Carp fishing in winter, something many carp anglers do not want to burn their hands on. The fish bite badly, the water temperature determines the body temperature and the subsequent activity of the carp. However, there are always carp that are still active in these cold months and these active scaly friends are easy to catch. If you're well prepared with the right materials and tactics you can be very successful with carp fishing in the winter.
In this video Peter from our store in Lelystad goes out during the winter period to fish for carp. In this video Peter explains how he works to hook a carp in this cold period. There are a number of factors you can take into account.
The diet of the carp in the winter is obviously different than in the warm months. Because the water temperature is lower and the fish less active inherently affects the eating pattern of the carp. The fish eats less and the bait period is much shorter. The carp is also slower in the winter and that affects the metabolism.
Because the carp is less active in the winter you have to actively search for the fish. So we recommend fishing during the day when the sun is shining. Good to remember is that the carp likes to hide near reeds, fallen trees or a bridge.
Also fish at different depths. This way you can see at what depth the carp is. If you catch nothing after two hours, move to another spot.
