The manarisu Sukiya thing isn't until he gets his nintendo switch. It's until he empties out all his points.... But people kept adding more points. 😂 So he still has to eat at Sukiya everyday
My husband eats the same meal once a day for years at a time. I cook for the family so he does get other food the rest of the day, but it's...weird. For the last four years it's been sweet n sour chicken and rice for lunch. Every frikken day. I don't know how he does it but he seems happy. This has gone on for 30 years.
I kinda did that for lunch during high school. Mom would just cook like this say sauce chicken legs for like weeks in a row and I just eat it. She got tired of making it. Like I think the mentality at the time was just eat something that I know taste good was good enough. Lunch was short I ate talk with friends then it was back to class lol. Feel like when you had that like strict of a schedule it just works. Now working having more options I can't see myself do it anymore lol.
he's doing it for free food via points on the app which give u free meals so idt so. i ate spaghetti o's every day for 26 years haha, i can see doing this but i do kno the "more full version of the story" already
5hr Haneda Stop -> Train down to Sakuragicho station (Yokohama) -> Yokohama Air cabin -> Yokohama World Porters (shopping mall)...Have a bit of a look, then walk back to station. More shops (malls) around station. Has pretty much everything, even an aqua bus that drives into the water and goes for a cruise around. Nice clear water - Isso Beach, Yakushima. Just above Okinawa, you can swim with turtles there. Has more to see and do than Okinawa imo
Fun fact about Manarisu (the Sukiya guy): Sukiya is having ikura promotion right now and he's very excited about the "Mega Ikura Bowl" P.S. Japanalysis did a video on the dude. Great vid, anything from Japanalysis is always a banger
ROFL, is Chris not aware of the meme? Admitting on video that he's chigyu... xD Not that I care of course, I also love gyudon... :P Not sure if I'd be able to eat as much as Manarisu, but few months ago I was ordering a bowl almost every week or so. Alternating between gyudon and katsudon. Had to change the diet because I'm getting old and with all the predictable health issues, but it's just such an addictive combination... xD Plus, not exactly cheap where I live. Perhaps fortunately, otherwise it'd be harder to quit. xD It's almost the price of a large (cheap) pizza, because it's quite uncommon here - but the place I order from just gets it right consistently. It's the place I'll order when not feeling adventurous. So far I've only found a handful of Japanese restaurants that offer it, and most of them try to invent and put too much stuff into it which ends up ruining the thing - the key about it is simplicity. White Japanese rice, thinly sliced meat, ginger, and that's it. Most restaurants will think it's too plain, and will try to shove a bunch of other Japanese ingredients just to make it look "more Japanese" in some imagined sophisticated manner, but that's missing the point.
Sukiya was my salvation in Sendai. A friend and I were searching the long shopping arcade near the station for somewhere to eat. We were about to settle on a McDonald's when we saw this place underneath it. The sign said 'curry' and I love Japanese curry. So we walk in and eventually order a combined gyudon and curry rice bowl, along with other things. Among the best things I ever ate in Japan.
So sad you didn't get that old film developed. I had a nice SLR camera (with film in it with pictures of me, skinny, like I've never been since,) stolen from my room when I was in graduate school at the University of London in 1990. Would've been extremely cool if it had ended up being one of Soccer Claus' cameras.
NAH GUYS if you like Tom Scott then you HAVE to watch the Technical Difficulties stuff! It's funny, witty, good old British humour that I've binged many times because it's just so good. And their new stuff is on their Technical Difficulties channel, literally uploaded a new one today 👌
Some time after I moved to northern Japan on JET, I had a local police officer knock on my door. He introduced himself, gave me a flyer with the local police station contact, and warned me about fire danger and some phone scams that were going on. My Japanese was so-so and I only got the gist, but the flyer had more info. Maybe similar for the viewer who wrote in, just checking in.
Oh so when my brother eats Chicken nuggets every day for 5 years, he's considered strange and poor, but when this guy eats a pork bowl for 5 years he's considered a marvel? Jokes aside but my brother does eat nuggets an alarming amount, I would go insane if I had to do that for a month lol
I eat a similar breakfast every day, 2 eggs in a ring of bell pepper 🫑, couple times a week I add a slice of ham or some ground beef or shredded cheese. Every morning for 4-5 years. 😎🤘🇨🇦🤘
Hearing film cameras be called "analogue cameras" is making me feel 300 years old. They're not analogue, they're not even electric*. *yes I know about electric shutters on the high end ones, and also integrated light meters, shut up
Man Pete is so bad at telling stories. First, it's Manarisu not Manerasu. Second, the challenge was, he would eat at Sukiya until the funds from the referral program runs out. So it became a battle between him and the internet. He also went viral multiple times so the fund never runs out.

Japanalysis has a good video about it if anyone wants to learn more!
I enjoyed this podcast everyday for 5 years, and I lost weight! Not really. But loved it just the same. Cheers!

For better and more accurate info on the Sukiya guy, watch the video from Japanalysis. He also interviewed the guy. All of his content is great.
Yoshinoya HANDS DOWN! That karaage is great with a gyudon.
My autism allows me to eat pretty much ANYTHING I fancy for days on end. That Sukiya fella must be one of us.

Chris you've talked about the Sukiya guy a couple of times, you know this.
Reminds me of that Bic Mac guy.
Are there Irish pubs in Japan?
Hi also from the Gold Coast Queensland Australia.
Is this video about Chris and Famichiki?
Oh so when my brother eats Chicken nuggets every day for 5 years, he's considered strange and poor, but when this guy eats a pork bowl for 5 years he's considered a marvel?

I spent a month just eating 'noodle slop' and it damn near drove me mental, couldn't imagine doing it for 1800 days!
Do you know the story of Nobuko “Cherry” Sakuramoto, the first war bridge who came to Australia with her husband Gordon Parker.
People need to try Katsuya, its the best.
I would think the restaurant would have been closed at least briefly during Covid

The sukiya (Manarisu) story was covered also by Japanalysis : ua-cam.com/video/qMex9K2HCuY/v-deo.html

UA-cam channel Japanesecooking101 has a great gyudon recipe. Learn to make it at home!
