Daggum, your hardy trees are really gettin a head start being in the greenhouse. The avatar grove and larch forest are so far advanced already! The French lilac bit is just friggen entertaining. Puts a smile on my face with every cameo.
I love to see a bench tour, they are always so informative and interesting - seeing what others have in their collections, what they are developing, what methods and techniques they are using, and where they see the trees developing. 👍
Such a huge family of bonsai - all grown by you... It's so incredible, to imagine the hours spent taking care of them! I've started with 6-7 this spring (some taken from the ground and others from larger pots). I learned some techniques of grooming the roots and it's amazing how plants adapt to the smaller bonsai pots. Successful new growth already. Thanks for sharing your experience and skills! It's nice to see the growth of your babies too.
Winter is tough. Some make it and some do not. But. What are ya gonna do? That's life. The ones that make it are the tough ones. You sure have a great team of tough bonsai, though, growing and are strong survivors. Super!
Love this garden tour, and wow, what a collection you have, so impressive ! It's also funny to watch spring coming 1 month after us here in France :p. This mistery plant looks like a Wisteria, the leaf system is quite similar, but i'm probably wrong. Happy spring time Nigel !
They are all,or at lest the most of them are florishing, that must be a good feeling, sure they're glacd to have you around,it shows! Good to see they do well, thanks for sharing!
Spring is a wonderful time of the year and I can hear the renewed excitement in your voice for the growing season, thanks for showing your collection, always an inspiration. It is midway through Autumn here, I am waiting for dormancy to re pot a few plants, and prune, wait out the winter and enjoy Spring again,
I remember a few years ago when I started following your channel you mentioned having 70-something trees. I feel like you’ve collected a few more trees since then.
Thanks for the bench tour, Nigel. On smokebush - I have two growing in the garden here in the UK, and it’s always one of the last come into leaf. My oaks in pots just starting to break out from buds, and maples have been out for a couple of weeks. So hopefully your smokebush may still have a chance!
Loved seeing that hybiscus in flower. It is a very beautiful one. Really enjoyed seeing the update video. So exciting to see everything beginning to grow in spring.
Amazing tree Nigel. I was actually going to suggest a wisteria bonsai, but it seems you beat me to it. Would you please dedicate some videos to the work you do on it, cause I have had nothing but failure with even just growing a wisteria out! Money into the compost bin! The ficus cirica is something I am also super keen on following, as I have a couple I'm working on. Looking forward to seeing you work on all the trees!
Very interesting. Your deciduous trees like the red maples and oaks (even your seedlings) are almost exactly in the same stages as mine. I live in Northern Florida :) So well done with extending your growing season with that green house! Thanks for sharing.
Your Desert Rose may have had a small injury to the root at the time of planting it a few weeks ago when I saw the video of that display. I have grown a lot of them from seed over the past 8 years with what you have shown today that plant doesn't have to end up in the compost heap. When the fungal disease causes the root to rot, if we scrap out all the decay letting it sit on top of a free-draining mix supported by normally a half-filled plastic pot the trunk will start producing new roots, that can then be cultured to radial roosts instead of the natural tap root. I have two plants currently that had too much water held in the organic part of the mix I use undergoing first-aid presently where I'm trying to reverse the decay we see initially as sponginess I'm doing the same as the above method left 20mm of mix in the bottom of 125mm plastic pots until they reharden.
Thanks for all the videos Nigel , I've learned so much about bonsai by watching them . I have a few Ficus questions that I would love to ask you . How does one get a hold of you ?
Do you ever use low stress training like how they do cannabis to any of your plants? As in tying the stalk directly to the side of the pot after tipping and allow only the arms to grow up and take over as your main branches while keeping the trunk bent over?
Can you please, give some advice how to grow ficus from cuttings? I’m struggling with that, I have a feeling, that they are not rooting at all, and I have tried it in water then in soil, but still nothing. Do I need to cut only fresh, new branches to do that?
Hi Nigel, loved the tour. I don’t recall hearing an update on your cottoneaster tree. How is it doing? Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe you don’t have one and I’m mistaken. If I am sorry about that. With love from Australia 🇦🇺
10:55 Hm, I was sceptical about your Japanese grey bark elm before, but now after having a closer look at its leaves etc. I'm even more sceptical... I'm not sure if there are different varieties but yours unfortunately doesn't look like a _Zelkova serrata_ to me. Its leaves shouldn't be that shiny and they should be a bit more pointy at the tip. I think if you do a quick google search, you'll see what I mean. I wonder what it actually is though...
Always gets me with the French lilac 🤣
So now I can add green house envy to my annual bench envy I suffer when touring your collection. Just beautiful. Thanks, keep growing

Thanks, I'll have to try, great advice!!
Hi Nigel, are your Baobabs still doing well (I do not recall seeing them in the update)?
Almonds need a lot of sun to grow well, put them outside in the greenhouse if you can
👍 Loving the Acacia's. Mine not as good but they are 1 year behind yours.
-Avatar Grove- is a capolavoro- most worthy of Greenhouse LIfe.
Oaks. Sprouting. Great. My Oak seeds are still fast asleep.

The snake scared me 😅
Have you ever exhibited the African style Serrisa?

Yes, I'm not sure either, there are 6 species in the Zelkova family, it might be one of them!
Hi Nigel, I have a couple of goodies to send you, how can I get them over to your good self? Do you have a P.O box?
how are the lithops?
They are doing well, not many changes to them lately, I'll have to put them out in the greenhouse soon!
