Forrest, if Paul was your brother, you can be supremely proud of him and his contribution to the art of music. Not the nonsense we hear today, but the art. I wish that I could have know him.
So sorry for your loss. And his amazing talent is a huge loss to the music world. He deserved a lot more credit in the public eye. Him and Chet played so well together with their matching styles.
Paul Yandell had to be one of the most humble guys who has lived. His playing is about one of the nicest I've ever heard. He never stole the limelight, but he should have been in the limelight more. Beautiful piece here.
I was lucky enough to meet Paul (albeit very briefly) on the stage of Her Majesty's Theatre in London 1982 after Chet's concert there. He certainly was the perfect sideman for Chet, and probably remembered more of Chet's old tunes than Chet could muster up. He was very informative and always replied to questions fired at him on the Chetboard. He, Chet and Jerry (Reed) are greatly missed in this household. Mike
I remember sitting with Paul in the summer of 2001 (guitar players know this summer) listening to him tell stories of the old days. Tears rolling down my face listening to him play. I was moved forever.
It was actually June 30, 2001. I remember because it was my birthday. June 30, 1989 my grandfather died. Two men who had a profound effect on my life in completely different ways both taken on that last day of June.
I've listened to Paul ever since he was a kid playing in Mayfield Kentucky on local radio there. Used to monitor Forrest and Paul working morse code on ham radio when Forrest was in Clear Springs, Ky and Paul was making music in Nashville. Both were ham radio operators. Forrest introduced me to ham radio as well. When I moved to Nashville Paul sold to me his Heathkit Apache transmitter...my first transmitter . Still have it and in good condition and won't ever part with it. Paul and Forrest good folks!
Worked a show once with him and Jerry Reed. Watching Paul warm up back stage, was one real treat. Wish we could have picked a few, or at least gone fishin' together. What a talent, and what a great personality. RIP.
Paul Yandell was as classy a gentleman as was his playing. Never met him face to face but had the privilege to exchange some emails with him. For someone of his stature, he was as down to earth and helpful as if he'd been my friend for years. Such generosity of spirit and massive talent are a combination we don't see much. He and Chet Atkins were a perfect match and it showed in their playing and the legacy they've left us.
Paul used to play for Kitty Wells, after the gigs he would have to drive the bus all night to the next gig. Got to shake hands with him at the Kentucky Theater after a Chet Atkins concert while he was clearing the guitars off the stage.
So many false things going around on UA-cam. Paul was my friend and a great guitarist. One of the greats. This statement about Chet not doing concerts is false. Chet was playing concerts and a guy named Jerry Shook was playing guitar for him. Chet hired Paul after Paul quit working for Jerry Reed and they were inseparable for 25 years. You people on UA-cam need to do your research a little better.
I really don't understand why a few guys in the UK aren't playing like this - it is such a nice melodic style - perfect for pubs and wedding recetptions. Perhaps its just too dificult for most guys?
Playing the melody so smoothly with perfect bass accompaniment is REALLY HARD Ha! I am a good guitar player, but this is very different and have spent a year trying to learn some of this style. Really good fun when it starts to click. Paul is fantastic as is Eddie Pennington, also love Larry Odhams playing
I agree, if you've never done it before it's a big learning curve. I tried doing it years ago when I first discovered Chet doing the House of New Orleans cover with Mark Knopler, but It was too much. In the pandemic, I really got into Merle Travis and practiced really everyday and now I can copy/play pretty much every tune they did.
Paul Yandell was the guitarist who made Chet Atkins sound Great. Nowhere in Wikipedia could I find (on Chet's Biography), the Mention of The Great Paul Yandell ! Jerry Reed, Tommy Emmanuel, Les Paul, and others are all mentioned, but not Paul Yandell ! Speaking for fingerstyle guitarists like myself, I think we could all see behind the scenes, who the uncredited musicians are. Though I am far younger than Paul, Chet, and the others, this style of Guitar is Best.
Bless you, my man. I just wish that everyone who ever heard Chet play could know this about 'the guitarist who made Chet', and that is not an overstatement. It is the truth if there ever was one. Not a day passes when I don't steal something from one of them or the other, or both.
I think you are making up some dynamic in your mind that didn’t exist. Chet never kept Paul down. That seems to be the implication from all the posts by you I see on videos of Paul. Chet made himself in 1947. Paul Yandell was a dear friend of mine and Chet were best friends and worked well together. Don’t make it out to be something it wasn’t. Paul was not uncredited.
After you've gone and left me crying, after you've gone - there's no denying You'll feel blue - you're gonna be sad You've missed the dearest pal that (slickest partner) you ever had There'll come a time - don't you forget it (Yeah) There'll come a time - when you're gonna regret it Some day when you get lonely Your heart will break like mine - (and) you'll want me only. After you've gone (split) - after you've gone away (flown the coop) After we paid - our dues together You should have stayed - through all that nasty weather Someday while you're feeling badly You'll need the only one that loves you so madly But I'll be gone - yes I'll be gone - to stay Yeah after I've gone - after I've gone away
Paul was a great guy, and Chet was nice to take him on playing gigs over a twenty-five-year period, but I think it's a gross overstatement to say that Paul made Chet sound great. Chet sounded great long before he met Paul.
Just learned that Paul Yandell was one of Chet’s CGP’s and it is very similar to Chet’s style of playing. Also he’s a Kentucky boy (Mayfield) so that’s always good!
Merle, Chet's daughter, awarded the CGP Award one last time to Paul Yandell after Chet's death. Afterwards, the Atkins' family discontinued any future granting of the CGP. Just a little trivia...😀
Ay, ResoWeiss this is great! But on Nine Pound Hammer, it starts out clear then it gets real muddy. can you re-post that so it's clear and fit the hole tune in. THANKS
Paul is now gone but not forgotten. I miss him so much. Never a better and more caring brother in this world than Paul.
Forrest

