The smaller faces help level out some of the proportion issues the original figure had. Kefla is one of the worst they did and I really hope someone gives a better version down the road. I really like the base head and is going to be how I display her until/if they do a resized Super Saiyan head. I REALLY wish we would have gotten all the new faces in each tin in each color instead of the chest. Hopefully a new one is done down the road that includes more base faces.

Yeah base hair is definitely the way to go so since she is too scrawny to be ssj2, and like you said it also helps the overall proportioning and big head syndrome. It’d be cool to see them make a refresh of this one and base it off of fighterz since the added muscle mass although slight would give more room for better joints too
She really needed to have more bulk/thiccness to her body.
I'm glad I got the figure and that it was made but the figures balance is just off, her body is closer to base Kefla.

Yea, this Kefla action figure has issue with crotch/diaper piece which really should be soft plastic to avoid the paint scraping.
I got two of her for standard figure and these upgrade kits.
Her diaper part also rattles lol
This is probably the biggest issue with her. Everything else is acceptable, but the fact that the legs are just... awful drags her way, way down. They could've given us 2.0 legs. They could've even given us 1.0 legs. But no, they gave us the worst of all words. 1.0 legs are outdated, but at least if they committed to that, she'd have a drop down which would allow them to move more and scrape less. This is a 1.0 leg without the positives that setup had.
The chest piece is not necessary, however i love it.

Those painted on white half moon shaped glistening "effects" on her teal pupils on the actual SHF faces are such a nice touch. They make them that more cartoon like. I hope we'll see that on other figures in the future. They should call the upgrade kit a "pervgrade" kit though.

While I get what they were going for, I don't think a simple head swap really works, to get across Base Kefla. She is buff as a Super Saiyan but has a pretty slim petite frame in her base form.
And unfortunately the SHF figure doesn’t hit either end lol

i think it does fit, the figure is too thin for super saiyan kefla, i know she's super thin in the anime but this is just way too much
I sold my Kefla a while ago. By far the biggest issue is the hard plastic crotch piece. If any company was going to do a proper upgrade kit for her, it would be swapping that thing out. It both damages the figure, and limits articulation.
The next worst part was the head. Her face is just comically oversized, which looked ridiculous, and it is incredibly heavy, making her difficult to pose effectively without a stand. So alternate heads would still be welcome by me. Even just another version of the Super Saiyan head that is smaller and made of lighter plastic.
Those 2 things together would get me to buy a new one. But honestly, even fixing those 2 problems, the choice of single jointed knees and elbows they went with still aren't great. Possibly the worst I can remember seeing on a DBZ Figuarts. It really is baffling to me why it almost felt like they decided to reinvent the wheel with this figure, except doing everything worse than they have in the past.

to answer a question regarding the custom faces with the sticker like effect, plastic model kits overseas come with blank face plates and a special sheet of additional eyes and mouths. you cut the desired eyes and mouths from the sheet with something like an exacto knife and let them sit in water before applying them very carefully to the desired area once soaked long enough, the end result being akin to a fusable sticker that semi bonds to the plastic part.

Matte finishes will always scrape off regardless of whichever manufacturers made it because it's paint sprayed on top of plastic parts. That's what paints do they scrape off when rubbed against. Not unless the plastic itself already has a matte/flat texture but that's rare in action figures.
Someone else mentioned it’s because the crotch piece is ill designed

I've NEVER had any figuarts matte finishes damaged through normal display and posing. Granted, I don't have a MASSIVE collection, but I have about 15 or so, most new, some used, and none of them have that issue. It also shouldn't happen within minutes of opening the package.

I think the red is a fanmade Super Saiyan God Kefla. The first face gives her the SSG eyes that Goku had when he turned SSG, and the second face is a more Kefla styled face.

& I like the base/black head sculpt shit looks pretty good, but the loose neck joint & that clear vinyl or whatever on the face plates is definitely disappointing, so I’m kinda glad I ended up passing on ordering these kits, cuz I was originally thinking about getting both of these kits because I somehow I accidentally ended up preordering 3 copies of Kefla, but I ended up just selling the two extras I had instead

I actually think the chest piece looks better then the defeat by a lot if the colour matched at all. But the process of actually putting it on is kinda extreme.

the decal lines would be easy to hide with a coat of varnish (maybe satin?). it's commonly done for warhammer miniatures for example. works quite well with little effort

BTW the red hair is a reference to how throughout the entire fight with Goku, Kefla just keeps overstating how powerful she is, even taunting Goku by saying "Maybe I should just go Super Saiyan God right now."
tbh with how rapidly she was advancing as they fought i wouldnt have been shocked if theyd said she could by the end, was disappointed we didnt at least get ss3 kefla though but i guess the energy drain from her first time ss3 woulda ended the fight pretty anticlimactically

