is a wonderful vehicle and my Mercedes is going strong with 177,000 miles. I've taken it to some rugged backcountry here in Oregon. Thanks for the video.

12-13mpg is expected but wish it was better, especially with the premium fuel it deserves. My Grand Cherokee 4X4 w/5.9 got 2-3mpg better but not nearly the build quality of my 2000 LX.
This one is a freak, it gets around 20mpg hwy. I have another one that I'll bring to the soon that's lifted and has all the goodies and that one gets about 17hwy. It all depends on how you drive them and the size tires you have on them . Plus how well you maintenance them! Thanks for watching!
I know weirdly it's one of my favorite things about these ''classic'' Lexus! It's a constant reminder that you're driving something built with high standard!
@@reviewedbytim Haha yeah I can send you videos and pictures of the aftermath. We also fell off a cliff in Gatlinburg during heavy snow, nothing really happened except both my front and rear bumper were broken and the lights. No structural or body damage, replaced the reinforced bar upfront and got new bumpers/lights was good to go. When the wrecker got us out I thought my car was done, funnily I drove it all the back to FL that same day. My wife and I had to cut part of the bumper on the highway so it wouldn't fly off.
The Lexus LX70 is one of the best SUVs around. I think that all of the paint was wet sanded at the factory for perfection and they were built at the Aichi Yoshiwara plant. Provided the new owner takes good care of it, that LX70 or any Toyota Land Cruiser should last forever. What a steal!
It’s not that American vehicles are cheap it’s just some previous owners don’t actually take care of them or get the maintenance done. I bought a 99 f150 4x4 for 2400 bucks, very solid truck, everything works and bulletproof 2v 5.4l super easy to work on as well. After maintenance and replacement on older parts around the engine bay I’ll be sandblasting and painting the frame and undercarriage
Hey I got an idea 💡. You need to focus on more of owners and ownership history than car review. You need standard questions about the ownership history. Good and bad memories, maintenance circle and so on. It's about cars but mainly focused on owners and people. It warm lot of hearts. I hope you get the idea. Thank me later 😉
My 2002 4Runner has the same traction control. It’s saved my bacon a few times, but I do wish there was a way to turn it off, it annoyingly kicks in when I’m trying to power steer around corners on dirt roads. I also picked up the 2002 LX470 last year, same one, I like most everything about it except that horrible integrated stereo/ climate control system - there’s no easy way to replace it. Oh, and my sunroof got stuck open, that was an adventure to get dealt with, the steering wheel doesn’t telescope, the power antenna is broken, and one of the exhaust headers leaks. I still like it, but they definitely have a few issues, like all cars.
Congrats on having one! One thing’s for sure .. it won’t leave you stranded! Also, I agree with you. The traction control does limit your fun.. We’re still winning!
@Michael H mine aren’t rusted, it’s a California car. I started getting the dreaded ticking noise after driving it hard over Sonora Pass, which is super steep. I’m just gonna leave it unless the ticking gets louder. It even passed the smog inspection.
@@reviewedbytim when you push the traction control button to turn it off it only partially turns it off. Still some nanny system going on. But if you push and hold the button down for 3-5 seconds when you turn it off, an orange triangle comes on the dash and it is truly fully turned off. Can you say donuts in snow covered parking lots? Haha. Still not as drifty as RWD with its full time 4WD, but it can be turned off.
I received a hand me down 2006 with 126K miles, been sitting , I've been restoring it back to be road worthy, horrible gas mileage but the ride its sooooooooooo smoooooooth. lol

Hi Tim, your videos are amazing. I just bought this same 2002 pearl LX470. I can't find any answers to my problem-just picked up car this week. When I turn car on, front screen says "No disc detected." It won't let me hit the "I Agree " button. I have owned an LX 470 2001 for four years and never had this issue. Any advice? So appreciated!
Hey, that’s a weird issue. I haven’t heard of this yet. I would start by making sure you completely unplug the battery (if you haven’t already). Leave it unplugged for 10-15 minutes. Make sure everything completely dies. After that would consider taking it to a dealer. A lot of times they won’t charge you. Especially if you just tell them your problem. If I think of anything else I will let you know. Keep me updated on what happens
I have an 80’s series and it’s amazing, I had a 100’s series and it was also a great truck. These are beasts, they will last a lifetime. St Simons ;) , if you know you know
No disc detected could mean there’s a malfunction and it can’t read of the modem. Let me know if unplugging the battery like I told you in the other comment works! When you replay start a new comment. Because UA-cam doesn’t tell me if you respond to this message.

