Prayer and litany for the Souls in Purgatory

The Church prays for the Holy Souls in Purgatory essentially for her own sanctification. We apply the merits of Christ and His saints to the Holy Souls through our prayers and suffrages, our sufferings and mortifications offered in union with Christ's self-sacrifice on the Cross. Through his love, God has allowed those of us still on Earth to aid, by our prayers, the purification of the Holy Souls. Just as we can pray for our loved ones who are living, and our prayers, personal penance, and sacrifices can be channels of Grace for them, the same is true for our departed loved ones in Purgatory. #purgatory #souls in purgatory #pray for souls
