Nice review, I loved Dawnshard, I’d totally recommend it to any Stormlight fan. Also, I just got the new Mistborn board game this week, it’s a ton of fun if you guys enjoy board games. The cards also have a ton of cool references to Era 1, I spent a good hour just looking at all of them when I first opened the game lol

There is investiture in breaths. Having X amount of breaths = Y amount investiture. Reaching various heightenings is related to the investiture overall not the breaths themselves. Like you can get into any functioning car (magic system) and go at speed. Some cars may have different features but they all are intended to create and utilize kinetic energy. Kaladin has described heightening effects from stormlight for example. Also book "size" is determined by word count if you want a better metric than the size of the tome
I knew IMMEDIATELY that I had missed something as soon as I started Rhythm of War and it was revealed that Cord had set of Shardplate. To me, that was a really big gap in the story - and I feel like (if you want the full Stormlight Archive experience), you NEED to read this before starting RoW.
From what I gathered from sun lite man all investiture is meshed in comparison to breaths. So when she got the dawn shard she probably jumped several heightenings. At the end of rhythm of war when odium took memory’s from wits metal mine he lost a full heightening.
Jaden, the way Brandon works is that he writes a draft, it gets sent to beta readers, which includes people with a specific expertise or experience or sensitivity readers. They tell him what he got wrong and Brandon adjusts accordingly.
Edgedancer is better than Dawnshard in terms of storytelling. But Dawnshard’s depth of lore is fascinating. It’s a shame he spent most of Rhythm of War focusing on the different types of Light, rather than the Shards and their implications on Roshar.