Thanks Bob. Congrats on your 100 series. I'm looking for one now that is equipped with Triple Lockers. This is a 2002. Such a great vehicle. No complaints at all. I recommend 2003+ for an lx470. Reason only for that is the upgraded transmission that has 5 forward gears instead of 4. The 2001-02 models have the updated interior (I wouldn't waste your time getting a 98'-99' model) and the 2003 and up has slightly (hard to tell.. mainly shifter design) more updated interior as well. But at the end of the day the main thing for me is the 5 speed auto transmission. Better acceleration. All are extremely reliable. Also when you get into the lx470's the suspension is hydraulic all the way around. Many people complain that they go out. I can tell you from personal experience that this is because people do not flush the system and maintain it. On my channel there is a review of one with 535,000 miles. The Hydraulic suspension last until 450k miles. All because it was maintained properly.
Thx Tim, appreciate the advice , mine is a 80 series 1995 triple locker . I’ll be looking for a 2003-2008 LX 470 . With the 5 forward gears . What about the ones 2010-2018 any major upgrades or improvements ? ? Thx again .👍⚾️
Yup, I run 87 octane in it. That's the cheapest fuel I have around me. When you get to the 2003+ models you'll see that there's a bump in HP. It's only 5hp but it's all due to the tune that they had from the factory. Those require premium fuel. But I'm sure you can still run lower grade fuel. These engines aren't high performing.
@@reviewedbytim Thanks man, I have the SC 430 coupe that has a similar engine. I'm currently in the market for an SUV, so I'll definitely check out the GX & LX.

Congrats on the GX! Low miles on yours bro! I'm a huge fan of the GX's... They're both great. LX just floats like a cloud! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Our 2005 lx470 is still going strong at 166k miles absolute beast and I daily drive it!
I love the 2005 model! That 5 speed transmission is butter!
I’ve owned a 2003 LX470 bought in 2004. It’s been perfect outside and in for the last 18 yrs, and 160K miles.
Great year. They had the 5 speed transmission those years. Much more efficient than the 4-speed. Congrats!
WHAT!? Bro you got a steal! Take care of that thing and if you want to sell it hit me up! Cheers!
Late 90s to early 2000s was a golden era of cars, we just didnt know it. :(
I know.. we need a Time Machine!
$300-$400 monthly?! Whoa! Lexus maintenance can be expensive but it might be time for you to sell this one 😅
Congrats on the TRD!
@@mickeydoolittle2057 The city where I live the Lexus dealership is the only people who will work on the hydraulic suspension. Independent Toyota shops won’t even remove the old one and go regular.
Maintenance can be expensive on these but you probably hold the record for most spent.
@@mononeo The Lexus owners forum is a great resource. I’m sure there are particular systems that need a specialist, but 90+ percent of maintenance can be done by competent maintenance techs. I drove 40 miles out of the suburbs & found a small town mechanic to do my front wheel bearings, $225 plus parts. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box….
I call my 2000 lx470 “dinosaur”After 220k miles continue strong a lot with low maintenance. I love that.
200k miles is like new! lol I did a review on one that has 500k miles with the original engine and transmission! You have a long ways to go Ricardo!
It's build under specific criteria set by the United Nations to last at least 25 years or 500,000 miles with minimum maintenance...... the UN is the #1 buyer of the Toyota Landcruiser/Lexus LX470.....
I used the UN and Cruiser diesel for 13 months in Cambodia. Half the time on dirt roads. No issue at all.
You don’t have to explain. I already knew of the quality. Legendary
HAHA if you know ... you know!
love it. 346k miles on my '00 LX470. ain't even broken in yet
Got that right! I've got another vid with one that over 500k miles with the original engine and transmission! Looked good too!
Own a 2019 and just sold a mint 2000. Both are excellent. Just be ready to fork over weekly fuel stops
You got that right. The newer gens are so sweet. Can't wait to get my hands on one!
I've had my 100 series LC for about 6 months now, they make these vehicles like tanks!
Congrats on that! You won't regret it!
How can I find such beautiful vehicle with less price and good shape. You are lucky to find that its just perfection.
I’m very lucky! I don’t know where you live but if you keep an eye out on Facebook Marketplace you’ll be surprised with what you find! Best of luck bro!
@@reviewedbytim I live in Toronto. Thanks I will start searching on Fb then. Appreciate that.
I have a 15 Lx570 with 61,000 miles on it. I love it. I researched lx b4 I got it and the reliability is the reason why I purchased it along with the low miles with 48,000 at the time.
I have a 2000 lx with about 175 mi. I had the timing belt and water pump done. This is the best vehicle I have ever owned.
Brandon you have another 200k to put on yours haha. Thanks for watching!
Buick had the first brake traction system in 1971. Range Rovers had the first traction control system on a 4x4 in 1992. Lots of cars use the Electronic Braking Differential today.
Thank you for the knowledge! I always wondered who started it!
You’re a wise man, Bob! They need to listen to you! lol
If you buy a 4x4 your main concern should be smiles per gallons 😎
Wonderful video and let me say that I own a 200 series land cruiser. The 200 series and the 100 series and of course the Lexus variant are the greatest vehicles that money can buy. There I said it. As you say it’s over, engineered, the best build longest lasting most reliable capable vehicle in the world.
Dang Eric! I love the 200 series!
Congrats on that man!

