I like the Five-seveN both in game and in real life.
The FN Five-SeveN handgun is the companion pistol to the FN P90, both made by Belgian arms manufacturer FN Herstal. Both fire the FN 5.7x28mm cartridge. The small size of the round allows both the Five seveN and P90 to have a compact size and a high capacity, being no longer than a .40 S&W.
Both were made as a NATO replacement for the UMP and MP5 which could not pierce Modern Kevlar. NATO sought a replacement SMG that had the AP capabilities of a rifle. Two options were brought forth, the Belgian P90/ Five-seveN combo, and the German HK MP7.
NATO testing concluded that the P90 was far better, and could pierce 1.6mm of titanium and 20 layers of Kevlar from 200meters, while the MP7 could not

You gotta admit though, the five seven has a better weapon design than any other pistols, it's just that good.

In Source and 1.6 it was atleast this gun was outclassed by deagle -- it was more expensive, it had moderate recoil, and it had crap damage just like P90, since logic: they share the same round, why is their power so drastically different in CS:GO? I have no idea.
It was pretty much like a Glock, just it could 2shot a helmet instead of 3shot.
And its cost was 750, while deag cost was 650. By all logic deagle was the BEST pistol in terms of raw damage, because, come on -- how can shitty 9mm or 5.7 round compete with .50 AE bullets? It is against any logic or common sense! In Source and 1.6 deag is also much more useable. It has shitty long range accuracy unless u stand still (and/or crouching), but, with good practice, its a headshot machine, and bodyshots kill in 3 hits, which is relatively easy to achieve in close quarters due to its nice recoil. Recoil was the worst of all the pistols in Source, but, not as huge as in bloody CS:GO. CS:GO fucking the weapon balance that was pretty much flawless in Source. ARs, AWP and deag were the king but that is how it should be, maybe? They are the best of the best in terms of situational use, deal with it! Now 500 pistol can rival a rifle in performance... why u even need a rifle, then? just force close quarters engagements and score 1 bullshitty kill after another.

Giving this thing to civilians is fucking stupid. You don't need an armour piercing semi-auto to hunt.
Edit: Oh? The controversy was about the ammo? Well that's alright then. With standard pistol ammo it's okay.
It isn't armor piercing without armor piercing bullets which means it has a steel core. This is already banned from handguns due to the "cop killer" ammunition ban. The controversy was from uneducated people complaining about things that were already illegal. FN never even attempted to offer steel core 5.7 ammunition into the civilian market, the only way for a civilian to get steel core is to have a police officer order it from FN and resell it to you, which they can legally do if the ammunition is for use in a rifle. This is common for hog hunting, AR57 is an amazing hog gun as you can catch your own spent shell casings with a hollowed out P-Mag, this means you do not litter farms and pastures with spent casings. So basically the controversy comes down to that a cop has to sell someone a "cop killer" bullet for there to be a problem.
Madra and the only issue with the 5-7 is the ammunition capacity which is the actual main controversy. Apparently 15 shots is overkill in some states, nevermind the amount of punch the gun has even if it only had five shots. These things sell like hotcakes due to the usefulness as a concealed carry, because they have MAD stopping power via speed alone.
