    for everyone's info, those yeast that come in packets have a tendency to not work. if you want better results, get the yeast in the glass bottle...

      Dry yeast needs proofing, ie 1 sachet of yeast, 30ml warm water, 1 teaspoon of sugar in a bowl. Give it 10-15 mins to thicken and froth.👍

    it finally worked for me!!! I had been trying to proof my yeast and went through 10 little packets and non foamed. I ended up getting the yeast that comes in a glass bottle and it foamed so beautifully. So my guess is that I had a bad batch or was doing it wrong with other mixtures and this one worked! thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @caraea2314
    @caraea2314 Рік тому +8

    If it isn’t foaming try microwaving it a bit, as the temperature may not be hot enough (even if your thermometer says it is). I thought mine was, but the yeast wasn’t doing much of anything, so I microwaved the mixture in increments until I saw some foaming action, then microwaved it a bit more as it didn’t seem like enough, and now it’s foaming pretty well. Worth a shot before you throw it out.

    Thank you for sharing this and yes, yeast really is, in fact, alive. It's a one-celled member of the fungus family, and when you add water to it and give it a little sugar for food, the organism "burps" and releases carbon dioxide-the gas that makes the bag puff out and makes sodas fizzy and bread fluffy.

    I am so baffled by this brand of yeast. I used to make breads and bagels all the time in my 20s and 30s and never had a problem with dead yeast from the packets. NOW, it seems that it's always dead. I'm going to try the warmer water and the sugar. But, if that doesn't work I'm done with Fleischmans.

    I've been buying the Fleischmann's in the bottle. I had good luck with it in the past but I recently made some bread and it was a flop because of the yeast so I proofed it and it was performing horribly. I set it in front of my space heater such that it warmed it (without getting it hot) constantly and it eventually got active just enough that I thought I'd give it a shot. I'll let you know what the result is. I think most of the yeast was dead but some were hanging on.

    I've tried 6 times to make a soft yeast bread. At first I used Walmart's brand - it never bubbled.
    So finally I bought some Fleischmann's active dry yeast and it never bubbled. All the yeast was
    in date by far, but it never bubbled. I have no clue what else to try. I've used active dry yeast
    in the past and it bubbled.

      It’s possible your thermometer (if you’re using one) isn’t reading correctly. I thought mine was at an acceptable temperature, but not much was happening, so I decided to microwave the mixture in increments (start small) to see if that would work, and I got some foaming/bubbling action.

I suddenly have a craving for sausage rolls and have all the ingredients, except the stupid yeast is DEAD! This is a terrible video. WHy would I want to waste an entire envelope to see if it proofs? Why not use ¼ tsp and a pinch of sugar in the warm water. How do you use the proofed yeast. (Ummm, you would substitute the water mixture for the same amount of water used in the recipe, right? In this case, ¼ cup.) What if the recipe uses more of less than the packet of yeast? Do I have to dissolve the entire envelope as described here? Sheesh! A company that can't even explain how to use its own product clearly.