So sorry to hear that....still , youtube show how he performed this song so nice & simple. Rip Paul...!
Sorry for your loss. He was respected around the world by many
Forest. . Such kind words about your brother
I like his smile when the reverb fell into place perfectly.
Absolutely flawless, gorgeous performance of this tune. Smooth as glass. It gave me goosebumps on the back of my neck. R.I.P. Paul.

I never get tired of listening to this music. Paul is such a fine guitarist
Something about this brings me to tears...the song, the way Paul smiles while he plays, the fact that life...life just is. Beautiful.
Good to have feelings in the heart--I do the same thing often, just seeing the good someone else is doing. Several movies that can unbuckle me too.
I remember sitting with Paul in the summer of 2001 (guitar players know this summer) listening to him tell stories of the old days. Tears rolling down my face listening to him play. I was moved forever.
I can believe that. Because Chet left us on June 20, 2001, and it was never the same without him. Never will be.
It was actually June 30, 2001. I remember because it was my birthday. June 30, 1989 my grandfather died. Two men who had a profound effect on my life in completely different ways both taken on that last day of June.
I could listen to this man play all day long. R. I. P. Mr Paul Yandell
He was so smooth on the strings! Classic melodic technical perfection! So gentle on the ears and friendly to the heart!!
I've listened to Paul ever since he was a kid playing in Mayfield Kentucky on local radio there. Used to monitor Forrest and Paul working morse code on ham radio when Forrest was in Clear Springs, Ky and Paul was making music in Nashville. Both were ham radio operators. beautiful.....how people can give thumbs down is beyond me
the reason is, Ron, that Paul's artistry is beyond them ! That's why !
No cleaner, smoother and more musical guitarist than Paul Yandell. Inspirational.
Man the bass in that guitar is more than expected.
He's muting the bass strings for that added effect
Paul Yandell was as classy a gentleman as was his playing. Never met him face to face but had the privilege to exchange some emails with him. I don't know much about Paul but I know Chet liked him. That's good enough for me..
Can‘t stop smiling. The tone is so smooth and perfectly played
Paul Yandell plays an awesome finger-style guitar.
Mr. guitar (RIP) taught him well. I also miss Jerry (RIP) as well..
I've always loved the way Paul plays. Just puts my soul at ease.
Paul was a extremely talented clean fingerstyle player. A master musician and solid support for Chet. What an artist.
I’m so glad I got to see in Texarkana, Nashville, and Mountain View , Arkansas.
He was so nice he autographed three CDs I bought from him.
Paul used to play for Kitty Wells, after the gigs he would have to drive the bus all night to the next gig. Got to shake hands with him at the Kentucky Theater after a Chet Atkins concert while he was clearing the guitars off the stage.
What an amazing artist! I wish I knew what he had forgotten... Gone to soon 😞
"I wish I knew what he had forgotten.."
Yes Sir..I Like That.
Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent, country boy. R.I.P
Paul's magic touch...sublime.
What a great musician!
Been listening to Paul and Chet for over fifty years.Miss them both.
I finally found it, the song that my dad play so much during my childhood
oh my god! What an absolute peach of a song and played with such passion
How could 25 people not like this. :(
Awesome performance 👏 👌 what a world these folks lived compared to what we hear, just noise and air pollution in
Such a stellar picker. Amazingly clean and precise. There aren't many to replace the hole you left in the music world.
I cant' believe 28 people put a thumb down. They must be from Kabul.
That's peaceful and gently. Thank you.
Paul was THE perfect sideman to the legendary Chet Atkins. If I heard this song for the first time, I would think it was Chet playing it.
Saw him in concert with Chet once. Inspirational!
Nice to have these videos to remember and learn from the champions
One of the GPC's. Paul ,Jerry ,Tommy Steve and Chet.... He's in great company...RIP....
R.I.P. PAUL.....................THE LORD BLESSED YOU WITH
THIS TALENT. I LOVE COPYING YOU (AND CHET'S)
WORK. THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR GIFT.
Well said. The man behind Chet. Without Paul, Chet would have never agreed to play in concert.
..got that right...!

