I honestly believe the day Eddie died it started Benoit's downward spiral. You could see and even so much as feel it in his tribute to him. Had Eddie not died I believe Benoit and his family would still be here. He would also undoubtedly be in the WWE Hall of Fame by now.
Well its likely he would have spiraled like this but its obvious he would have broke sooner then later as his brain was so destroyed at that point that his dementia like symptoms would have had him lash out on someone and likely hurting if not killing them all the same. And honestly as horrible as his crimes where could you imagine what would have happened if chris had lost it in a match choked someone to death in the ring them harmed multiple people before being subdued. That was a very real possibility. To be honest if the wwe had proper medical care for its wrestlers back then nancy daniel would still be alive and even though it would be likely chris would have succumbed to his brain injures by now this whole horrible situation would never have happened.
As a longtime wrestling fan, this was truly one of the saddest days in wrestling. Benoit was Magic in the ring but I can never forgive him for what happened. And when Eddie passed away so did Benoit in my opinion.

It's the most tragic, creepy and sad story in wrestling and it's totally unforgivable even if he was one of the greats. I do still think the WWE is partly responsible for what happened though. That's why they have decided to erase him from the archives, they know their tests, superstar welfare and support were poor which led to his and his family's demise. I quit watching WWE soon after this happened. It was too much for me
He was sick with CTE. His brain was no longer functioning due to the flooding of toxic proteins brought on by repeated blows to the head & concussions. Dr. Bennet Omalu and Chris Nowinsky published books and articles on it. Benoit was no different than a paranoid schizophrenic off his meds, it's a shame it took another 5 years for concussion awareness to kick in after he died.
I would say that they are partly responsible, mainly because of the schedule that they have which is crazy. Especially when the performers are putting their bodies on the line every night. Treating your body like that for over 300 days a year isn’t going to be beneficial to anyone’s health. Injuries aren’t able to heal properly.
Shiiiit they are responsible for so many of these great wrestlers horrible living situations during and especially after their stunts at WWE because they are considered “contractors” so they don’t have to provide health insurance or reoteiement
I remember Mick Foley mentioning in one of his books (I’m paraphrasing) that one of the things that contributed to what happened with Benoit was that he never really gave his body a chance to relax, he was always going 115-120 mph in every match. DDP also had mentioned that Benoit treated every match like it was a main event. There’s no excuse for actions, but never giving his body a chance to relax played a role with what happened.
Benoit didn't have the body to be a pro wrestler, so he started massively abusing steroids to get bigger when he was quite young. Then he felt that he had to do crazy thing to stand out and have a career. His whole life was spent abusing himself to commit himself to an industry he didn't belong in.
You did a great job with this one. This is probably the 5 different documentary I've watched on this story and you kept me interested throughout, keep it up!

@Aaron Ethan TNA was something new and I think that’s why alot of people switched because WWE was getting boring, I started watching TNA in 2008 up until 2012. I recently tuned in to both shows to see what’s up and they were so boring no atmosphere and the crowd was totally dead
Cte, drugs, perpetual grief from friends, he was a ticking time bomb who not only changed wrestling, but sports and head injuries in general. I think it's time we stop looking at him as an evil dude because I truly believe he wasn't, but start looking at him as a cautionary tale. His legacy shouldn't be erased imo and I don't think they should go out of their way to disregard him. He's a cautionary tale of the business. Which is awful because I'd argue there was never anyone better
I feel the same way I think when Eddie died it sealed his fate. He held a lot in Plus the head trauma I will always want to see his matches And watch Nancy as Women in WCW and she was the valet for Kerry Von Erich’s last televised match against Black Bart
The thing that bugged me when this broke. Was that a lot of big news stations spoke to many fans out there like they new Benoit personally. Yeah I get it, they’re fans and they’ll fill time. But really asking them personal questions was just a no no from me.
Yeah, I don't believe even if he had CTE that it was a MAJOR part in the event. Plenty of other wrestlers have had CTE but this never happened to them. I think the media used CTE and Steroids as a huge way to close the case. Not saying Chris didn't do anything wrong. Hell, Nancy was an alcoholic and abusive towards Chris and Chris was probably dealing pain pills. They found so many pills and drugs in that house it's wild. Not to mention the doctor who was heavily overprescribing both of them too. Daniel likely overdosed on something they gave him to keep calm or quiet. They fought about it and you know the rest. Assuming a 3rd party wasn't involved if you believe that. I just don't buy the official story. Like I said, even if Chris did something that day I don't believe it's as simple as a steroid driven rage throughout three days where he killed Nancy one day, Daniel the next, and then himself the third. At the very least, I will confirm most likely he killed himself. Everything else, I'm not confident on the official story driven by APD and the media. Lazy police work. Minimal DNA or fingerprints if any at all were done in the end. Toxicology shows NANCY as the one with alcohol and drugs. She's likely at least the very one who had the idea of giving Daniel Xanax to calm him down or keep him quiet. It's easy to say the man killed because men are generally more dominant stronger physically appearing individuals. So, it was easy for APD and the media to create that narrative. Do I buy that a 3rd party murdered them? Not necessarily. Do I think Chris still could've done this. Yes. Do I buy that the facts show that he did this 100%? No. But, even if he did they literally did the bare minimum to conclude or prove he did this entirely. RIP Daniel. 🕊
He’ll never be forgotten for what he did and yet will never be remembered for all the hard work he accomplished and strived for. RIP one of my favorite Wrestlers..
@@smarty1268 Yea if you’ve seen him talking about Eddies death he breaks down it affected him really bad.. in that segment he says something like “If i was feeling down Eddie was always there and he’d talk me out of it” and I think that speaks volumes if Eddie didn’t die then Chris wouldn’t have done what he did.
So many untreated head injuries that surely changed his personality, seemingly undealt with grief over the loss of his friend and likely untreated mental illness all combined to take the life of 2 innocent people. It also took the life of Chris who may never have done what he did if not for this perfect storm . It’s truly scary and a complete tragedy. People please if you need help or even think you do get it . Don’t ignore your problems until it’s too late

