Hello and thank you! I'm trying to upgrade mine but had to dremel off the gear on the motor. Do you have any idea what size the pinion gear is? They gave me a 48p 28t at the hobby store but that gear that will not flush up against the drive gear. It is too small in diameter. I can't find a proper size call out to order a replacement :(
@@TheFrenchPug 22T is stock!
@@VallonesRCHobby I ordered a couple 22Ts so hopefully they fit ok. Thank you!!!
Will this setup work in 144001?
@@SpookySpencerFinnLoki I have build vids on what to do with that car.
Thank you for not making this video 84 days long like some other guys on UA-cam 😂😂 great video!
I appreciate that my friend, thank you! =)
I'm addicted to hearing that sound n . Yeah the gears
Pretty cool, right?
Thanx for the really great vid on the brushless setup!! I'm waiting on mine in the mail!! Have a great day!
Your installs are like butter man. Seriously.. great job 👏
Thanks so much!
Great job on the video, editing, presentation, content, etc. Thx for sharing.
I appreciate that, thanks so much.
That's a pretty good run Chris 👍 awesome looking bug also 😉 .
Great video
Thanks Fonzie!
This video was perfect. very informative yet still very short.
I actually used the exact same motor and ESC combo. I'm very new to the hobby and this really helped. Thanks alot.
Awesome thanks 👍
Great filming and post production
Thank you! =)
Looking good! 😃👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Dave, and thanks for your advise the other day.
Great video, I received my 104001 yesterday, I think install a brushless combo, this is a good cheap option, regards from Uruguay
Great thanks for that!
Looks good enough for me
Good editing skills
great video !!
Awesome video bro. Kicking ass buddy
Thanks so much man, I appreciate it.
@@VallonesRCHobby anytime bro. Good job
Awesome
Nice
Lol, I havent even gotten mine yet but I've ALREADY ordered a carbon chassis kit, AND the brushless motor, servo, esc, and radio are also all waiting to be shoved into it once the car arrives. Got a good deal on a metal servo, stronger esc, and 4000kv motor as a combo and a dumboRC Radio set will complete the build and give me a nice gyro to assist if I need it. I thought about getting the 3mm, but SOME flex is often a good thing and I didnt feel like having to heat it to fit it. I'll add a center top brace if I must, or machine some sort of solution on my own CNC.
Ha good stuff man! Let me know how you make out.
New Subscriber here 👍👍😀
thank you!! =)
I found this RC car just today and damn I want it so badly
I like it, great to build on.
waoooo💪💪💪💪
Keep us posted, really nice 'tutiainal type ' video .
Over all would you say the stock handling was pretty decent ?
For the price, yes!
Great video! Thank you for not making it 40xfaster as most ppl do.Wonder if this buggy may fit 6s battery?
Only if you change ESC an run a shorty fat pack..zee batteries can make you one for under $75
Best 104001 brushless upgrade video. May I ask what Philips bit were you using? I was doing the motor upgrade the other day and stripped 2 screws on the motor plate. Had issue with Philips head as always.
Its a #2! It came with my Genesis screwdriver gun. =)
There was no link to the servo for this video. Can you tell me what servo you got for this build?
What servo did u use I can’t find one that fits
excellent video my friend. !!
can you tell if the stock pinion is 32p or 48p ? and how many tooth thanks :)
its a .6mod pitch pinion. I think it is 32p. But last time some folks went and searched for 32p and it was slightly off. What are you looking to do?
I seen it on a couple of websites and it’s brushless
You made it look so easy i have a few of these, you can use a chassis brace from snother vehicle cut n weld ..biggest pinion you can fit roughly 23 or so an get 12 mm to ,17 mm hex ..bigger tires an you'll go over 65...your welcome
What size did the battery fit?
Great video!! I did the same setup and I’m getting 35 on 2s so I’m very happy with that. I was wondering did you have any coging issues with yours on 2s?
I did a bit, yeah.
what does 2s and 3s mean?
@@armyof12monkeyss battery cells in series, so higher s is higher voltage. Each battery is about 3.7 volts. 2s means two, battery put end to end, so 7.2v. 3s is there batteries, so 11.1v. Battery cells in series increases voltage. Battery cells in parallel increases mAh (run time).
@@armyof12monkeyss It refers to the voltage of the battery. "2s" is two lipo cells in series; each cell has a nominal voltage of about 3.7v, so a 2s battery would be 7.4v, 3s would be 11.1v, and so on. In layman's terms, the higher the voltage, the higher the speed.
Greate video !!
What is the servo do you use ?
Thanks
cheap 25kg servo off banggood.
@@classicvwbugs thanks 🙏🏻
Can you move the battery strap more forward for a bigger battery and what is the pitch on the pinion gear and when you put the motor on does the motor mesh up just right
You would have to fabricate something maybe, there is not an adjustable battery placement that I see. The pinion is .6 mod. This car has an adjustable motor mount, so you can mesh it up just right.
What about diff?
Are all the electronics now water proof?!
Is that a 32 Lincoln zephyr?
How will that flat chassis work though? Nice job.
Hey Jess! How are ya? What do you mean about the chassis?
@@VallonesRCHobby I been down but I'm doing a little better now. I just don't see how a "Flat" carbon fiber chassis will work the same as the stock chassis. It has a slight "up-kick" in the front, like most have. It may not "really" make a difference though....
@@rcpd3157 Yeah I think the car has a lot more life to it. Were you sick? I hope not covid.
