    YO! YO! YO!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!VERY IMPORTANT PLS READ....... MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hint: in this video i actually show you how to remove the 13mm but that secures the esl module to the steering column, i didnt show it in part 1 so pls see it here in part 2...good luck everyone with your fix...attention to detail is most important here....
ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH HOW TO REMOVE THE MOTOR IN THE ESL MODULE,
    DO NOT ATTEMPT IT AND
SIMPLY REMOVE THE ESL AND EIS AND GET A LOCKSMITH TO FIX IT FOR YOU, THEY WILL MAKE SURE IT ALL WORKS AGAIN....
BUT AS STATED IN THE VIDEO, IF YOUR COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR SKILL LEVEL AND FEEL YOU CAN REMOVE THE MOTOR AND REMEMBERING TO TAKE PHOTOS OF HOW IT IS PUT BACK TOGETHER , THEN YOU CAN JUST REPLACE THE MOTOR ALONE AND IT WILL SOLVE YOUR ISSUE
THEN REASSEMBLE EVERYTHING AND YOU WILL BE GOLDEN
PLS SHARE THIS VIDEO, DO WHATEVER YOU NEED TO DO
AND GET THE WORD OUT THERE ABOUT THIS CHANNEL GUYS,
    ID REALLY APPRECIATE IT
ILL ALSO BE WORKING ON OTHER CARS ASWELL AND EVEN A MOTORBIKE R1
    SO HEAPS TO COME
BUT I NEED YOUR HELP TO SPREAD THE WORD SO I CAN CONTINUE TO MAKE VIDEOS FOR ALL YOU GUYS OUT THERE

my friend, you're the best. period.
Your video gave me that final push to tackle my project. I read and watched 50+ things and this was the last one.
My car is a 2011 GLK350, slightly different way to remove trims but in essence, same job. For the ones researching, here is a few thoughts:
    - My ESL started to fail, especially when cold. with a few attempts, it would start the car.
    - I bought the part through Amazon, looks identical although it has a different part number. It worked.
    - ESL with new motor is slightly noisier and faster. I completed the job in 3 hours with breaks.
    - My only mistake was to connect and test the ESL-KEY-EIS with the key inserted, dashboard plugged... BUT the air bag off.... now I have a SRS light and will have to figure out how to reset (I will not take it to the dealer!)
    Thank you!

    Hi Mikey,
I eventually got round to replacing the ESL on my w 204. What a bloody awful job from beginning to end. However, I managed it it in the end - thanks to your good self - and I replaced it with an emulator obviating the necessity of placing it back in its original position.
The ESL warning light came on when I started it up again but after a short run and a repositioning of the clockspring and the steering wheel all is OK

Thanks for a great vid.. saved me time and money👌 I managed to change the motor and I only dropped the kick plate down 3x torx screws and the 4 x male torx bolts that hold the column up and did all the work looking through the side of the dash with end panel removed. I didn't remove the steering wheel, stalks, clocks or anything else. The pins in the box were the most time consuming as i didn't have the correct tool like you had but I sharpened a pick to a small square and that did the trick. If i was to do it again 2hrs would see the job done comfortably. Thanks again for great, very helpful and informative video 10/10

Hi Mike, This is an incredibly informative video. I'm somewhat looking forward to getting at it with my 2008 C-class. I usually do most of my work with the help (an major savings) of champs like you being detailed and clear. One key detail I've read touched on but not fully addressed is what exactly is happening and subsequently what needs to be done first when more than the two (or a few) noted attempts are made to start the vehicle with no response? I drove out somewhere (no issues whatsoever) parked and went for a walk with my family. Came back and entered the car to start it like I have for years with no issue to have it completely doing nothing. With this being foreign to me I tried several times and then tried my wife's fob several times. I most definitely believe it's the ESL because I eventually noticed the sound we usually hear was not longer happening and the steering was still turning.
My main question before going down the road of you repair, do I now have to somehow reprogram my key fobs before being able to proceed with the fix? Are the now deprogrammed as a "fail safe" as mentioned in a comment?
Thank you for any help you can provide on this small glitch. :)

hey mate thanks for the kind words... so in the case where u have caused the care not to recognise your key by trying to turn the ignition wen esl failed..I think its just a fail safe .. but I believe your key still works .. its just shut down so in case someone is actually trying to steal ur car ..can't.. u won't need to program it.. I believe u can just do the fix and it will be ok ... but I can't say I'm 100% sure but in my experience and research this is what ppl do ... I believe u can just go ahead with the fix .. many ppl have had successful attempts and told me it's actually not too bad once u get into it.. I wish u all the best and hope u get at it