eddie's death destroyed chris. when eddie died, chris died. not physically, but emotionally. he started to shut down. add brain damage on top of that, and its a recipe for disaster. its unfortunate that chris will most likely never be put into the wwe hall of fame but i can understand why the wwe refuses to associate with his name. the crime was awful. its an all around sad story. his heart never healed from losing his best friend. and that is tragic
There's one big key factor to this that really gets overlooked. Even so by Benoit's former peers that have said that they didn't know anything more about the situation once hearing that he'd committed the murders. However, what followed that was his family requesting an autopsy on him and an examination on his brain and damage that it had taken over the years. Upon doing that the reports from the autopsy showed that Benoit's brain resembled that of a long term sufferer of dementia or Alzheimer's. The fact that he not only killed his wife and young child by strangulation and suffocation (meaning he had to feel them die from his own hands), but also was in the home with their dead bodies for days, and killed himself in a relatively slow way as well by strangulation. It can't be separated that he committed absolutely unforgivable and abhorrent actions during those days but it shouldn't be understated or written off that he had the same damages shown as those who suffer with late stage dementia which is known to cause delusions, complete unawareness of there surroundings, or why they're there or who they're with or even being able to recognize close family or even knowing what decade they're in. I'm really glad this video covered that big portion of information

@@billanddougsuck exactly, also Vince had a point. It was not roid rage, this was in a span of 3 days. Plus if you watch dark side of the ring. They said that there was strong evidence of him contemplating whether to actually show up to the event😟. That’s insane. If anything I believe he was actually going through some issues for a long time, hence Eddie guerrero knew exactly what It was and helped him and encourage him to seek god and jesus and that helped him a lot. When he passed away, he was left alone. And no one understand him. The demons consumed him and he snapped.
Here is my take on the entire situation, and please reply because I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on what I am about to say. Chris Benoit obviously took a lot of shots to the head, his signature move was the diving headbutt, he was a heavy steroid abuser and I’m certain over the years all of that took a toll on his health. When Eddie Guerrero died, because of all of those mental and physical problems the death effected him almost too much, as said in Dark Side of the Ring, he treated it as if it was his spouse that died, and I think that was what seriously changed his mental stability. Chris became a lot more spiritual because of Eddie before he passed away, he gifted him a bible, he changed Chris’s perspective on life in a way. What I believe is, over time while grieving he began to miss Eddie so much that he didn’t want to live on this earth anymore unless he was here with him. It’s obvious that Chris loved Nancy and his kids a lot, and I believe what was going through his head was if he took his own life and brought his wife and youngest kid with him, they would be reunited with Eddie in heaven. As sick as it is to think about I strongly believe that Chris had a mentality much like that and ultimately is the reason he didn’t only commit suicide but also murdered his wife and child before doing so. I imagine there are going to be a lot of people who disagree with me because this of course is just an opinion on why Benoit would do such a horrible thing to people he clearly loved dearly. But please do reply and tell me your thoughts on my theory. Thank you.
I agree… I too believe he didn’t want to live without his family. His damaged brain allowed him to conclude that this was a way he could “take them with him.” I don’t think this was done in anger. But rather a sick & damaged brains conclusion that he could take them with him. He loved them so much, he couldn’t leave them behind. Sad and tragic for all involved. 💔
Im not gonna say i like this take on it cus it seems like a weird thing to like, i do think Chris had lost his mind by the end, by grief, not just by eddie but apparently he was verybclosed to Johnny Grunge from Public Enemy too. So when ya need a talk or youre having marital issues you need people to vent to to keep your head on, but yeah also the steroids, the damaged state of his brain, and the state of his relationship to the point where after he had killed Daniel (imo, after killing nancy his sons death was probably seen as a mercy killing) the religious longing side kicked in, hence the bibles and researching scripture about resurrecting his son. Nancy - crime of passion due to an argument, alcohol or both, Daniel - crime of mercy and grief, Chris - suicide due to shame, regret, he didn’t hand himself to the police, he didn’t give daniel a chance to maybe go to a loving family, he had a full day and his choice was to kill the poor boy, the spooky bit was always how he carried on talking with Chavo and Scott armstrong as if everything okay and that part has always hurt me somewhere deep inside because it’s almost psychopathic to murder your family and be so numb and removed from it that you carry on the appearance as if everything is fine. Thats the real blemish on his legacy when i think about the murders, not just the killing but the lack of responsibility after it but he had a sick brain so who knows. If i had to take a guess and i dont know and no one does i’d say Chris and Nancy had had an argument (probably about Chris retiring) from Dark side of the ring and other sources it seems like that that had been an argument that came up a lot and with Chris about to win the ECW championship that wasn’t exactly gonna give him less appearance dates, so ive always thought Nancy was unhappy with Chris’ career trajectory and thought maybe it was time for him to come home but Chris not being able to give up the only job he had ever had and his passion snapped in a rage of booze and anger, it got vocal, it got violent, it got deadly, i will get shit for speculating on their relationship when i didn’t know them but ask yourself what else would make Benoit snap to that point, when Kevin Sullivan beat Nancy multiple times, he did not murder him. Poor Nancy, Poor Daniel, Poor Wrestling Business because he would have been a great trainer or agent, Poor world. I cant imagine killing my spouse, murdering my child the next day knowing what i had done the day before then sitting around my house with their bodies for another day talking to people as if they were just ill but everything was fine. The CTE played into it, you can’t look at his brain and think he wouldn’t have irratic and abnormal brain process but despite the similies used to describe it, he wasn’t just an old man with dementia inside a middle-aged man’s body thats just to describe the state of decay of his brain. He was damaged in every way and Hurt people … hurt people. Take care of yourselves people, cause life is too beautiful to spend in prison being reminded of why your there until your eyes close for the last time. Anyone think i’m right? Anyone? “Retire Chris, or i’m leaving and taking Daniel.” “I’ll kill you before I let that happen Nancy.”, some scenario like that. FYI Benoit was my favourite wrestler, when he died i was in shock i remember where i was and how i found out and i didn’t believe it and lived in denial for years but what was done was done and whatever our reasons the same 3 people are dead and that will always be the tragedy. Those actions hurt the wrestling business making it look like they were a bunch of steroided up psychos waiting for one bad day too many, i’m glad the attention was brought onto CTE though, at least some good cane from that side of it