@@VallonesRCHobby I have an ulcer. It's bigger than my stomach. It just causes misery and sick a lot. Had to go to the hospital with it. No covid thankfully. I like it but I broke the rf axle already. We both drove it and was probably deserved, just hard to judge this after what my Big Rock takes. Definitely, a fun RC and one to buy!
@@rcpd3157 Oh my gosh, so sorry to hear that. I wish you the best, great to hear from you again.
did you run it hard enough to see temps reach high points on both 2 and 3s??? maybe add another 5 to 10 tooth pinion would get you a perfect setup... i have a 4370 kv motor coming for my 144001... i think it will be over 45mph on 2s...which is perfect for me..
Temps really seemed ok to be honest, that stock pinion is kinda small, so it kept it cool. Did you see my builds on the 144001? I put a 2440 motor in mine with a 15t pinion and I did 54mph on 3s.
@@VallonesRCHobby i wonder if just taking the stock pinion out of 144001 and using that would be okay...not sure what pinion tooth count is on either of them... i never upgraded motors yet... i think a stock 144001 is 27 tooth and this car is around 16 tooth...if this is the case that would be a good swap to test....thanks for sharing..
@@roadstar499 Yeah probably not, the pitch is different on the 144001, it is .7 mod pitch, while the 104001 is .6 mod. The teeth will not mesh good.
I used the same goolrc esc and motor combo using 2s or 3s lipo. However, I really have a big time issue in cogging using stock pinion. How did you resolve the cogging issue?
Yeah in the end I eventually got rid of that stuff and bought a hobbywing ESC
@@VallonesRCHobby which particular hobbywing ESC did you buy? I am planning to buy quicrun 10BL60 if programming card will not address the cogging issue.
@@jhojhiedeleon34 150amp quicrun I think I bought. I have since sold the car.
VW oval Beatle omg!! 🤙🤙🤙👍👍
Hell yeah man! My other biz is "Classic VW BuGs"
The ovel is a very hard find !
I have a vw thing and a karmann Ghia but the oval is a thing of beauty !
@@nickmarangos2475 Oh no kidding! What years? Both those cars are going up in value.
@@VallonesRCHobby I know I collect VW's. The Ghia is a 1957 the thing is a 1969. I'm in the process now of buying a MK1 golf.
Why did you reverse the order of the cables from the esc to the motor?
Clogging an the reverse perspective work better for clogging
hi, may I ask one question?
Can I use the ESC, remote+ receiver and servo from 104001 on a Tamiya plasma edge 2 buggy? if I can, i will consider upgrade my 104001 like you and buy a Plasma edge 2 for my son. I want him to assemble his first RC buggy, so I think Tamiya is a better choice than RTR one. thanks
you probably could do it, is the plasma edge a 1/10th scale?
No, WL uses a 5 wire system. Tamiya uses a 3 wire system and two to motor.
@@tomkruze2749 thanks a lot
used program card ?
Nope, stock settings.
Is there any mod available to fit a bigger size battery in there?
How big are you thinking?
@@classicvwbugs Hi there! I have a 3s which is 14 cm in length do you know if it fits? Thank you
@@michalis5817 thats too long
Hi, why are you changing RC receiver ? Is it possible to do the same upgrade but keeping the original one ? (sorry I'm a beginner in RC world... :-) I would go for a brushless motor 2600kv Thanks for your answer
because the receiver is a 2 in one with the esc on this kit out of the box. When upgrading, you would need to change the ESC so it can handle the brushless conversion. All ESCs on the market that you purchase to upgrade are by themselves, so then you would need a new receiver with controller.
@@classicvwbugs thanks ! How many chanels do I need for the receiver ? 3 is enough ? tkx
@@fredgelhausen8801 yeah for a basic setup, you just need to plug in the steering servo and the esc to it.
What servo is that?
Basic servo, I bought in like a cheap 6 pack of servos on eBay.
Did u also upgrade to a new steering servo, and why was heat gun neededjust asking how do you pair the transmitter to the car?
I did upgrade the servo, yeah, you have to if you decide to go brushless. When you get a new transmitter, it comes with a new receiver, so it is paired already.
@@classicvwbugs do you know which steering servo should I get? I see that there is 180 and like a 200 something degrees and I don’t know which one I should get. Lastly how much kg of force do you think this buggy needs? I’ve seen 20 to 30kg
@@danielli2522 This one will work usa.banggood.com/custlink/mGvYntsIIp
@@VallonesRCHobby do u have to mess with it like programming?
@@danielli2522 no, should just drop right in
Hey man where did you go?
I'm still here man, pretty much stopped the RC channel. My VW business got real busy the past couple years, so it has been hard to put time to the RC stuff. I still race around with them tho.
@@classicvwbugs good to hear about your business 👍🏻.
@@Jaysqualityparts Thank you my friend.
Good video but music is a little too dramatic for what you’re doing.
Can't please everyone
@@classicvwbugs jus saying.
I blew out the front differential on 2S with the brushed motor not impressed with this car
Might of been a bad diff, thats unusual.
@@classicvwbugs I'm in the process of sending it back to the seller on eBay I don't want to upgrade this to brushless I thought it would handle better on the track but it doesn't like to turn tight it was fast enough for the track being brushed
Worst car WLtoy made...for the price of 2 good 144001. Sad to see some people promoting such a fail to get affiliate links sales.