I wish I was this good. Such amazing music.
Excellent 👌 et quelle maitrise technique. Les accords de final sont magiques ! Merci pour le partage // 🎸🎸
I love everything about this video
Ben elegant l'home de Kentucky. Una versió magnífica.
I really don't understand why a few guys in the UK aren't playing like this - it is such a nice melodic style - perfect for pubs and wedding recetptions. Perhaps its just too dificult for most guys?
Chris Downing it’s pretty tough not gonna lie
Matt Cowe is fantastic

Beautiful clean delivery.
clean as a whistle and clear as a bell :)
MIGHTY FINE PICKIN'!!! That is some really smooth playing!!
So good. Makes me want to practice and quit at the same time
Absolutely gorgeous 🙍💃
Such tasteful playing.
beautiful...how can people thumbs down on this?????
More guys don't play like this for one simple reason---they can't!
What a great player he was!
this is heaven!
Just great! Thank you....
Just great!
I can play just as well as Paul Yandell... when I've trained for another 150 years.
Playing the melody so smoothly with perfect bass accompaniment is REALLY HARD Ha! I am a good guitar player, but this is very different and have spent a year trying to learn some of this style. Smooth playing.
Good job..👏 Warm cheers 😊 God bless 🙏🎸🎶
Paul always sounds so perfect...Jack Baker
Wasn't he though? Chet thought so too.
Rest in Peace, guitar warrior. 🎸
Perfect . . .
Outstanding!

Secondly Wikipedia is not a authorized biography. Chet had high praise for Paul.
@@gman4860 Chet said "He (Paul) can play anything I can and harmony to it."
@@carlmally6292 Yes I know the quote.
great job., Paul.
Fantastic Guitarist!!
Bravo, Paul!

Wonderful!
Ya so did I,, brilliant time's
He seems the great Chet Atkins! Very compliments!!!
Fantástico! 🎩
So doggone good...
Love it!
A fellow Kentuckian, Paul knew how to make a Gretsch talk to you.
Maybe in another life I can play like that
Paul was a great guy, and Chet was nice to take him on playing gigs over a twenty-five-year period, but I think it's a gross overstatement to say that Paul made Chet sound great. Chet sounded great long before he met Paul.

There used to be a recording of him playing “Anything Goes” but it got removed... if anyone finds it let me know :)

Ay, ResoWeiss this is great! But on Nine Pound Hammer, it starts out clear then it gets real muddy. can you re-post that so it's clear and fit the hole tune in. THANKS
I want that guitar
Wow. Could it be any better than this?
does anyone have this on disc?!!?!?! can't find ANYWHERE :(
1918 song so beautiful. Look up the lyrics to this song they are too realistic.
So many great modern versions of this song! I love it.
Yeah, it's too late to cry. . . . . .
I always wonder who downvotes this kind of videos, hahaha. I can only imagine a sick person with NPD having a rough day.