That does make a twisted sort of sense. Chris himself wasn't a bad person, what he ultimately did tarnishes his overall legacy as a person and as a wrestler, but certain things do play a factor in our lives in one way shape or form. one change can have a domino effect that can cause positive changes or have catastrophic changes that lead to our downfall. What happened to Eddie was terrible, what happened to Chris and his family is equally terrible. What went through Chris' mind when he did what he did probably made sense to him, especially in the lead up to his suicide. many people on the outside looking in would regard suicide as a selfish act, and perhaps it is, but for people undergoing mental and emotional turmoil on a near constant basis and have no way to deal with that pain, suicide seems like a viable option as a means to end that pain. in the end, what happened was tragic. I don't condone what Benoit did, but I'm not going to condemn him either because he needed help and he didn't get it in time to prevent what happened.
Kurt angle said in an interview that the diving headbutt is not as damaging as it is made out to be. Chris Benoit had a dark side to him which he kept hidden. He became uncontrollable once he got angry or little irritated. Steroids must have played role in brain damage. He clearly abused his body without caring for consequences. He would have snapped sooner or later and Eddie's death may be a contributing factor to his mental instability but not the reason. I think he had an verbal altercation with his wife and snapped killing her on spot then perhaps he realised what he has done and full with remorse he couldn't think of a future ahead and decided to kill his son and then himself. The murder suicide happened over 3 days or so and he did have conversation with WWE and chavo so the man was well aware of the situation but did not knew how to get out of it. He knew he will be a social outcaste and a prisoner rest of his life so he took a conscious decision to end it all. He had been violent with his wife previously but that day things went too far. Wrestlers have said how Benoit was a quite guy but sometimes acted as a bully. So clearly he had mental issues may be steroids and concussion.
People underestimate the absolute power of the brain. If your brain tells you to do something, you do it. If your brain says "get up and walk," it's not your legs in control, it's your brain. CTE is dangerous and can make anyone capable of anything. People just think it couldn't happen to them (when it easily could with a certain degree of degradation of the brain) because their brains aren't that bad off.
@@3Brandon11 When it comes to this case in particular, as like any horrendous event/crime I think people just find it hard to fathom this could happen. For the reasons you've already explained or for many other mental abnormalities.
This is super tragic. I used to watch WWE with my younger brother growing up, and we’d watch Chris Benoit Wrestle. He was actually my brothers favorite wrestler at the time, and then I heard about this such a tragedy. His family deserved better.
Here's my two cents. I think it was a combination of a lot of factors. He was using steroids, he had CTE, he lost Eddie, a family member passed away shortly afterwards, he was having marital problems, a lot was going on. Eddie's passing was undoubtedly a blow and I think that was about the time he found religion. Now I can't tell you one way or another why Nancy's death was so violent. They may have gotten into an argument, I don't know. But I've always thought that after he killed Nancy he struggled with what to do next. In my opinion I think he said to himself okay I screwed up but I can fix this because if I killed Daniel and myself then we'll all go to heaven and be a family again.
Maybe I'm one of the very rare few. When I think of Benoit, my mind still immediately goes back to his early days of being such a terrific and awe inspiring technician in the ring, giving one great performance after another. His days in the WWE and the subsequent double murder suicide, at least in my mind, all came after this fact had been established and solidified my psyche.
They cannot ever put Benoit in the HoF. His crimes are too heinous in nature. Familicide is one of the rarest crimes committed, and I can’t think of much worse a human could do. I’m happy to have Benoit edited out of any/all programming, and I’m someone who was a huge fan of his, before his heinous acts. I’m also a proud father, who cannot fathom what he did to his family.
If you are a wrestling fan how could you not be a fan of Chris benoit's work. Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero we're best friends and when Eddie passed away that was the downward spiral Chris Benoit. And pretty much the end. And which led to him committing suicide. But why kill his wife and son? Don't understand.
I don't think anybody questions his skills. What he did his last weekend alive will forever be his legacy though. For those who accept he did it, but still think his exploits in ring should be celebrated, honored, and mentioned, I only ask how you would feel if it was your family he killed.
That was well put together man. Chavo has unbelievable mental strength too to get through losing Eddie and Chris. Its tough to look back on his matches and not completely block his inexcusable actions but I have always loved the intensity he brought to the sport of pro wrestling. Its my first time seeing the photos at 25:55 I always pictured the house being a wreck or something but good on you for slotting those in. At least that clears hat up in relation to the "chaotic scene" theory that has going around for years. 57:09 I still blast his theme in the gym doing the training I learnt from my wrestling classes. Stetches, Burpees, Squats, Jumping jacks all that stuff. it is a good release for me in this world where you need to keep trucking on. What a song that was too. 53:56 Its very hard losing someone so close. I lost my dad to suicide on my birthday and I have seen his struggle prior to his passing. It does still overwhelm me and I don't know at times how I am coping. I am having one of these moments now as I am listening to this part it is getting to me. I got some headaches from my short time training for 3 months here in Ireland. That aint no ones fault of course. Thats on me. I knew myself that if I was getting headaches then then what's going to happen in the future with my head you know. Those bumps are impactful for sure. Props to all that are in the business and taking measures to protect themselves and pushing on.
I had a poster by my bed of my favorite wrestler which happened to be Benoit. It took me a few months to take it down as my 14yr old brain processed the gravity of what had happened. It weird kinda of trauma for sure.
I feel like no one really checked up on him and the fact that his best friend passed put him in depression like really bad and I feel like he should have retired sometime after Eddie passed