@@MIKEYZVLOGZ thanks again. Just waiting for the part and reaquainting myself with the procedure prior to its arrival. A couple of questions from Part 2. To do the all important test prior to reassembly you didn't mention whether or not you reconnected the airbag (srs system) prior to energizing or reconnecting the battery for the ESL test, is that required? In part 1 (I think) I recall some mention that it's almost inevitable to have to deal with an srs error when testing and one will have to get that OBD2 reprogramming tool. However in this Part when talking about testing the ESL prior to assembly there is no mention of having the airbag temporarily connected to avoid an srs error code later if the ESL is good and we reassemble everything.
Secondly, at ANY point when dealing with the airbag in disconnection, reconnection and handling, is their ANY possibility of it deploying and giving someone a heart attack? 😂😂💔😱🤣

but i also do alot of research before attempting something , i was also very lucky as well not to screw anything up when it came to the esl.... but also i made sure that if i had any issues i could take it somewhere to get fixed, which is why io stated in the video if your not comfortable with doing electrical work on your car then its prolly better to get someone else to do it, but if you follow my steps to remove the esl, it will still save you money , getting someone else to do the removal of the esl would cost around 1750 ...but if you remove it yourself and get someone to fix the issue in the module alone and also remove the EIS ignition switch , then you would only opay around 500..so either way you can save big $$$$

The original motor is still working but I got my first fault earlier this week so I just want to replace quickly so that I'm not stranded. So back to my question?? I placed the key in the EIS and it unlocked. I then removed the battery cables. I"ve replaced the motor and have installed the ESL. Should I place the key back in the EIS and turn to the position it was in when I disconnected the battery before reconnecting the battery and testing? Or will this matter??

if you have a obd2 scanner that can reset most or all errors like airbags and SAS etc... then u can simply test it by reconnecting the white cable that plugs nto the esl module ... which is the green plug harness on the esl module and make sure your battery is disconnected at first with your key in ignition.... when u reconnect your battery .... then u can just remove the key and reinsert to make sure it works .... you will hear the turning noise of the motor... the motor can be found all over Ebay.... if you type in w204 esl elv motor it will come up.... 1: Should all steps be the same or very similar on a W204 C220 too?
2: Is it possible to bypass removing the instrument cluster = leave it in place?
3: Is it possible to bypass removing the steering wheel by simply loosening the wheel's adjustment lever? Wouldn't that provide enough access to the ESL? You know, when you adjust the steering wheel's height and position for your convenience.

hey buddy welcome to the channel
      1. yes steps will.be same
      2. yes u can bypass by buying a esl emulator that bypasses the esl module and you just unplug the esl and plug your emulator in place and secure it wherever u like..just as long as the cable is long enough for you to place it where you choose... also you will need to have the emulator programmed to suit your car
lowering the column isnt enough you will.need to remove the steering wheel and the column cover and loosen the 4 etorx bolts in order to lower the column enough to reach the esl ... adjusting the steering angle will allow some room but not enough to remove the esl module from the steering column ..hope this was helpful friend

in theory yes u can .. however understabd that ur steering wheel will not lock anymore ... that exactly how an emulator works... it replaces the esl and u no longer have a locked steering wheel wen u lock car .. in theory that will work .. cuz all thT matters is that the signal is sent to the ecu telling it that the key is entered and registered and u caN start the car ... i dont see why it wouldnt work ... but i guess its up to you what u decide .. for example when i fixed my esl i tried to start the car by testing without reinstalling the esl module and it started no worries ...

