Two years? Meanwhile here in Japan I got that twelve inches in two days. Actually about 10 inches in a day. And it happened more than once. I think I calculated I got the annual rainfall of London in about 2 weeks. And yet I still blame myself for why my garden fails...
We pick the tomatoes when they start turning because if we wait for them to turn red, the birds will get them. We then put them in paper bags. Bella Rosa bags done better out here in AZ than Gran Marshall, Hossinator, Red Snapper, Roadster, and Thunderbird. Bushsteak is tied with Bella Rosa for production, but we haven't done a taste comparison. Our tomato production out here is very compared to yours, but it's a struggle growing out here in the AZ desert.
Yellow dolls are my favorite. This is my second year growing them. Next time i am gona grow a bunch in my ground plot. I have grown them in raised beds so far. They out produced the sugar baby 4 to 1.
Made the best tomatoes in my life following the tips of you and your son’s older videos on tomatoes. Grew them from seed. Better boy, Big beef, San Mariano and my very first determinate Celebrity. Laid out a drip system and bought your injector. Injected every 2 weeks and sprayed weekly. Placed pine straw mulch. Thanks. Will have plenty in the freezer this year!
Oh my goodness, showing us those good looking ripe tomatoes again, and those bushes so healthy. I can just imagine a big fat juicy mater sandwich! Sure wish I was closer by. Y’all enjoy! 😋🍅🧂🥪❤️
My hossinators are still green. Don't even appear to be blushing yet. But, I can say that they have really impressed me so far as far as the plants themselves go. Not the first sign of any kind of disease on the leaves and as far as the fruit setting goes, they are LOADED down. So much in fact, one of my plants broke down because I didn't have it staked good enough and the weight of it broke the main stem in half. I went ahead and cut the top off and it continued to grow and fortunitely it broke off above the biggest tomato sets, so now they are growing to be MASSIVE in size and still growing. Plus, the plant doesn't seem to have slowed down none from adding new growth. Kinda looking forward to taste testing some of these because if they taste as good as they look, I believe I have found my favorite tomato variety. Not at all impressed with the other two varieties I bought, the Celebrity and the Mountain Fresh. They just aren't holding up to the Standards of the Hossinator. It's raised the bar extremely high this year.
My first year growing Hossinators. I’m very impressed with the size and condition of the vines compared to my other varieties. Just weighed one this morning at 1.012lbs. 🙃
Man, I can’t wait til my tomatoes are where yours are at. They’re kinda just hanging out green on the vine here in 7b. Now this week we are having 100* weather and dry. This has definitely been a challenge the past two years. Fantastic green bean and cucumber year! I miss my red snapper this year. They will definitely be back in my garden next year. Looking forward to Petals in September. 👩🌾💚👍🍅♥️
My Hossinators are loaded, had to add more stakes and more weave, lol. This is my first time growing them and I am excited for them to get ripe! I think I might have a new favorite 🤔 I do have several indeterminates that I will harvest early and let ripen on the back porch. Your garden looks like it took all of the rain pretty good. I was wondering about whether you have a single watermelon in your refrigerator, do they even make it into the house?? 😆🤣😆🤣 Thanks for sharing your wisdom on harvesting my tomatoes and watermelon.
There's no tomato better than one fully ripe from the vine, I'm watching the Hossinator closely because I can hardly wait to try it. I've been eating tomato sandwiches but I lost track of the variety, I know it's not the Hossinator because they are still very green.. I'm salivating over that watermelon you just cut open. Mine are just now blooming, I might have waited to late to plant mine but I had to clear up some garden space.
I apologize if you've already answered this, what do you use to keep pests like horn worms from your tomatoes? Those tomatoes look beautiful. And I might have to try yellow doll. Thanks Hoss.
We have not had any issues with them, below are a few tips: Handpicking is an excellent tactic for control if you have the time and patience, or a small garden. The caterpillars are not dangerous and can neither sting nor bite. If you are squeamish about crushing these large insects, drop them into soapy water instead (or feed them to your chickens, if you’ve got a flock). If the hornworm population or the area of your garden is too large, insecticides can be effective, though they should be a last resort. Insecticidal soaps will also kill hornworms, but the pests need to come into direct contact with the substance. To keep hornworms away from your tomato plants next year, try interplanting dill or basil; marigolds are also an excellent companion plant.
Wow 12 inches. Greg we need run off here where I live in Oklahoma. Greg have you ever planted Park whoppers CR. They are a indeterminate and come from South Carolina? I've had real good luck with them here.
yes, that's the real reason why tomatoes taste good from home garden. not because fertilizer or having to grow heirloom varieties. simply a matter of allowing them to mature and develop the sugars, which doesnt happen when picked green and synthetically ripened (made red) with gas. the gas is not bad, but it's not going to make the fruit have sugars.
Been waiting for my tomatoes to turn red.check um every morning 🌞
Them bell's get so much sweeter once they get red
Twelve inches of rain in ten days? That's more rain than I have had in two years running. Gardening in the desert brings its own challenges!