Man i remember being at my grandma house jumping on the couch as a kid then the news came on and seeing what happened really killed my childhood I use to watch Chris all the time even use to mimic him when he jumped off the top rope for his finishing move wwe hasn’t been the same since then I’ll never forget that day ……….
I believe having initially told Chavo he would be taking a later flight he began to realise his actions and killed himself. He was going to go over and beat CM Punk for the title but the gruesome scenes at his home would have been later discovered and perhaps he didn't want the public backlash. It remains so sad to this day.
That's the one thing I learned from Dark Side of the Ring, that there was evidence that he actually planned to travel to the show. Like what was gonna do, try to make it look like it was a home Invasion or something
@@billblaski9523 yeah he'd probably have pretended he had no idea but then the backlash and eventual suicide plagued his mind. God only knows how dark his thoughts were in those final few days.
Such a sad story. What makes this even more tragic is the fact that it was probably a result of CTE. Everyone who knew Chris always says that he absolutely adored his family and never would have done anything to hurt them. But his brain had deteriorated so much by that point that a situation like this was possible. All the concussions he had from performing thousands of flying headbutts had literally rotted away most of his brain. He wasnt able to think clearly. The Chris they all knew and loved just wasnt there anymore.
I have a very hot take about this. I think Nancy’s death is definitely CTE related. However, the cool down period between Nancy and Daniel has made it very hard for me, personally, to believe that it was directly CTE related. But we will never know because the only people who know the whole story you are gone
Take this for what it’s worth. His brain was so messed up that (iirc, forget which one, I’ll edit) his behavioral/emotional part of his brain was just absolutely destroyed. Destroyed to the point that trying the man in court would deem him as unfit. Totally not defending his actions, but I couldn’t imagine wtf was going on in that mans head.

You never know what anyone is dealing with or going through. It is not for us to judge anyone. Just to never forget all the good times and things of those involved.
I will never forget the morning I found out from my mom. I remember exactly what I was doing and everything. I was playing resident evil 4 on ps2.. I was 14 years old and had pulled an all nighter and she was about to leave for work. She came into the living room shocked saying the news just said that someone murdered a wrestler named Chris and his family. Guess they were wrong but it just blew my mind imagining someone as tough as chris could have that done to him and his family.. so so sad. Such a tragedy he lost his mind as bad as he did.
Before this documentary even aired I remember when it made headlines and everybody in WWF was so shocked they did a tribute but took it down immediately when they put the pieces together and what really happened with Chris benoit. A sharp knife of a short life indeed.

not really weird per say..... he was just dropping hint that when someone comes over to investigate, " the dogs are locked up in the back enclosure " meaning its safe to enter the front yard without fear of dogs, " that the door in unlocked " meaning no need to break in, the door is unlocked, you have easy ccess.

Some of you have never had a personality altering head injury, and it shows. Some days, all I have is pictures, broken memories and others' stories to remember who I used to be. Anger comes in flashes of red(sometimes minutes, sometimes hours or days go by) and after the dust settles, I'm left in tears because of the chaos and hurt I've caused. I obviously don't condone his actions, but I unfortunately understand them. 😔 CTE and D.I.D. are no joke. Get help as soon as you can. 3 people would be here today if Chris Benoit had.😔

I have two questions; first, while i understand Chris being banned from the WWE Hall of Fame why is WWE banning Nancy's induction? She was a victim not a perpetrator. Second, why not remove Sunny and Jimmy Snuka from the Hall of Fame if murderers are banned?

Some people treat the outsiders better than their family members to gain friendships or whatever rewards they want. Plus, family members are the ones who spend with a person 24/7 or at least more time than the outsiders.

There’s a 50/50 possibility he committed these heinous acts and then there’s a chance, all three of them were murdered by another unknown entity, but staged too appear As a murder suicide.

You wanna know the answer of why this happened? Here it is... Depression from loss, marital issues, substance abuse, and brain damage from years of head trauma all came together and the total sum of all the parts resulted in this horrible tragedy.
for me Chris was not great on the mic, but he was one of my favorites when it came to Wrestling, he always had awesome matches, started watching him in WCW where he wasnt appreciated by that company.

People say Chris snapped because of Eddie dying, depression and his CTE issues. Which is true... But Johnny Grunge who was also a best friend of Chris died not long before the murders. Besides Eddie ..Chris would confide in Johnny when he was feeling down. Losing 2 best friends around the same time is very tragic. Chris was doomed.
No mention of the other friend of Benoit who had also passed away? Chris was dealing with a lot of professional loss that was deeply personal in a small time frame.

Regardless if the dogs were truly by the pool, that message is eerily similar to my worst concussion. Though I don't remember much of anything other than how it happened. My mother years later told me, "Your speech was slurred, and you were saying things that didn't make sense." Protect your heads guys. Even talking about the dangers of head trauma doesn't do the actual ordeal any justice. One of the eeriest injuries a human can face is a concussion. I've had a few over the years. Two severe ones, one of which opened my head up really bad. I have the memory of like a 40 year old man, and I'm only 22. Be safe guys.

