I gave up and always carry bait after I used my first item recovery service to get bait back after loosing about 20 pieces, forgoing about 15 pieces of copper, dying on floor 14 for the 4th time. I still only have the 3 CC pots but next mining trip is to make more crab pots with trapper now that I got it.
@hollywoodburford a whole chest might merit having a small casual processing spot with 1 or 2 furnaces and even more recycling machines for the trash the crabpots provide. After watching some other creators do floor-ganizingI'm thinking of taking a recycling machine to the mountains or beach for fishing trips. 🎣 not exactly happy about throwing out trash on fishing trips.
Came here to say this!! I found it so tedious to withdraw bait from a chest or my fishing rod on the way to the crab pots: with 5-ish bait bins, I can just hold down a single button to run past the bins, run past the pots, and then “deposit all” into my crab pot chest at the end of the docks. The less I have to futz in a menu, the happier I am.
You can also get the Crab Pots from the Crab Pot bundle in CC without any fishing XP! Crab can be obtained by killing a crabshell in the Mines, and anything else can be found at the beach. Worst case scenario is that you'll maybe need a lobster or something from the cart. But that way, you can passively gain XP without ever touching the rod. UPD: Ghostfish also drops from enemies, IIRC specifically from ghosts.
This is what I did in my first playthrough, I had no interest in crabpots because they're too much work to check and bait everyday, I got most of the CC bundle from things washing up on the beach.
I think it's mostly because of how ABYSMALLY SMALL the fishing bar starts out. That's why I buy the Training Rod on new saves A single Carp at normal will earn the money back, and with so few inventory spots, you can fish for quantity over quality early on.

Fun fact: the max distance for casting used to matter. The rules for what you could obtain in treasure chests used to be determined by your fishing level and distance cast, with some items being locked behind max distance casts . This was changed to the current system that gives items based on how far you are from shore.
Hi guys, I just wanted to throw in this little strategy for easily catching any fish at all, even legendary fish. Get an iridium rod, apply cork bobber for essentially +3 levels (as said in the video.) Then, upgrade your iridium rod in the forge to get Master, which gives you a +1 level when holding your rod, meaning your base is now 11. And finally, if you make seafoam pudding, WHILE having Mr Qi Seasoning in your inventory, it gives you +5 fishing instead of +4. In total, this strategy gives you +9 fishing levels for a total of level 19! So I believe this causes you to have almost 40% of the ENTIRE FISHING GAME covered with your bar. Also, for making seafoam pudding, you CAN find flounder AND midnight carp at their respective times. M Carp on north of the island, and flounder south and west. So this means you can get the ingredients year round, pretty handily.

I really get the vibe that you thought everything trough - you developed a great concept for these videos and everything (from the animations in the beginning, over the complete charts, up to the quality of your voice recording) is just sooo good. Thank you for creating and uploading such great content!
People not liking the fishing minigame is both understandable and hilarious to me, particularly with crab pots being a good way to level the skill up without actually fishing. It’s the crab pots I don’t like using, not the fishing.
Little fun fact, the trap bobber is undeniably the best bobber to catch hard fish, but some could argue that the cork bobber is equal. But seriously, use the trap bobber for any difficult fish you struggle with
Holy days, what a massive guide you have created right here! Absolutely huge respect for the digging and work that has been put into this video. Truly inspirational!
Literally started up my playthrough last week, this series couldn't have come at a better time! Truly the best and most concise stardew content out there, thanks a bunch :)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Salmence, this is a truly excellent guide! I am very impressed. At first, I like others, struggled so much with finishing that I made a whole new farm to practice fishing on. I now really enjoy fishing and am currently working on a co-op with my daughter where we eventually plan to have a crab pot for every fish in the game. I recently introduced my mother to the game and will be sending your guides to her. I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for your hard work.
Your fish charts have helped me and my siblings more than you can know, thank you so much, I love your videos so much, there what encourage me too play stardew more
Just to add some info. Getting a perfect gives a 2.4× multiplier. Which is why speedrunners buys the training rod to power level their fishing early on
I found your earlier guides just yesterday. What great timing with this video! I'm looking forward to your Mining and Combat videos as well, you do a great job aggregating the information in a concise way.
