What a great haul! Especially the meat. I cook with ground turkey all the time. Use it for turkey burgers, in spaghetti, chilli and baked beans. Just use it right away after defrosting.
Question: Do you pick what you want or is it a surprise, like they fill the bags or boxes and hand them to you. FYI : we moms of adult children LOVE when you still need us for guidance 🥰🥰. My motherly advice on the turkey would be just cook it up and if it doesn’t stink! It’s still good to use.
Hi! They fill bags for us based on family size (quantity). At our local pantry, we are asked a couple of preference questions, such as, ketchup, mustard, or salad dressing, etc. They will try to pick based on any food allergies you have, if they're able to. We are a no beef household so I buy ground turkey or ground chicken all the time or if we are blessed from the food pantry. It is fine on the look of it. When we fry bacon I save the bacon grease and use it to cook the turkey with as it is lean and there is little fat and it often depending on the brand can have a "off taste" to it the bacon grease seasons it also usually we cook it with onions before adding to chili beans in the crockpot. I know what you mean about having refried beans on a tortilla, I grew up on that. My dad made the best refried beans. I love refried beans on a tortilla with some stringy, melted cheese. Isn't it such a blessing when you are out of something and getting prepared to buy it then you get it from the food pantry/bank. You got a very nice assortment of food much more than what the pantries in my area give out. Whenever I get ground turkey I give it to one friend that's what she prefers to cook with. We have one pantry that is the third Saturday of the month it's nothing but hygiene products health and beauty diapers cleaning supplies it is very helpful
Yes please on the recipe. I love Mandarin oranges! Very nice haul a wonderful blessing. The eating well meal looks good. It does look like a little freezer burned but if you put in a slow cooker I have found that if meets a little freezer burned it comes out just perfect in a slow cooker you won't even know it was freezer burned.
Very nice selection of items. The turkey should be fine but you can always do the sniff test to see if it still smells fresh. It can be used for taco meat. Take care and thank you for sharing.
The brown on turkey, beef, chicken, sausage, is just oxidation. The air is reacting with the meat. As long as it smells okay and isn't sticky, should be good to go.

Ground turkey is just like hamburgers this is not as greasy as your ground beef is and you just have to put a little bit of shortening in your pan when you fry it or you can use it for tacos you can use the first burritos you can use it for your enchiladas tostadas whatever you want to use it for it's just better healthier than hamburgers doesn't have less
I would make chili with the ground Turkey. It's not my favorite thing so when I need to get rid of it chili is the answer. It looked fine. Maybe a touch frozen too long but I would absolutely still use it, I personally hate Turkey burgers so I try to disguise it as much as possible.
Hi! Your concern regarding the frozen ground turkey to me it seems freezer burn I would be more alarm if the package was puffed up you know like full of air that's definitely bad,but it's really up to your discretion you know what they say when in doubt throw it out

I went to a food bank for the 2nd time. I have diabetes and I am trying to figure out how to cook.I got a ton of Canned Green beans but had to be selective. They had breaded pollack fish sticks.
I'm very sorry. Yes I have diabetes as well and it is definitely challenging. I was able to see a nutritionist many years ago when I had gestational diabetes with my son, so I have some recollection of ideal meals. It is challenging trying to meal plan, with this disease, while eating what we are given. I completely understand. I recommend talking to the food bank and mentioning that you are diabetic and need less foods with sugars and carbohydrates. Maybe they can help with that. I go to pantries......People are ashamed I don't know why .I am NOT on SNAP and I work.....So,Why shouldn't I get some help?People always think Food pantries are for only low income.I work and still maybe low income .I don't qualify for stamps. So I try to get make due with what I get. And most assuredly people on on stamps eat better than me so there you have it
We cant get hygiene products in Greeley Colo food bank, because the people that work in the office & in the back room take it all. I stood & watched them. How sad that is.

There are many definitions of the word haul. I think you may be taking this word out of context. I'm just stating it's a large amount of items brought in from the food bank. You're right, of course they are a blessing and I give my thanks to God everyday.