After Eddie's passing, Chris should've just decided to retire. He wasn't doing so well and Chavo and DDP could've been there to help him get through it all. Would've been a better outcome than what happened.
A Correction may needs to be addressed : From what I understand the police were not the first ones to enter the home-the next door neighbor was the 1st person to breach the home to tend to the dogs , which from a crime scene preservation standpoint and police investigation standpoint is not off to a good start. Not sure how long the neighbor was left unassisted at the scene but an important detail regarding this case in my opinion
No one will ever know what really happened. This tragedy will always make my heart ache. Removing him from existence is not the way to deal with this horrific crime. I went to high school with him , and knew him before he was famous. I still can't believe that this is true it makes no sense. My blessings and prayers are with all of them and all their families. A lot. Sociopaths, psychopaths and serial killers alike are usually affable, polite and highly intelligent. Many studies prove that most killers throughout history possess intelligence above average and often lack empathy. Personality wise, they're often described by family, friends, acquaintances and partners alike as kind and polite. That's why they don't see it coming and find themselves dumbfounded when they do fucked up shit. But all of that is oftentimes a facade to hide their covert brutality and insanity.
I remember the day I found out he died. I was in high school at the time. And I mean the initial breaking news, not the truth the next day. I overheard kids who were fans talking about it and I asked them to repeat that again cause I was floored. He was my top 5 favourites of all time. The walk home that day was something else
We’ll never know 100% what went down in the Benoit household in those final days of Chris’s life if he did kill his wife and son well he’s a pos for that, but as an in ring competitor the rabid wolverine was one of the best and will always be one of my favourite wrestlers of all time never a boring match and i agree his entrance music was the best. The neighbour actually entered the house first on the welfare check because she had to secure the dogs in the garage and she took it upon herself to enter the house which was unbelievable. The fact that the police allowed that to happen. She could have encountered anything. An intruder, an out of control Benoit, etc. That was really terrible work by the officers.

I can't accept that the death of Eddie contributed so greatly to Chris' mindset. Tragic? Yes. Life-changing? Sure. However it's not normal for anyone to be so deeply affected by the death of a friend that it altered his thinking and sense of rationale. I've been fortunate to have three friends for over 50 years and their love and friendship mean as much to me as my family yet I know that although I'd be devastated at their passing (God forbid) it would not have the extreme psychological impact attributed to Chris Benoit. Steroids? Concussions? Mental illness? One or more of these are the more likely causes of this atrocity.
I am fascinated by this. I was a WWF fan when I was a young lad in the attitude era, and I remember this guy was on my list of wrestlers I paid attention to. As a 30 year old man now I am intrigued by what caused it. What the trigger was. Was it a slow build up? Did he snap and kill his family in the heat of the moment or was it a planned thing due to his brain condition causing psychosis ect. What was his justification to himself before, during and after? Did he think he would see them again in the afterlife? Was he protecting them from some imagined threat(how religious people say their relatives are possessed ect)? Who knows. Tragic none the less.

Well its likely he would have spiraled like this but its obvious he would have broke sooner then later as his brain was so destroyed at that point that his dementia like symptoms would have had him lash out on someone and likely hurting if not killing them all the same. And honestly as horrible as his crimes where could you imagine what would have happened if chris had lost it in a match choked someone to death in the ring them harmed multiple people before being subdued. That was a very real possibility. To be honest if the wwe had proper medical care for its wrestlers back then nancy daniel would still be alive and even though it would be likely chris would have succumbed to his brain injures by now this whole horrible situation would never have happened.

As a longtime wrestling fan, this was truly one of the saddest days in wrestling. Benoit was Magic in the ring but I can never forgive him for what happened. And when Eddie passed away so did Benoit in my opinion.

It's the most tragic, creepy and sad story in wrestling and it's totally unforgivable even if he was one of the greats. I do still think the WWE is partly responsible for what happened though. That's why they have decided to erase him from the archives, they know their tests, superstar welfare and support were poor which led to his and his family's demise. I quit watching WWE soon after this happened. It was too much for me
He was sick with CTE. His brain was no longer functioning due to the flooding of toxic proteins brought on by repeated blows to the head & concussions. Dr. Bennet Omalu and Chris Nowinsky published books and articles on it. Benoit was no different than a paranoid schizophrenic off his meds, it's a shame it took another 5 years for concussion awareness to kick in after he died.

I would say that they are partly responsible, mainly because of the schedule that they have which is crazy. Especially when the performers are putting their bodies on the line every night. Treating your body like that for over 300 days a year isn’t going to be beneficial to anyone’s health. Injuries aren’t able to heal properly.

I remember Mick Foley mentioning in one of his books (I’m paraphrasing) that one of the things that contributed to what happened with Benoit was that he never really gave his body a chance to relax, he was always going 115-120 mph in every match. DDP also had mentioned that Benoit treated every match like it was a main event. There’s no excuse for actions, but never giving his body a chance to relax played a role with what happened.
Benoit didn't have the body to be a pro wrestler, so he started massively abusing steroids to get bigger when he was quite young. Then he felt that he had to do crazy thing to stand out and have a career. His whole life was spent abusing himself to commit himself to an industry he didn't belong in.

Yeah, I don't believe even if he had CTE that it was a MAJOR part in the event. Plenty of other wrestlers have had CTE but this never happened to them. I think the media used CTE and Steroids as a huge way to close the case. Not saying Chris didn't do anything wrong. Hell, Nancy was an alcoholic and abusive towards Chris and Chris was probably dealing pain pills. They found so many pills and drugs in that house it's wild. Not to mention the doctor who was heavily overprescribing both of them too. Daniel likely overdosed on something they gave him to keep calm or quiet. They fought about it and you know the rest. Assuming a 3rd party wasn't involved if you believe that. I just don't buy the official story. Like I said, even if Chris did something that day I don't believe it's as simple as a steroid driven rage throughout three days where he killed Nancy one day, Daniel the next, and then himself the third. At the very least, I will confirm most likely he killed himself. Everything else, I'm not confident on the official story driven by APD and the media. Lazy police work. Minimal DNA or fingerprints if any at all were done in the end. Toxicology shows NANCY as the one with alcohol and drugs. She's likely at least the very one who had the idea of giving Daniel Xanax to calm him down or keep him quiet. It's easy to say the man killed because men are generally more dominant stronger physically appearing individuals. So, it was easy for APD and the media to create that narrative. Do I buy that a 3rd party murdered them? Not necessarily. Do I think Chris still could've done this. Yes. Do I buy that the facts show that he did this 100%? No. But, even if he did they literally did the bare minimum to conclude or prove he did this entirely. RIP Daniel. 🕊