Yes, glad you’re in the Toyota family!
This is why you should buy lexus lx 470. Yes should buy .
Yes sir!!!
This is the one that I am really been desiring to own. I have found some very nice premium examples out there. They ride like a dream. They off road they are luxuries and they last and last and last. It needs to be in my Garage its that or the newest LX600

Wow! You must be taking really good care of that thing! I would love to check it out and even possibly do a review on it one day! Keep it up!
@@reviewedbytim Would love that!! And yes I do take excellent care of her, and change ALL the fluids on a very regular basis.
Good job with your rview of the LX470, I would love to own one of these.
Thank you for the kind words Richard! They're great to own and hold so much value!
Subbed. Great channel! Lexus fanboy here. Had a 2014 IS350, now have a 2020 RCF. Hoping to get a 2nd car at some point - probably GX460

i had Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series which is the same car basically. It was a great vehicle, but with 4.7 V8 Gasoline engine and ATR tyres i got 11mpg.
Love that man! And yeah tires really kill the fuel mileage. Pays to play
I’m very familiar with these vehicles and they’re great. Great job especially flippin your money
Yeah sometimes you have to know when to keep them and when to make the money! Appreciate the kind words!
I sold my 2006 LX 470 for having alignment issues. I think about it all the time.
Oh no! lol Man, that's a hard one to think back on! But at least you had the chance to experience a great car! 06' was a great year! Smooth Transmission!
My wife is wanting ASU VI will definitely look at these
She will 100% love it! And they hold great value! Best of luck!
LOVE your videos so much!
Thanks! Glad you like!
A great old overland, camping vehicle. I will look for one because I need an great reliable camping machine.
You're looking in the right direction! The great thing about these is that you can use these a plush daily driver... extreme off-road vehicle... or both! Plus they hold incredible value!
the 3rd gen 4runner is up there as well, either or are excellent choices
Got that right! I’ll be doing a vid about those too! They’re solid!
I have a 98 Lx470 in the same pearl white. i also have the little wing that gets thrown on the top. 265k on it still runs like a top
I love the look with the wing! Thinking about getting one myself!
Landcruser... very nice ❤️
That’s awesome Phil! 177,000 is nothing for a “classic” Benz! I’ve always wanted an ml55. I think that would be a sick build! Congrats on yours!
I’ve had my lx for a while now and did not know the cup holders adjusted like that!
Dude I thought I responded to this days ago... But yes, there's a lot of guys that have no idea that the cup holder is there. It's always fun to see their reactions when I show them lol. Glad you have one! Cheers!
I would've given you 25K. Love this vehicle!!!!
Thanks for the compliment bro! Glad you like it!

😂 110k miles! Let me know if you decide to sell it. Lol.
I bought my 08 lx570 3 years ago with 95k on it. These are definitely beasts.
Ooo I want a 570 so bad! Congrats bro!!!

That hidden cupholder in the console is so cool 👀
Right! Many owners don't even know that it's there lol
Nice ride but the 13Mpg would kill the deal for me. Especially on long road trips. Gas will most certainly go up next year.
I'm with you on that. This one wasn't too bad. 20mpg's. But, no one buys these for fuel mileage. Thanks for watching!
Nice video! Just bought a brand new GX Luxury. Freaking love it.

Great video , what year is it & what year would you recommend ? I have a 1995 inline 6 LC 249,000 miles great condition & looking for a 100 & 200 series since I don’t off road . Thx again 👍⚾️
Nice...What grade gas? Can it burn regular?
Yup, I run 87 octane in it. That's the cheapest fuel I have around me. When you get to the 2003+ models you'll see that there's a bump in HP. It's only 5hp but it's all due to the tune that they had from the factory. Those require premium fuel. But I'm sure you can still run lower grade fuel. These engines aren't high performing.
@@reviewedbytim Thanks man, I have the SC 430 coupe that has a similar engine. I'm currently in the market for an SUV, so I'll definitely check out the GX & LX.