I'm sorry you are upset about this. If you are struggling, there might be help for you as well. Call around and check it out. The donations from these pantries are not from the government. This is food donated from the community in our County. People helping other people out. There are also a lot of Churches that help out communities that you might want to stop at.
I have worked since I was 13 years old, a total of 19 years, but 3 years ago found out about some health issues that prohibit me from working. My husband works a full time job but, just like you, find it hard to pay for food. That is why we qualify for the pantry.

Hi Sheila, I'm sorry for the confusion. Having a cell phone in my family was a big financial decision to make. We went back and forth on how we could avoid it and even try to drop cost. We even received financial advice from a kind woman at our Church. Ultimately, we decided it is necessary for me or my son to have a way to communicate in case of emergency. I am diabetic, among other health issues, and it is important to have a way to call for help if ever needed. Yes, cell phones can be costly, however, we believe it to be an absolutely, necessary thing to have in our family. I have had my son call for help in the past when my sugar dropped to a dangerous level. There are assistance programs for low income people, and/or Senior citizens to aquire a cell phone. If you are struggling to purchase food, you can reach out to a food bank or pantry and see if they are able to assist you. I hope this helps clarify things. God Bless you 🙏

Ground turkey is not a red meat - it's a white meat, so it appears lighter/grayer than what you'd think. It's not ground beef -it's fine!
The turkey looks okay to me. I would use it for tacos or chili, when you use turkey you will want to season it. The haul is a blessing.

I went to a food bank for the 2nd time. I have diabetes and I am trying to figure out how to cook.I got a ton of Canned Green beans but had to be selective. They had breaded pollack fish sticks.
I'm very sorry. Yes I have diabetes as well and it is definitely challenging. I was able to see a nutritionist many years ago when I had gestational diabetes with my son, so I have some recollection of ideal meals. It is challenging trying to meal plan, with this disease, while eating what we are given. I completely understand. I recommend talking to the food bank and mentioning that you are diabetic and need less foods with sugars and carbohydrates. Maybe they can help with that. I go to pantries......People are ashamed I don't know why .I am NOT on SNAP and I work.....So,Why shouldn't I get some help?People always think Food pantries are for only low income.I work and still maybe low income .I don't qualify for stamps. So I try to get make due with what I get. And most assuredly people on on stamps eat better than me so there you have it

We cant get hygiene products in Greeley Colo food bank, because the people that work in the office & in the back room take it all. I stood & watched them. How sad that is.

Unfortunately, I only have medication for nerve pain, which is only a quarter of my problems. I have cervical and lower lumbar injections coming up, so I'm pumped for those. Once you're able to contact the nearest agency, you will need to ask what information you will need to bring with you and if there are any guidelines to receiving help. In my experience, there are foodbanks that will help if you are in need, regardless of situation. I hope this information helps and you are able to get the help you need.

There are many definitions of the word haul. I think you may be taking this word out of context. I'm just stating it's a large amount of items brought in from the food bank. You're right, of course they are a blessing and I give my thanks to God everyday.

I'm sorry you are upset about this. If you are struggling, there might be help for you as well. Call around and check it out. The donations from these pantries are not from the government. This is food donated from the community in our County. People helping other people out. There are also a lot of Churches that help out communities that you might want to stop at.
I have worked since I was 13 years old, a total of 19 years, but 3 years ago found out about some health issues that prohibit me from working. My husband works a full time job but, just like you, find it hard to pay for food. That is why we qualify for the pantry.

Hi Sheila, I'm sorry for the confusion. Having a cell phone in my family was a big financial decision to make. We went back and forth on how we could avoid it and even try to drop cost. We even received financial advice from a kind woman at our Church. Ultimately, we decided it is necessary for me or my son to have a way to communicate in case of emergency. I am diabetic, among other health issues, and it is important to have a way to call for help if ever needed. Yes, cell phones can be costly, however, we believe it to be an absolutely, necessary thing to have in our family. I have had my son call for help in the past when my sugar dropped to a dangerous level. There are assistance programs for low income people, and/or Senior citizens to aquire a cell phone. If you are struggling to purchase food, you can reach out to a food bank or pantry and see if they are able to assist you. I hope this helps clarify things. God Bless you 🙏
Wow Sheila. I have a cell phone with boost mobile, the phone was a whopping $60 and the service is $30 a month for unlimited everything. You sound really bitter, hope you get over that soon.