There's one big key factor to this that really gets overlooked. Even so by Benoit's former peers that have said that they didn't know anything more about the situation once hearing that he'd committed the murders. However, what followed that was his family requesting an autopsy on him and an examination on his brain and damage that it had taken over the years. Upon doing that the reports from the autopsy showed that Benoit's brain resembled that of a long term sufferer of dementia or Alzheimer's. The fact that he not only killed his wife and young child by strangulation and suffocation (meaning he had to feel them die from his own hands), but also was in the home with their dead bodies for days, and killed himself in a relatively slow way as well by strangulation. It can't be separated that he committed absolutely unforgivable and abhorrent actions during those days but it shouldn't be understated or written off that he had the same damages shown as those who suffer with late stage dementia which is known to cause delusions, complete unawareness of there surroundings, or why they're there or who they're with or even being able to recognize close family or even knowing what decade they're in. I'm really glad this video covered that big portion of information

Here is my take on the entire situation, and please reply because I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on what I am about to say.
Chris Benoit obviously took a lot of shots to the head, his signature move was the diving headbutt, he was a heavy steroid abuser and I’m certain over the years all of that took a toll on his health. When Eddie Guerrero died, because of all of those mental and physical problems the death effected him almost too much, as said in Dark Side of the Ring, he treated it as if it was his spouse that died, and I think that was what seriously changed his mental stability. Chris became a lot more spiritual because of Eddie before he passed away, he gifted him a bible, he changed Chris’s perspective on life in a way. What I believe is, over time while grieving he began to miss Eddie so much that he didn’t want to live on this earth anymore unless he was here with him. It’s obvious that Chris loved Nancy and his kids a lot, and I believe what was going through his head was if he took his own life and brought his wife and youngest kid with him, they would be reunited with Eddie in heaven. As sick as it is to think about I strongly believe that Chris had a mentality much like that and ultimately is the reason he didn’t only commit suicide but also murdered his wife and child before doing so.

I agree… I too believe he didn’t want to live without his family. His damaged brain allowed him to conclude that this was a way he could “take them with him.” I don’t think this was done in anger. But rather a sick & damaged brains conclusion that he could take them with him. He loved them so much, he couldn’t leave them behind. Sad and tragic for all involved. 💔
Im not gonna say i like this take on it cus it seems like a weird thing to like, i do think Chris had lost his mind by the end, by grief, not just by eddie but apparently he was verybclosed to Johnny Grunge from Public Enemy too. So when ya need a talk or youre having marital issues you need people to vent to to keep your head on, but yeah also the steroids, the damaged state of his brain, and the state of his relationship to the point where after he had killed Daniel (imo, after killing nancy his sons death was probably seen as a mercy killing) the religious longing side kicked in, hence the bibles and researching scripture about resurrecting his son. Nancy - crime of passion due to an argument, alcohol or both, Daniel - crime of mercy and grief, Chris - suicide due to shame, regret, he didn’t hand himself to the police, he didn’t give daniel a chance to maybe go to a loving family, he had a full day and his choice was to kill the poor boy, the spooky bit was always how he carried on talking with Chavo and Scott armstrong as if everything okay and that part has always hurt me somewhere deep inside because it’s almost psychopathic to murder your family and be so numb and removed from it that you carry on the appearance as if everything is fine. Thats the real blemish on his legacy when i think about the murders, not just the killing but the lack of responsibility after it but he had a sick brain so who knows. If i had to take a guess and i dont know and no one does i’d say Chris and Nancy had had an argument (probably about Chris retiring) from Dark side of the ring and other sources it seems like that that had been an argument that came up a lot and with Chris about to win the ECW championship that wasn’t exactly gonna give him less appearance dates, so ive always thought Nancy was unhappy with Chris’ career trajectory and thought maybe it was time for him to come home but Chris not being able to give up the only job he had ever had and his passion snapped in a rage of booze and anger, it got vocal, it got violent, it got deadly, i will get shit for speculating on their relationship when i didn’t know them but ask yourself what else would make Benoit snap to that point, when Kevin Sullivan beat Nancy multiple times, he did not murder him. Poor Nancy, Poor Daniel, Poor Wrestling Business because he would have been a great trainer or agent, Poor world. I cant imagine killing my spouse, murdering my child the next day knowing what i had done the day before then sitting around my house with their bodies for another day talking to people as if they were just ill but everything was fine. The CTE played into it, you can’t look at his brain and think he wouldn’t have irratic and abnormal brain process but despite the similies used to describe it, he wasn’t just an old man with dementia inside a middle-aged man’s body thats just to describe the state of decay of his brain. He was damaged in every way and Hurt people … hurt people. Take care of yourselves people, cause life is too beautiful to spend in prison being reminded of why your there until your eyes close for the last time. Anyone think i’m right? Anyone? “Retire Chris, or i’m leaving and taking Daniel.” “I’ll kill you before I let that happen Nancy.”, some scenario like that. FYI Benoit was my favourite wrestler, when he died i was in shock i remember where i was and how i found out and i didn’t believe it and lived in denial for years but what was done was done and whatever our reasons the same 3 people are dead and that will always be the tragedy. Those actions hurt the wrestling business making it look like they were a bunch of steroided up psychos waiting for one bad day too many, i’m glad the attention was brought onto CTE though, at least some good cane from that side of it
That does make a twisted sort of sense. Chris himself wasn't a bad person, what he ultimately did tarnishes his overall legacy as a person and as a wrestler, but certain things do play a factor in our lives in one way shape or form. one change can have a domino effect that can cause positive changes or have catastrophic changes that lead to our downfall. What happened to Eddie was terrible, what happened to Chris and his family is equally terrible. What went through Chris' mind when he did what he did probably made sense to him, especially in the lead up to his suicide. many people on the outside looking in would regard suicide as a selfish act, and perhaps it is, but for people undergoing mental and emotional turmoil on a near constant basis and have no way to deal with that pain, suicide seems like a viable option as a means to end that pain. in the end, what happened was tragic. I don't condone what Benoit did, but I'm not going to condemn him either because he needed help and he didn't get it in time to prevent what happened.
Kurt angle said in an interview that the diving headbutt is not as damaging as it is made out to be. Chris Benoit had a dark side to him which he kept hidden. He became uncontrollable once he got angry or little irritated. Steroids must have played role in brain damage. He clearly abused his body without caring for consequences. He would have snapped sooner or later and Eddie's death may be a contributing factor to his mental instability but not the reason. I think he had an verbal altercation with his wife and snapped killing her on spot then perhaps he realised what he has done and full with remorse he couldn't think of a future ahead and decided to kill his son and then himself. The murder suicide happened over 3 days or so and he did have conversation with WWE and chavo so the man was well aware of the situation but did not knew how to get out of it. He knew he will be a social outcaste and a prisoner rest of his life so he took a conscious decision to end it all. He had been violent with his wife previously but that day things went too far. Wrestlers have said how Benoit was a quite guy but sometimes acted as a bully. So clearly he had mental issues may be steroids and concussion.

