Okay I could see the Mario and Luigi games but Paper Mario? Mario has LESS personality there than ever before. Story’s good though.
The mario RPGS showed LOTS of personality on the characters like peach, luigi, starlow, Ect.

David Sloth I have something : in M & L superstar saga, Mario eats a bad Mushroom, and he becomes sick. Luigi have to go find some kind of heal into the ruins. But like the Coward he is, he was'nt even able to quit the village, because he isn't even able to jump, cause of the fear. He goes to a Magikoopa's house who says to make him brave : You're as brave as Mario, as strong as Mario, you are Mario ! ( something like that ). This is what I found for Mario's personality. If I made any mistakes, I'm sorry, but I'm a french guy.

The Mario and Luigi RPGs had A LOT of personality! From Mario and Luigi to Bowser!
Surprisingly, the game "Fortune Street", while being only text dialog, actually gives Mario more personality as a supportive(even to his enemies at times), optimistic, and just overall pretty kind person (with what I feel might be some hints of sarcasm and a joking side). That's what I personally feel, Fortune Street is definitely a favorite because of the fact it actually draws something onto the blank slate he's had for so long.
Mario believes in one philosophy. "Keep it simple, stupid."

The Mario & Luigi RPGs have pretty damn good stories, and actually do give depth to the characters.

When I was like 7, I loved that Mario cartoon
The Super Mario Bros. movie might have been a little campy at times but i don't regard it as a bad movie at all. i think it has just become "the cool thing to say." It was a fun movie. the mario and luigi characters portrayed in that movie were great... Hoskins and Leguizamo were great in those roles and i loved watching them play those characters. lets not forget this was 1993; we knew a lot less about our beloved plumbers. they played off of each other very well and gave a third dimension to characters that were still 2D.
It was a good attempt at something that had very little story. it was an interesting plot and it tied Mario and Luigi into the real world. This is seriously hard to do with giant mushrooms and dinosaurs roaming the video games. The mechanics of the movie was about as real as any superhero movie, mystical powers from a meteor... there was a lot to be explained about it, but it didn't concentrate heavily on how the rock worked...
the way the gombas looked and the lack of toads was an issue and could have used a little more depth but bringing in the super jumping, the reason there were mushrooms all over the place, bobombs, and even giving yoshi a little bit of a story (although not making him big enough to ride was a mistake) was fantastically creative. i would classify this movie as good as the original teenage mutant ninja turtles movie in the sense that 'of course it's not real' it wasn't meant to be real. fusing in a world where certain things are possible and meshing it with where we live is fun and it was fun to think about.
I know I will get hate for this but, I actually enjoyed it when I was younger.

Actually nowadays Bowser has tons of stuff from his sociopathic youth. He stole Yoshi's magical fruit tree from the Yoshi tribe for what seems to be poops and giggles. - Also clearly in love with Peach. The poor girl clearly doesn't return his feelings; unless the idea that she is a chess-master is true, which makes sense because she easily clears obstacles courses in both 3D World and her own game. (Plus she volunteered from a time-travel experiment, so she's clearly brave.)
Actually most Mario characters have surprising depth with the exception of Mario. You could do a much more in depth one of these if you picked Luigi. He's torn intensely between his love and envy of his brother, his cowardice and his sense of justice. You really shouldn't judge all the characters from his universe based on Mario.
You could have made this far more interesting with that comparison.
Oh, and Toad as a species very strongly seem to wear a hat of blind reverence to Peach, its rather creepy. Though at least Captain Toad (though cowardly) and a few other Toads seem willing to adventure while others would rather have a Thwomp dropped on them.
Yoshi is similar but as a species they seem to have a number of fascinating traits in terms of personality and behaviour. Very much a herd animal but also seemingly rather sentient. Raises questions about how that mentally would be different from that of a pack animal like us that had reached sentience.
So in short, don't you dare attack Toad, Peach, Luigi, Bowser, or Yoshi for Mario's short comings.

Having a video on that I think would work really well and it's definitely not something any of us would have thought of, so thank you!
Twilord Actually Mario has plenty of personality in SM RPG in the form of a mime act. In fact, Mario has plenty of personality in all the rpgs.
There needs to be a Wii/WiiU port of Super Mario 64 *DS*.

I think you are very incorrect about Mario games being short on plot and character development. The RPG titles for example gave so much plot and character development that it's impressive for a Mario title, take Luigi for example. He had some great character development in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.
There's a reason why he never mentioned the Mario and Luigi or Paper Mario series. Because those are spinoffs. He's saying throughout the main games, Mario has no character.

There are 2 mario's , jumpman is mario's father as Pauline is possibly mario's mother , the original DK is Cranky Kong , by original lore and the DK from Donkey Kong Country returns is his son , the newer mario is seen as a baby in yoshi's island series , and in Yoshi's island ds there is baby DK which means mario is around the same age as DK and I know its the new one as the new one wears a tie . Jumpman is also a carpenter and mario is a plumber .

The original DK is current DK's father. Cranky is old DK's dad. Donkey Kong Junior is current DK.
GLT Gman wait I got puzzled . Cranky is dk's grandfather while dk junior was modern dk's father . If dk junior was saving the original dk while he was still modern dk's age that means modern dk wasn't even born . And idk why dk junior didnt make an appearance in later games .
It's confusing. The DK in the original arcade game is modern DK's dad. Modern DK is the one you see in DKC. Modern DK is DK Junior. The original arcade DK's dad is Cranky Kong, thus making modern DK his grandson.

Oh dear god not one of you... The illeged brainless followers of "MatPat" which take everything he says as fact even though his show is called gameTHEORY. A theory is an idea that hasn't been proven true or false. The theory hasn't been proven, so don't take it as fact. The only way it could possibly be proven is if the game devs came out and said "You caught us redhanded, Mario is indeed cuckoo for cocoa puffs" And that thing about punching Yoshi's? It's all just interpretation. Yeah sure, the sprite art can look like he's punching Yoshi, but it also could look like he's pointing at where he wants the Yoshi to stick his tongue. Which one do you think is more likely in a game marketed towards younger audiences? I'm not bashing on MatPat, but don't just take everything he says as fact when it's simply just ideas. That's not why he makes the series.

The real story is that the creator makes the same story over and over again by having you save Peach but with a different background story and still make bucks off of that without really lifting a finger, now that's one lazy game creator.

Wow...I didn't care about half of these characters before I watched these videos. These videos are some of the best celebrations of character lore I've ever seen. Now I want to troll you to release these more often lol! They're that great!

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show was awesome. At least in comparison with everything else I've ever seen on TV. Good episode though, I always wondered why I love Mario games while challenging game developers to make their games less interactive movie.

Yoshi has a reason for doing what he does.If the stork didn't get ambushed by Kamek then he really wouldn't have much of an important role and just be another character that Mario befriended for no reason.Yoshi's parent saved Mario & Luigi,Peach,DK,and Wario from danger.I'm pretty sure he's not a depth-less character when Mario and friends relies on him and his species when it comes to great dangers.His island got rotted when the super happy tree was stolen and all Yoshi's were in danger except 8 babies were born including Yoshi being born and went through danger to get the tree back and saved the island.So could you do a Yoshi one?It'd be a short one but it would also be nice to give people and fellow fans knowledge about him and his character and species.