Phenomenal video Sal. I found I really enjoyed the fishing minigame when I got the game about a month ago, and I was really looking forward to this part of the series-it did not disappoint! I will note a couple minor errors. And I do mean very minor.: A Sunfish Pond will occasionally produce Solar Essence. This is included on your Spring Fish chart, but is absent on the Summer Chart The Blobfish, and therefore its Roe, are equal in price to the Ice Pip. The Ice Pip is much easier to get, of course, and so is the better recommendation of the two in most cases. but from a profit perspective their Ponds are roughly equivalent. Tiger Trout do not reproduce in fish ponds. They are sterile, much like real life Tiger Trout, which are the result of cross-breeding between two different species, much like mules.
Has anyone else had lava eels that wanted a “dwarf scroll IV”? You should also make a cooking video, where you show of where to get EVERY recipe, and how to make them is something
By god USE THE TRAINING ROD!!! I hated learning fishing with just the bamboo pole but WOW does the training rod make a HUGE difference when you are beginning. I used it until I was level 2 in fishing and it helped so much.
Also if people really want to use fish ponds and farm animals, but are short on space, you can use the fish ponds as "fences" or barriers to separate the farm animals in areas.
Oh boy…I love fishing but it took me so long to get the hang of the mini game XD. I find it so addictive especially when there’s treasure chests. If y’all are looking for a great way to pretty much guarantee a treasure chest with each cast, use the Pirate profession at level 10 with an iridium rod with magnet bait and a treasure hunter tackle. They all stack meaning there’s a lot of treasure to be found.
Just started the game. Thank you so much for this video, it really helped make sense of the various minigames and though I am pretty new to fishing overall, I find myself actually liking it a lot. Thanks, again.
Lovely video as always. Surprised to hear many people don't use the lake much. It's my favorite early game money spot. Largemouth and Bullhead are solid money and especially Bullhead aren't that hard to catch when learning the ropes. Edit: Also the Carp can both be sold for less money but still some, or eaten to keep fishing for the others. Love the lake. 😁
Dude I literally started back up on my first farm yesterday to complete the community center and ALL I have left are some of the fish…. This is perfectly timed for my life LOL😊
I've been playing this game for a long time and I'm still learning so much from your videos! Thank you for all the hard work and time you took into creating this amazing guide for us!! :)
I love fishing in Stardew, i find it relaxing and challenging at the same time, the other day I was so happy because I lasted a few days fishing and I was able to catch all the fish there is in the summer (including the octopus), because I had recently obtained the fishing channel :)
Maybe I misheard you, but in fact Midnight Carp are available at both the Mountain Lake and the Cindersap Forest Pond. You can also catch them in the Forest Farm ponds (along with the Woodskip), and of course in freshwater on Ginger Island. I love crab pots mainly for making Fish Stew, which I think is the most useful fishing buff food for most situations. It gives 3+ fishing and lasts nearly all day.
I would add two things that came to my mind while watching the video : 1. You can catch midnight carp in the pond next to the island farm on ginger island, very nice in order to get to a bed before passing out. 2. You can stack up a lot of crabpot fish and swap to angler before selling. Late game, I find it the easiest way to make money out of fishing because you don't spend as much time catching a lot of crabpot fish as you do with regular fishing.
treasure chests are honestly insane, totally understand if people think im making this up, but i've once gotten an iridium band in the first two weeks of year 1.
Nice. Thank you for the great work. I definitely have a new goal in my RPG-Style savestat. Collecting the ponds with different colours. That be awesome. Also, you really made me laugh when you went 'And okay. Well, there's a few more fish, *sigh* who would've - more fish?? Crazy!!' :D I have been a very nerv-wrecked and grim person for the last 20 years or so, and I laugh rarely, so that's definitely a compliment to you. :)
I have to share my happiness with the new 1.6 update. Started Riverlands farm so I got the fish smoker. Supercharged fishing; caught LMB and catfish and smoked them with as much coal as I could get my hands on. Choose profession for more fishing moneys. Pick up a Trout Soup (+3 fishing) at the Trader when I was at 6 fishing, and I'm thinking, "Okay, if I get to seven or higher by the next rainy day, I'll go try and catch the Legend." (Never managed this on Year 1 before). Get to fishing 8 before the next rainy day, Spring 19. Run and buy the iridium rod (hadn't managed it yet) and a trap bobber, attach all my deluxe bait, head up to the mountain lake, chow on my soup, start casting. Takes about six or seven casts to hook him, and I pull him in without TOO much trouble. Gold Quality. So I smoke him. Sell him. 18750 G. I know I could have made more money if I had waited for Artisan and for the Angler profession. But this infusion of cash in Week 3 of Year 1 was huge for me. I bought both the saplings (Apple and Pomegranate) and the second backpack upgrade straight away. It was super exciting. Thank you, ConcernedApe!