People underestimate the absolute power of the brain. If your brain tells you to do something, you do it. If your brain says "get up and walk," it's not your legs in control, it's your brain. CTE is dangerous and can make anyone capable of anything. People just think it couldn't happen to them (when it easily could with a certain degree of degradation of the brain) because their brains aren't that bad off.

This is super tragic. I used to watch WWE with my younger brother growing up, and we’d watch Chris Benoit Wrestle. He was actually my brothers favorite wrestler at the time, and then I heard about this such a tragedy. His family deserved better.

Here's my two cents. I think it was a combination of a lot of factors. He was using steroids, he had CTE, he lost Eddie, a family member passed away shortly afterwards, he was having marital problems, a lot was going on. Eddie's passing was undoubtedly a blow and I think that was about the time he found religion. Now I can't tell you one way or another why Nancy's death was so violent. They may have gotten into an argument, I don't know. But I've always thought that after he killed Nancy he struggled with what to do next. In my opinion I think he said to himself okay I screwed up but I can fix this because if I killed Daniel and myself then we'll all go to heaven and be a family again.

Maybe I'm one of the very rare few. When I think of Benoit, my mind still immediately goes back to his early days of being such a terrific and awe inspiring technician in the ring, giving one great performance after another. His days in the WWE and the subsequent double murder suicide, at least in my mind, all came after this fact had been established and solidified my psyche.
They cannot ever put Benoit in the HoF. His crimes are too heinous in nature.
Familicide is one of the rarest crimes committed, and I can’t think of much worse a human could do.
I’m happy to have Benoit edited out of any/all programming, and I’m someone who was a huge fan of his, before his heinous acts.
I’m also a proud father, who cannot fathom what he did to his family.

If you are a wrestling fan how could you not be a fan of Chris benoit's work. Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero we're best friends and when Eddie passed away that was the downward spiral Chris Benoit. And pretty much the end. And which led to him committing suicide. But why kill his wife and son? Don't understand.

That was well put together man. Chavo has unbelievable mental strength too to get through losing Eddie and Chris. Its tough to look back on his matches and not completely block his inexcusable actions but I have always loved the intensity he brought to the sport of pro wrestling. Its my first time seeing the photos at 25:55 I always pictured the house being a wreck or something but good on you for slotting those in. At least that clears hat up in relation to the "chaotic scene" theory that has going around for years. 57:09 I still blast his theme in the gym doing the training I learnt from my wrestling classes. Stetches, Burpees, Squats, Jumping jacks all that stuff. it is a good release for me in this world where you need to keep trucking on. What a song that was too. 53:56 Its very hard losing someone so close. I lost my dad to suicide on my birthday and I have seen his struggle prior to his passing. It does still overwhelm me and I don't know at times how I am coping. I am having one of these moments now as I am listening to this part it is getting to me. I got some headaches from my short time training for 3 months here in Ireland. That aint no ones fault of course. Thats on me. I knew myself that if I was getting headaches then then what's going to happen in the future with my head you know. Those bumps are impactful for sure. Props to all that are in the business and taking measures to protect themselves and pushing on.

I had a poster by my bed of my favorite wrestler which happened to be Benoit. It took me a few months to take it down as my 14yr old brain processed the gravity of what had happened. It weird kinda of trauma for sure.

I believe having initially told Chavo he would be taking a later flight he began to realise his actions and killed himself. He was going to go over and beat CM Punk for the title but the gruesome scenes at his home would have been later discovered and perhaps he didn't want the public backlash. It remains so sad to this day.
That's the one thing I learned from Dark Side of the Ring, that there was evidence that he actually planned to travel to the show. Like what was gonna do, try to make it look like it was a home Invasion or something

Such a sad story. What makes this even more tragic is the fact that it was probably a result of CTE. Everyone who knew Chris always says that he absolutely adored his family and never would have done anything to hurt them. But his brain had deteriorated so much by that point that a situation like this was possible. All the concussions he had from performing thousands of flying headbutts had literally rotted away most of his brain. He wasnt able to think clearly. The Chris they all knew and loved just wasnt there anymore.
I have a very hot take about this. I think Nancy’s death is definitely CTE related. However, the cool down period between Nancy and Daniel has made it very hard for me, personally, to believe that it was directly CTE related. But we will never know because the only people who know the whole story you are gone

I will never forget the morning I found out from my mom. I remember exactly what I was doing and everything. I was playing resident evil 4 on ps2.. I was 14 years old and had pulled an all nighter and she was about to leave for work. She came into the living room shocked saying the news just said that someone murdered a wrestler named Chris and his family. Guess they were wrong but it just blew my mind imagining someone as tough as chris could have that done to him and his family.. so so sad. Such a tragedy he lost his mind as bad as he did.
Before this documentary even aired I remember when it made headlines and everybody in WWF was so shocked they did a tribute but took it down immediately when they put the pieces together and what really happened with Chris benoit. A sharp knife of a short life indeed.