    Hi Mikeyz,
Nice video Part1, and part2 as well. At the same time I have a question, which i also posted in Part1. Question is : after i
    1. removed ESL ( MB c300 w204 2011 ) exactly according to your video part1,
    2. replaced the motor inside of ESL ( replaced properly, ESL is in unlock position now, and it was in unlock position when i removed it ),
    3. checked if PIN can be pushed in ok in newly assembled ESL,
    4. connected ESL to car, connected steering column, airbag, instrumental cluster ( connected to test ESL ),
    5. connected battery Minus,
    6. turned the car key ( key was all this time inserted ) - two first times instrumental console was showing same message as before repair, than it went completely dark like key is not in car.
... so my question is - should I reprogram the ESL+ EIS now ? Since i did not install new ESL, only replaced motor - it should not be required. ESL/EIS reprogramming is needed only when we put new ESL ( new chips ) into car ... but in my case, after just replacing the motor, i seems face the need to remove and reprogram ESL/EIS ?

in your case friend what you should do is now take the esl and eis to key specialist and let them fix it.... im sorry to say that something must have went wrong when you replace the motor.... it seems like a very easy job but the smallest mistake will make the ESL not work ...if you take it all apart and bring the esl and eis to a speciallist it should be very cheap maybe around 200 max compared 1500... i hope this helps and u get it fixed asap....

I suspect the software in the NEC security chip expects the state of the ESL to be in the locked position, not like in your case it being unlocked. When you put the key in, the motor pulls the lock back and that is the noise you hear.
What I suspect with the advice of the grey pin (of the limit switch) to be depressed, is the following:
Turn the wheel until the spring-loaded lock is fully out, that is the locked state the chip expects before start. In that case the grey pin of the limit switch on the outside has to be depressed to switch off the motor during the final locking. Put in the new motor. Now comes the "depressing" part, which I have not done yet. To install the circuit board may mean pushing back the grey pin of the limit switch with a small screw driver, so it fits in at the post and is depressed and the circuit board can now be dropped in with the aid of the corner pin and the two pins providing power to the motor.
I believe the NEC chip sees the grey pin of the middle limit switch not depressed (= switch ON) and turns the motor in the correct rotation to pull the locking pin back at start-up. The middle grey pin will eventually be "depressed" (=switch OFF) and the motor stops having pulled the lock back. The external limit switch is depressed (= switch OFF) at the start.
IMHO, if the NEC chip's program does not see that state of the limit switches on start-up, it gets confused and does not do anything, I do not believe it burns out then. This former IT lecturer believes at start-up, the logic of the firmware is:
If external grey pin is depressed, switch on motor to pull lock back until middle limit switch pin is hit to stop motor - the UNLOCKING process.
If middle grey pin is depressed, switch on motor to push lock out until external limit switch pin is hit to stop motor- the LOCKING process.
My motor died half way, so locking pin is half out and I suspect that would also confuse the NEC chip as both grey pins are not depressed in that position, but the circuit board falls in rather nicely and that is depressing!
I hope MIKEYZ agrees with my logic as it probably fixes some of the complaints of: "I put the motor in and it does not work"?

well, if the esl is malfunctioned then the key would still turn it just wont start the car , and hence u dont get ignition or accessories power... in your case where the key isnt recognised , it is also due to this malfunction, for eg. wen ur esl goes bad, the car doesnt even recognise the key and asks for you to insert the key eventhough the key is in the ignition.. so i wouold guess that your issue was the esl all along.. to do this fix many have simply followed my video and had great success.. i would encourage you to do so as well rather then paying mercedes or a locksmith speclist for automobiles to charge you anywhere from 750 to 1750 ..so yes you just need to follow this video and it will help you successfully complete this fix ..g'luck all the best ..u can do it

Hello my friend, I've tried to use this method, though it didn't work on my C300. Maybe am doing it wrong or something?

    • @MIKEYZVLOGZ
      @MIKEYZVLOGZ  5 років тому +1

im sorry to hear that sometimes it doesn't always work , so make sure your prepared, it happens by chance also , which is why i said in the video that it inst the case for everyone , i think you have to keep trying put your key in the ignition and tap, with an actual hammer and a rubber hammer also, a metal hammer would be bit better cuz more vibration, just don't break anything, try it with key not in ignition as well, pls understad sometimes this happens by fluke, and, may i ask how long this has been happening for??? maybe your ESL has completely malfunctioned, and in that case you would have to remove the entire steering column which i am not comfortable with, let me do some research and try give you more tips