fishing has always been my favorite thing to do in games, i have always liked the ocean in games, as well as more water related features in non ocean/ fishing games
I can't seem to find if you mentioned it (sorry if you did and I missed it) but treasure chests being caught actually give a 2.2 xp multiplier. Which also stacks with the 2.4 xp multiplier from a perfect catch. Also, fish quality gives extra xp (3 for silver, 6 for gold, 12 for iridium), however the "perfect catch" bonus quality doesn't give that extra xp (the quality bump from the quality bobber does tho). Another note, you left Catfish on the Summer chart. Amazing guide to fishing! Definitely gonna use the charts to reference for the future!
I always love these videos, the level of detail you go into is wonderful and the tables are very useful for organizing information. Really enjoyed this one, thank you for making it!!
Thank you so much! I still have have about 6 more fish to collect for the community center and it is completely done for me, but I had no clue when to catch these fish and was just trying all day every day. But now I can try at the right times. But that means hoping it rains because I don't have the supplies to get a rain totem lol
Cannot stress highly enough installing the fishing made easy mod if you struggle with the minigame- there’s a lot of options in there but you can play a nearly-vanilla run by just making fishing a bit easier until you get better at the minigame through practice. I quit fishing at all pretty much in my first playthrough because of how bad I was at it, it was just so demoralizing and wasting my time/energy I didn’t bother and that locks you out of a ton of useful stuff! And now I’ve only set fishing like 40% easier so I still need to try (yes I’m that bad at it) but I can catch fish and I actually enjoy fishing now and sometimes even manage a treasure chest! Literally the most game-changing mod for me ever.

9:57 as of update 1.6.9 Legendary fish can now go in fishponds 😁😁
Little fun fact, the trap bobber is undeniably the best bobber to catch hard fish, but some could argue that the cork bobber is equal. But seriously, use the trap bobber for any difficult fish you struggle with
Holy days, what a massive guide you have created right here! Absolutely huge respect for the digging and work that has been put into this video. Truly inspirational!
Literally started up my playthrough last week, this series couldn't have come at a better time! Truly the best and most concise stardew content out there, thanks a bunch :)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Salmence, this is a truly excellent guide!
I’m new to the game and fishing is honestly the most fun part of the game to me.
Thanks my dude. Fishing is my fave. A lot of people have difficulty but it was easy for me so I just kept at it. Its relaxing and fun
9:30 Listen, Sturgeon are chaotic material girls who just want to make their ponds look pretty, leave them alone.
Overall an amazing informative video!
14:19 the crimsonfish is only found at level 6 and above
No it's level 5
@stego1128 ok I didn't know that salmence said it was level 6 in an old video
I don't think you could be more thorough. This was excellent
Best fishing video on the internet. Those seasonal charts were immensely helpful
Your fish charts have helped me and my siblings more than you can know, thank you so much, I love your videos so much, there what encourage me too play stardew more
So many fish I forgot I was watching an ultimate guide to fishing and not a list of all fish.
I'm not even kidding.
And I do mean very minor.:
A Sunfish Pond will occasionally produce Solar Essence. This is included on your Spring Fish chart, but is absent on the Summer Chart
The Blobfish, and therefore its Roe, are equal in price to the Ice Pip.
That would take even longer!
I JUST had the lava eels ask me for it. I had to grind the skeleton levels killing blue slimes for a couple days.
I’m playing for the first time and was on the process of making a list of all the fishes I haven’t caught yet, this video came right on time!
