The film centres around the music of Irish singer songwriter Damien Dempsey but also turns the lens onto his fans. Every Christmas in Dublin, the crowds gather for Damo’s Christmas gig at Vicar Street. For many, these shows have become a cathartic ritual, a safe space where emotions can be laid bare. Through the prism of the concert, we meet Dempsey and three members of the audience. We hear their stories, unravel their grief and find the light in the darkness through communal art.
With themes of addiction, loss but also hope and positivity, Dempsey’s music often reflects his fans' pain, alleviates their anguish and ultimately provides peace as they ‘sing all their cares away’.
Part documentary, part concert film, Love Yourself Today is an emotive celebration of modern spirituality and the power of music to heal.

Almost choking up watching this! Like all those folks in this trailer, I’ve been following Damien Dempsey & his music for many years. He has given me some of the best times of my life but his music has also helped me through hard times. He is a healer, not only a great singer but also a great human being. What I’d give to go back to Vicar St right now with him and the crowd (last time I went was in Dec 2018 with my parents & 1 of my best pals!) Cannot wait to see this documentary. See you soon Damo. Can't wait to see this. I go every year to Vicar Street and it is an emotional journey each time. I always come away from the gig uplifted. Damo is a great singer and human being who connects so well with people.

This video came to me this morning, when I woke up feeling so low.
I took a notion to learn the lyrics and chords to Damo's song "To hell or barbados"
Then I found this video too and it has lifted my heart and strengthened my soul.
I got my own medical records from my GP last week through the freedom of information act.
I am the mother and family carer to a son who has suffered from schizophrenia for many years and i have done my best to care for him.
What is said about myself in my own medical notes and what has been shared among employees of the HSE makes me out to be a risk to staff and mentally ill myself.
When will the irish state be stopped from scapegoating the mothers, criminalising us and trying to lock us up, either in jail or psychiatric units simply for loving our children enough to be angry when they are treated like shit?
Other people can say what they like about me.
I know I am speak from the heart without fear and if the irish public servants don't like it, then that is their problem.
They all hate to see the power of the love between a son and his mother.
Because they have no real power except the mandated ones that they misuse to cover up their own wrongdoings and stigmatise the real carers.
I love myself today.
I really really love myself today.
Because I love my people.
I love Damien's love for our people.
Heart is everything.
Never give in to the bullies who only share their negative vibes cos that is all they have to give.

I loved this film so much!!! It's one of my favourite films ever :) Really what I needed. And! The title is perfect. Cause I'm always thinking 'I'll love myself one day...' 'I'll love myself in thee future' LOVE YOURSELF TODAY!! (Also they are some of Damien's lyrics)!
