The box represents the what the church views as “propaganda” of LGTBQ info and awareness, etc. by a country that is heavily restricted from such material. And also that the church forbids and condemns LGTBQ and that the public will lynch mob such individuals in the “name of god”. It’s such a powerful, haunting and disturbing video! I saw the box as a metaphor for the secret they have to keep. People who disagree with what they feel for each other would harm them. When they do find out the one is harmed. They bring out the box and expose the secret of them being gay. They end up killing the one and his lover can't reach him in time. Because the government and the church tells us who we can love and what is right, but what's right is what makes us happy as long as its not hurting anyone.
I may be too literal of a thinker, but I always thought the box had anything "incriminating" about him and his partner in it, especially anything that could identify him but he couldn't bear to destroy. Photos, dates, letters, stuff like that. So by burying it, you get the all the Artsy sad symbolism and a real scene that could play out. Because the bad guys are trying to get him to give up his partner and he won't. At least, that's my interpretation.

Yes, I think the box was their secret love ... private between them. I am 70 1/2 and have been openly gay my whole adult life and cannot believe that I never saw this video until today ... almost 9 years after it came out. It is damning against anti-gay people.

We never really see what's in the box but I always imagined that it was money for them to leave to go somewhere they could be safe together. This is still an ongoing issue... there are still countries where you can be killed because of who you love. Homophobia and transphobia, sadly, is alive and well :(

May I make a small statement. Please. I understand all too well the condemnation of church. I had a wonderful experience in my youth going with my aunt and grandmother. I did. I did not find such love and understanding in Oklahoma, when I lived there for 5 years in my late teens. But I was never denied for being gay directly at the time. I was told I did not dress correctly (New polo shirt and new levis was not right....I guess.) And I was told I could not enter because I was wearing a Lion King windbreaker. The church had boycotted Disney and its being LGBTQIA friendly. (That was the eye opener) From, I want to say that was 1997 until 2018 I did not go to church. I returned to my hometown in Arizona in that time. Felt things might be a little easier. Could not be more wrong. I would never tell him this, but I think my friend I went with, as well as someone I worked with in the past there told them I was gay. The former pastor of said church (did not know it was this church) had been convicted in the 90's of 32.....yes 32 counts of child molestation and rape of the girls in the church. He, in jail, asked God for forgiveness. And was welcomed into heaven. Gays however cannot repent. They cannot seek forgiveness. And truly they are going to burn in hell. Unless they stood up in front of their congregation, spoke their sin, sought forgiveness of the church, got married, had children......they are doomed to the fires of hell as Satan's spawns. I knew he was baiting me. Had it not been for the shock and embarrassment of my friend...all rage in me would have exploded in that room, because I promise I was going to take the bait for a final time. I have never been back. I know how the church is towards the LGBTQIA+ I get it. But I also know it is not the teachings of Jesus or the Bible. People really it is not. There is a massive difference between organized religion, and those of true faith and following. So the people in the building have turned you away. So what? There is no judgment in this world that matters. Only God can judge when your time comes to leave this earth. Only God can render the verdict of your lifetime. And he does not judge based on WHAT you are, but WHO you were as a person. You do not need to be inside the building to have your time praying to God. This is Gods world he created. He can be heard and talked to anywhere. The Earth is the church of churches. And he knew your life before you were brought into the world. He knows you are gay/trans/bi/straight. It is how you act in the world that matters to him the most. I know it can be painful, it can hurt, and sometimes it can be destructive to have such a complete and utter hostility from a place that is supposed to be teaching kindness and love. You can find that place. Do not let the organized ones keep you from Gods light and love.