Starew Valley has the best fishing mini game of any I've ever played! I enjoy it so much!
By god USE THE TRAINING ROD!!! I hated learning fishing with just the bamboo pole but WOW does the training rod make a HUGE difference when you are beginning. I used it until I was level 2 in fishing and it helped so much.
Heck, I'll use it until I can get the iridium rod. Catching fish with low skill is awful.
Crab Pot fish are great for quality fertilizer.
I tend to passively build them up over summer year 1 to have them ready for Fall year 1.
When the blob fish gives farm totems in the pond they will give 5. They also seem to give them more often then other fish's special drops
Fishing is my favorite thing to do and always the one I get to level 10 the fastest every time. I need a full fishing game I swear.
The woodskip is also found in the player’s ponds if they choose the forest
Forest farm might as well be a hack. Woodskip, free rare mushrooms and hardwood ... too easy.
Yes! Been waitin for this one! :D I honestly don't like fishing that much but I know it's important to the game lol. Thanks for the guide!
Bro, You're AMAZING! What a lovely series!
Thank you for giving us this wonderful video!
greetings from Brazil!
I love the spatial organization of this video, def subscribing
I'll be getting this game soon. These guides are very helpful.
Started playing Stardew Valley yesterday and now I'm completely obsessed with fishing
I just started SV and your guide videos have helped so much. Thank you! You have helped me love this game even more
I love fishing in Stardew, i find it relaxing and challenging at the same time, the other day I was so happy because I lasted a few days fishing and I was able to catch all the fish there is in the summer (including the octopus), because I had recently obtained the fishing channel :)
Legendary fish can be put in the ponds now
Maybe I misheard you, but in fact Midnight Carp are available at both the Mountain Lake and the Cindersap Forest Pond.
I love when I fish out of boredom and get a legend..."oh hey it got a face! I'm keeping it"
I would add two things that came to my mind while watching the video :
Absolutely brilliant series, wish this was here when I started playing stardew
I found your channel through these videos and I thought you had stopped doing them. So happy to see that I was wrong! Keep up the great work!
i am so bad at fishing and hate it a little so thank you so much for the help
I learned today that you can also get the woodskip on the forest farm, in the middle pond. Can't go past gold, though.
I love how every skill is present by a youtuber and you is the avatar . Really neat stuff😊
fishing has always been my favorite thing to do in games, i have always liked the ocean in games, as well as more water related features in non ocean/ fishing games
Just the layers of the intro were enough for me to like and subscribe
I was just beginning to have some questions concerning fishing and this video answered those questions perfectly.
The intro!! I'm dead 😂😂😂😂😂 majestically done 👍🏾
The intro is *chef’s kiss*!
0:25 creepy jumpscare alert
I always love these videos, the level of detail you go into is wonderful and the tables are very useful for organizing information. Really enjoyed this one, thank you for making it!!
Thank you so much! I still have have about 6 more fish to collect for the community center and it is completely done for me, but I had no clue when to catch these fish and was just trying all day every day. But now I can try at the right times. But that means hoping it rains because I don't have the supplies to get a rain totem lol
The alone deserves a like..how about the rest of the video?? Imagine how many likes it deserves
Huge efforts .. thanks buddy
I am so grateful for your channel! You do awesome work. Thank you!!
Thank you for the guides, Frankly, NOT way too much!
The series continues!
Fishing has to be my favorite thing about this game (fishing is my highest level skill)
Dude I just got into this game from game pass, ur videos have been so helpful n informative!! Keep it up man!
Love your guides!
13:13 Is it really "river + lake" or is it actually "ratio + loss"? 🧐
Thank you for your huge effort! I've been suffering with the fish tank bundle a lot.
This man doing the lords work
Cannot stress highly enough installing the fishing made easy mod if you struggle with the minigame- there’s a lot of options in there but you can play a nearly-vanilla run by just making fishing a bit easier until you get better at the minigame through practice. Literally the most game-changing mod for me ever.
you REFRENCED both AVATARS in one VIDEO and I LOVE IT 😫
YOUR INTRO IS MY FAVOURITE THING EVER. Thank you so much for this 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Also, you can catch the slimejack in the sewers in front of Krobus. Awesome stuff!