Some of you have never had a personality altering head injury, and it shows.
Some days, all I have is pictures, broken memories and others' stories to remember who I used to be.
Anger comes in flashes of red(sometimes minutes, sometimes hours or days go by) and after the dust settles, I'm left in tears because of the chaos and hurt I've caused.

I remember that day 2007 my buddy looked on his phone and said Chris Benoit dead I was like man what stop playin, shit he wasn’t. crazy day Eddie just died a year ago I just stopped watching wwe after that to much death.
I have two questions; first, while i understand Chris being banned from the WWE Hall of Fame why is WWE banning Nancy's induction? She was a victim not a perpetrator. Second, why not remove Sunny and Jimmy Snuka from the Hall of Fame if murderers are banned?

Snuka could never be tried due to health conditions and Sunny was charged with manslaughter which is far different to what Benoit did.

I agree with you. Only close family members know the exact personality of a person is. Some people treat the outsiders better than their family members to gain friendships or whatever rewards they want. Plus, family members are the ones who spend with a person 24/7 or at least more time than the outsiders.

for me Chris was not great on the mic, but he was one of my favorites when it came to Wrestling, he always had awesome matches, started watching him in WCW where he wasnt appreciated by that company.

In 2003, Miss Elizabeth died, who was close to Nancy. In 2004, Big Boss Man died. In 2007, Sherri Martel died.

Regardless if the dogs were truly by the pool, that message is eerily similar to my worst concussion. Though I don't remember much of anything other than how it happened. My mother years later told me, "Your speech was slurred, and you were saying things that didn't make sense." Protect your heads guys. Even talking about the dangers of head trauma doesn't do the actual ordeal any justice. One of the eeriest injuries a human can face is a concussion. I've had a few over the years. Two severe ones, one of which opened my head up really bad. I have the memory of like a 40 year old man, and I'm only 22. Be safe guys.

After Eddie's passing, Chris should've just decided to retire. He wasn't doing so well and Chavo and DDP could've been there to help him get through it all. Would've been a better outcome than what happened.
A Correction may needs to be addressed : From what I understand the police were not the first ones to enter the home-the next door neighbor was the 1st person to breach the home to tend to the dogs , which from a crime scene preservation standpoint and police investigation standpoint is not off to a good start. Not sure how long the neighbor was left unassisted at the scene but an important detail regarding this case in my opinion

No one will ever know what really happened. This tragedy will always make my heart ache. Removing him from existence is not the way to deal with this horrific crime. A lot. Sociopaths, psychopaths and serial killers alike are usually affable, polite and highly intelligent. Many studies prove that most killers throughout history possess intelligence above average and often lack empathy. Personality wise, they're often described by family, friends, acquaintances and partners alike as kind and polite. That's why they don't see it coming and find themselves dumbfounded when they do fucked up shit. But all of that is oftentimes a facade to hide their covert brutality and insanity.
I remember the day I found out he died. I was in high school at the time. And I mean the initial breaking news, not the truth the next day. I overheard kids who were fans talking about it and I asked them to repeat that again cause I was floored. He was my top 5 favourites of all time. The walk home that day was something else
We’ll never know 100% what went down in the Benoit household in those final days of Chris’s life if he did kill his wife and son well he’s a pos for that, but as an in ring competitor the rabid wolverine was one of the best and will always be one of my favourite wrestlers of all time never a boring match and i agree his entrance music was the best. Rarely watch videos all the way through but had no problem doing that with this one, good job.

I've been studying this case for years I've written theories and explanations I've seen evidence investigations and any conspiracies and followed his career... Benoit did it and no changing this... However Benoit is still one of the greatest technical wrestlers and performers of all time.... U may hate what he did... But don't forget what he did to the business and how great he was

The neighbour actually entered the house first on the welfare check because she had to secure the dogs in the garage and she took it upon herself to enter the house which was unbelievable. The fact that the police allowed that to happen. She could have encountered anything. An intruder, an out of control Benoit, etc. That was really terrible work by the officers.
Police are not required to protect people. We want to think they wouldn't put someone's life at risk. But they are more than happy not to.

I honestly don't know what to believe. Because he really did love his son more than life itself so for him to kill him I just don't think he could do that
I can't accept that the death of Eddie contributed so greatly to Chris' mindset. Tragic? Yes. Life-changing? Sure. However it's not normal for anyone to be so deeply affected by the death of a friend that it altered his thinking and sense of rationale. I've been fortunate to have three friends for over 50 years and their love and friendship mean as much to me as my family yet I know that although I'd be devastated at their passing (God forbid) it would not have the extreme psychological impact attributed to Chris Benoit. Steroids? Concussions? Mental illness? One or more of these are the more likely causes of this atrocity.

I am fascinated by this. I was a WWF fan when I was a young lad in the attitude era, and I remember this guy was on my list of wrestlers I paid attention to. As a 30 year old man now I am intrigued by what caused it. What the trigger was. Was it a slow build up? Did he snap and kill his family in the heat of the moment or was it a planned thing due to his brain condition causing psychosis ect. What was his justification to himself before, during and after? Did he think he would see them again in the afterlife? Was he protecting them from some imagined threat(how religious people say their relatives are possessed ect)? Who knows. Tragic none the less.
