I took a chance on the Verum 1 mk2 (got them from Danny at GR-Research), which I believe were engineered to match the LCD X. I cannot justify the 1k cost of Audezes, but the Verums live up to the hype (minus production issues some have had). Definitely better than my HD650s and Elegia. First time I almost felt like I was listening to speakers, not headphones.
I haven’t heard Verum, but won’t ever own any either. I know some really like them. The new Audeze are less like the old LCD 2 in my video. Less mid suck-out and more even response.
"...that are no longer made this way, without fazors..." audeze 2 classic, they are made without fazors. the 2 has them, 2c does not. no they are not identical to the 2.2 but you can get modern LCD2s without the fazor.
Audeze LCD 2.2, yes the cable went out twice, yes the wood split on me, and yes they were my favorite headphones of all time.
You're spot on with this review of the pre fazor. Nice one.

I'm really torn on 2, 3 or x for my metal listening
The subdued highs on the LCD-2 are really good for metal. Drivers are fast, but won't kill your ears.

The modern LCD-2s without the fazor is the LCD-2 Classics, which are not like these at all.
