    Japanese Maples, Junipers etc. are fantastic, but Bonsai with native trees is wonderful, too. I hope everything will be healthy and thrive!

    14:50 "... a stick in a pot ..." Welcome to my world. I have about six sticks in pots on my front porch that I've been talking to each day, encouraging them to do *something*.

    I like the nightshade theme music. mynsister-in-love, who really dislikes dirt, dug up a maple seeding from her yard to give me yesterday. the bog forest is still my favorite.

      Awesome Diana, those maple seedlings are great trees to learn techniques on and they can even become nice bonsai as they mature!!

    im starting to like maples. why is it called a root maker pot

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 роки тому +1

      It has ribs inside that prevent roots from circling around the pot. The ribs direct the roots to a hole that then air dries the root tip and creates more root division inside the pot. It's similar to growing the tree in a colander, but it guides the roots better.

    Does Canada have the same issues with Dutch Elm disease and Emerald Ash Borers as the US? I would assume so. I live in Wisconsin and both the elms and the ashes have been basically knocked out completely.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, both species are very rare now.

    I love oaks but where i live we get cool winters and in nature oaks have deep roots in a frost free level and when i keep em in pots i get cold roots so my oaks are the only trees i need to protect in winter

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 роки тому

      Good thinking Anders, yes I think they need good protection in winter!!

    Always love gettin into the roots with you, brother. Very satisfying.
    Hey, I notice you are slow to get your spruce out of soil and into substrate. Is this just a timing issue? Or is there a particular reason you keep them in soil?
    Great updates all around! Looks like you navigated spring better in your area than many others on YT in your region.

      If you had a big refrigerator to keep it in over winter. They need to go through a cold dormant type of period. Maybe if your friends with someone with a walk in cooler. Local offsale or meat processing plant.🤷‍♂️ probably best to just get a Ficus and name it “Maple”. Oh, our Mable.👍😉

      @@danbehrens1621 wow what a solution 😂😂😂......... Both of them are hilarious 🤣🤣🤣 can't Stop laughing after reading the second solution. I'll apply second solution and will give one of my ficus Rumphii bonsai Maple name until I buy a four door refrigerator. If I use our medium size refrigerator my mom will expell me from house 😂

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 роки тому +2

      You could get out the scissors and prune your Ficus leaves into maple leaf shapes!! It would probably fool people!

    Hi Nigel great video as always! Could you maybe do a little shout-out to the channel GrowingBonsai? It's a small channel from a guy named Jelle in Germany. There aren't that many good channels from Western European growers and his content is great. Sadly he doesn't get as much viewers as he should. Thanks :)
