To the locals, Jewel is a shopping mall (it is actually) that happens to be connected to the airport lol. Locals especially people staying in the east often visit the airports to chillax/shop/eat regularly for the longest time. We have done that long before the Jewel was built. Especially since the MRT was built to connect the airport to the city. Changi Airport has been voted number one in the world for countless times before Jewel was built : D Terminal 5 is in construction at the moment. The Singapore government always plans 20 years ahead.
Not many people knew this but Changi Airport is considered as a government gazetted facility. Meaning it's as good as being a government area. So it's understandably that no photography is allowed at certain areas.
Welcome to Singapore guys! Just to let you guys know that we are building another terminal which is T5 and the size will be larger than all T1 to T3 combined....😅
Welcome to Singapore! I'm sure you've done your research, so I won't suggest any attractions. I'm a foodie and it's a lazy day, so let me recommend foods that most first timers seem to enjoy. Most foods on the list below can be found in restaurants and hawker centres. Would recommend the latter since it's cheaper and hawker centres are our humble addition to UNESCO. My friends from other countries seem to find these the most palatable dishes (in no particular order): Laksa, bak chor mee, kaya toast, roti prata, chilli crab (pricey!), satay, chicken rice, fried carrot cake, fried kway teow, nasi lemak, nasi biryani, roti john, orh luak, bak kut teh, rendang daging. Bite sized snacks that don't require an adventurous palate are: You tiao, kopi-C/teh-C, onde onde, vadai, kueh dardar, pulut hitam, curry puff, tang yuan, putu mayam, apam balik, otak-otak. Foods that might be considered more adventurous options would include: kway chap, sup tulang, century egg porridge, ayam buah keluak. We also have a national obsession with bubble (boba) tea, so try any of the multides of stores. Many foods I've listed can be found even at the touristy hawker centres like Maxwell, Newton and/or Gardens by the Bay. Google to see if they are up your alley/contain allergens :) Hope you'll enjoy our tiny island!