Not a bad figurine I agree though the color for the secondary kit is a little off I'd rather it be paint than sticker no other complaints though do the stands hold up well always had issues with stands
The clear stands I use are Obitsu stands and they do well, but can break because they are so thin
I think that in terms of the faces, the official one is pad printed, and the kit uses water slide decals.
Pad printing is what I think is used for a lot of different figures. I know that Good Smile uses it for stuff like the Nendoroids, and even non-Japanese companies like LEGO use this technique for printing. Water slide decals on the other hand are super common for models. They're essentially stickers without the sticky residue, and you can print on top of transparency instead of a white background. I think the decals on the face could have been cut just a bit closer, but hey, it's still pretty good overall.
It's just strange to me they went this route but not with the Vegeta faces they made. Or it's just way less noticeable which is probably the case
I bet if you hit those faces with some matte top coat that would take the shine away. Or some microset, thats what I use with water slides on model kits, Im not sure the science but it like dissolves the sticker and makes it look like paint vs a sticker.

Well the red fan fic kit with the chest piece could only headcannon make sense if Kale is the dominate one in the fusion since she was the bustier one. Also she was the one with the pony tale. In the show it was clear that Caluifla was the dominate one so it was the super toned and typical spikey hair saiyan look. If anything you would think the fan fic version would be a SSJ3 imagining. But yeah they need a BUFF ARMS kit, not a busty chest kit

To avoid the Kefla scratches, you must dip it to a 4min. boiled hot water in a mug and leave it for 1-2 minutes right after you got it out of the box.
But what if it already has scratches? You can still dip it to he hot water and it makes the scratches unoticable

The whole movie isn't going to make sense if you don't know Dragon Ball, since there's a good deal of fandom-service as it was the first new canon entry in the series from 1996 to 2013. But you can probably skip to the action and have a good time. And if you like it, then maybe you'll want to go back and check it out starting from Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z, who knows?

@@SEEshadow i would recomend start with Dragonball however, keep in mind dragonball is a very older more comedic and adventure silly show, it has a lot of gags and comedy it changes right in the middle of the show to a more combat focus show, if you want to start with the more serious show is also an option since is the way that the people from USA experimented the show. So it's up to you.

My Figuarts collection is pretty small. I brought four back with me from Japan years ago. I wasn’t too impressed with the joints. I liked the posses they could get, but I was afraid I’d break them, so they into a tub they went. I did just get a Monsterarts Shin Godzilla. He’s a beefy boy and I liked how solid it feels compared the figures I have.
Your reviews are tempting me to finally buy the Sailor Scouts, though. Those are still decently priced. Power Rangers and Turtles figures for these get stupid.
I heard the Sailor ladies are not great figures, so definitely look for a review on those. Most of the latest dragon ball stuff is amazing with joints and articulation. How old are your figures?
At this point they’d be at least 14 or so years old. I do have a Sailor Moon from when Toys R Us was selling Figuarts. That was bought probably a year before they closed. She seemed fine, but I didn’t really mess with her. I put her in an iconic pose and on the shelf she went.@@NostalgiaUnboxed

Shfiguart figures are cool, i should know that since I have a bunch of them , but also, they're the most frustrating and nerve-wracking figures I've ever dealt with. When it comes to easy assembly and removal of pieces, nothing beats figma, like both companies but figma > Shfiguart, just my 2 cents

The additional "details" in the second chest plate don't really bother me as a rule (because logically speaking, they probably would be visible at times), but the chest plate in general alters the silhouette too much for my taste.
The contours made to accentuate her anatomy just feel unnatural, like she's wearing a top made of cling wrap, as opposed to the original chest piece which is more accurate to her apearance in the show where she just looks like she's wearing something form-fitting.
Don't get me wrong, I don’t have any issue with niche or fanservicy models, but if something is ostensibly trying to be accurate to the source then it should represent that.

Oh yeah, even when I saw the first shots of this set, I knew that were I to want it in the first place, the nature of colour-matching plastics on a mass-produced level was going to be a nightmare. It's a shame that they also didn't really have the sculpt work in a way where the head was actually secure. Not feeling their stuff. Also, truly a shame that Kefla has that issue with their finish, not to mention the quirks with the sculpt. I sincerely hope some company like Demoniacal Fit produces their own unique sculpt, maybe with both canon heads in the box?
I feel like Demoniacal locks into Goku and Vegeta and that's it. Do they do much else?

Its a shame the chest pieces color didnt match. I like the shape of the upgrade piece. It looks more natural. And gives the figure an overall more dynamic shape imo.
